  1. Another reason to get rid of some of these lower-level bowl games. All they do is suck up precious resources and reward teams for 6-6 records. The FBS playoff can't come soon enough; that will make loads and loads of cash.
  2. The evidence you cited proves that FBS is a bad idea for most schools.
  3. Or maybe they promised him the moon, like they always do. I hope it works out for him, but a lot of kids get burned by the CHL and their over-the-top promises of NHL success.
  4. The State of Pennsylvania is suing the NCAA over using the $60 million Penn State fine outside of the state. Pennsylvania's congressional delegation thinks it should be used within the state: http://www.usatoday....-state/1802947/ What say you legal minds?
  5. I think that was on purpose. Sometimes, the loudest voice in the room gets the attention.
  6. March 1st, 2009. One of the top 10 greatest games in REA history.
  7. He did UND games back in the early to mid 1990's. The road game at Northern Colorado in 1994 was just awful for UND; it was our last loss before we made that magical run to the national semifinals. Clay Wagner kept throwing incompletions and Scott Miller kept saying "In and out of the hands", "In and out of the hands", "In and out of the hands". Then he said "I don't want to make it sound like these passes are being dropped." What else are people listening going to think? I honestly felt like reaching thru the radio, grabbing him by the collar and telling him to knock it off. The Bison are stuck with him now and they can keep him.
  8. I think the championship will be between one of the 1980's-era Blackhawk logo designs and one of the 2000's-era REA logo designs. It will be old school fans vs. new school fans. That will tell us the age group of the people that frequent this forum and Big A HG's web page.
  9. I cannot WAIT until these two teams lock horns again!!! And I hope it's in the playoffs, so UND can make Scott Miller say "My, Oh, My" for totally different reasons.
  10. Please tell me you don't really believe that the National Past-Its-Time is more popular than the NFL by a 4 to 1 margin?!?! If you believe that, I have a ski resort in Cancun, Mexico I would like to sell you. The NFL is the sports juggernaut of the television era. And saying that a 10 to 1 edge in total number of games is a "surface answer" is insane. It's one of the biggest reasons why the National Past-Its-Time has more people attending games. In a lot of markets, they also have cheap ticket deals for families because that is what they have to do to put butts in the seats. Meanwhile, NFL games are really expensive to go to for a reason; the demand is higher because people love the product, which means it prices some people out of the market, so they watch the games on television. There is a reason the Super Bowl gets mega-ratings every year and the World Series gets crap ratings unless there are two big market teams in it. As for getting rid of FCS, that is not going to happen. Football is much different than basketball. If you have one superstar in basketball, you can build a championship team around that player. But football is a numbers game. If you don't have the numbers, if you don't have the depth, you will get killed. Putting everyone at FBS would be comical; 80% of the teams wouldn't be competitive with the top 20% and I am being charitable about that number. There is a reason we have four different divisions for football (DI FBS, DI FCS, DII, DIII): common sense.
  11. Vikings win 37-34. AP finishes 9 yards short of the record. AP does join the exclusive club of running backs that have rushed for 2,000+ in a season and the Vikings join the playoff field!!! Skol Vikings!!!
  12. This is a big shot in the arm for the women's team!!!
  13. FWIW, I hope UND NEVER moves up to FBS. It is a gigantic pot of fool's gold at the end of a bright, colorful rainbow. It looks good from a distance. And once you get your hands on it, it is pretty to look at. But once the novelty wears off, everyone will realize how worthless it really is. And I really get tired of hearing how much noteriety teams get for playing in some of these bottom of the barrel bowl games. Honestly, I think you could walk up and get tickets to some of them because nobody cares except for the fans of the teams involved and the families of the players on the teams. That is it. And those are the type of games UND would have trouble getting to on a regular basis (once every five years at best). That means we could look forward to a lot of losing records, blowout losses to the upper-end schools and the occasional conference title. The cost far exceeds the benefits (assuming there are any). We should just stick with FCS and wait for the restructuring. Then we can make intelligent choices about the future.
  14. You shouldn't make crap up to make a point, Mr. "passit_offthegoalie". I have never said that any accomplishments besides NCAA titles are worthless. I go to the Final Five every year and it's a big deal every time we win it because there is so much talent there every year. It's also a bonus to shut up and tick off all the Rodent fan faithful, who always act like it's the GIT (Gopher Invitational Tournament). The point I have always stuck with is that NCAA titles have become less of a priority for a good chunk of the fan base over the past 10 years or so. It used to be a major point of emphasis; now, the general attitude is "well, it would be nice to win one again, but if we don't, oh well, it's not that big of a deal". And if you think that is setting too high of a standard, then I guess Cary Eades should learn to be more "realistic" and "sensible" in expectations for a program and what makes a program truly "great". If that's what you think, you are entitled to it. But I guess I am just too old-school to think anything different.
  15. I am so sick and tired of losing to Team Putin (Russia) in this tournament. Heck, we have more success against Canada than we do the Russians. I think part of it is we are more familiar with the players Canada has on their team because they are so well-known from playing in North American leagues (NCAA, CHL, AHL, NHL, ect). Whatever the reason, I hate losing to those no-class jerks. I loved it when Sweden beat them for the gold in 2012.
  16. You are forgetting that in the world of Bisondom, the MVC is the greatest conference in the history of FCS conferences. That means that no team in that conference is capable of having a truly "down year" because they are all awesome compared to whatever anyone else has. But for the rest of us, yeah, UNI had a down year compared to what they usually have.
  17. You are ignoring the fact that we were a transition team from 2008 to 2011. Of course it's hard to get recruits during that time. But maybe you are right. After all, the BISON get every single player they have ever wanted, right? I guess if you can ignore what happened from 1993-2003, when both programs were on the same footing, you can make yourself believe that. The playing field will be level at some point in the future and we'll get all the weapons we need to win and win big. And FU isn't going to like what happens then.
  18. I have stated over and over that I think a couple of more years is needed to determine if Mussman and company has the program on the right direction. After that, I think we'll know if all these recruiting "chest bumps" are warrented.
  19. Gross exaggerations, that's what you come back with? Okay, whatever.
  20. Questionning whether a particular individual is the long-term solution is not "calling for people's jobs and livelihoods in.....a cavalier manner". It is looking out for the long-term health and vitality of the program. No matter what we all do for a living, we are always under some kind of informal evaluation process. I don't mean the formal evals we get on a 6 and/or 12 month basis, but the day-to-day, week-to-week type of evaluation as we do our jobs. For Mussman and his staff, that means people watching and/or listening to games, tracking the progress of recruits and how they are producing and/or not producing, seeing how the team responds to adversity and setbacks, how competitive the team is against certain programs in certain situations and so on. While this is not the NFL, these coaches are paid professionals and should be able to handle criticism that inevitably comes from the fans, the media, the boosters, ect. They know this goes with the territory of being a coach at the college level and I don't think they take it personally. Why some people on here take it personally, I don't know. By the way, comparing our jobs to college coaches is pure apples and oranges. The point some people on here don't get is that what happens now will affect what happens with the program in the future. There is a big picture that not everyone is seeing. If we dig a huge hole for the program and it has to be rebuilt piece by piece, get ready for a repeat of the late 80's to early 90's as Roger Thomas and his staff struggled to build a contender with a national power just 80 miles away. It wasn't fun and I don't want to relive it if it can be helped. And there are some serious, fair questions as to whether this program is in the right hands. I think it will take a couple of more years to find out. But I must say I have some nagging doubts as to whether this staff will get it done. And if you don't think this is the proper forum to talk about this, go talk to the mods and get it banned from here. Otherwise, stop scolding and preaching to the rest of us.
  21. What I want to hear is higher expectations for our football program. People have been dialing down their hopes and expectations for the program for several years now. There are some serious questions concerning the week to week competitiveness of the program. When this team suffers a 40 point drubbing at Montana State and didn't look competitive at all, it is going to bother people. Losing is part of the process of building the program; not being competitive at all in games is a red flag. As I have said before, I think Mussman should get a couple of more years to recruit as a Big Sky program. It could make all the difference. But after that, is everyone on here going to stick with the same talking points about "patience", "transition", ect? That is what concerns me. If there is lack of expectations with the fan base and the boosters, there will be less urgency within the athletic department to change things. We moved up in large part for football. If we sink back to the level of the mid-1980's, it will be all for naught. And if you don't like my posts, just ignore them. Don't run around here acting like the "conscience of SS.com".
  22. Based on the ducky and bunny BS I am reading on here, we should just join the non-scholarship Pioneer League for football. Then we won't have to worry about getting to the playoffs and winning national titles anymore. Maybe we'll develop a kick-butt rivalry wtih Valparaiso. THAT will get the Alerus Center rocking (not). If this was men's hockey, the tone of the conversation would be much, much different. Flame away, but those are the facts.
  23. I never said it wasn't. But besides Men's BB, what else is the Scummit good at? There is a reason why the Scummit is referring to schools by the cities in which they are located; nobody could figure out where these schools were. You don't see other conferences resorting to that.
  24. Amen. Thank you for stating what most of us are thinking.
