We should just call him "Coach Stand Pat". Seriously though, back in the early 1990's, we had a head coach (won't say who it is, just that he has an Italian last name) who was stubbornly attached to a certain coaching and recruiting philosophy that just didn't work anymore. And we all know how that movie ends. Not saying it's going to happen again, but it's worth remembering the past, because with human beings it has a nasty habit of repeating itself.

I think he is taking a shot at Jayson for whatever reason. Just ignore him. -
Samsung is one of the best brands out there. Me and my wife have two Samsungs and they are fantastic. Sony is good, too.

Thank you for showing your face on here and answering questions and taking all the slings and arrows that come with it. I think the quality of the product will improve as time goes on. Remember, FSSN wasn't the greatest when they first started and they had WDAZ broadcasters and staff to lean on. Midco is starting from scratch and there are bound to be problems at first. But in the long run, this partnership will benefit both UND and Midco. Patience people, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater too soon. -
It probably worked out for the best. I think the competitive pressures to perform and win and win and win would have killed her in the long-run. I honestly don't know if swimming in college would have prevented the eating disorder or not. She made the right decision to retire and move on with her life. Good luck to her.

Me and my wife have a cat. She is declawed in the front and never leaves the house. Letting your cat run around outside is irresponsible and causes a lot of problems for a lot of people. It's also not good for the kitty; they can get run over, attacked by predators, get diseases from other animals, ect. Some people in our neighborhood last summer let their cats run around and they would come up to the windows of our townhouse and look in, which drove my cat crazy. I had to go outside at 5am and chase them away. Thankfully, the winter cold has put a stop to that (until it warms up, that is). Bottom Line: Don't let your cat (or dog) run around outside without a leash and listen to Bob Barker and spay or neuter your pets. Our animal shelters are crowded enough as it is.

Okay, I watched the press conference and he DID answer the question. But I still don't like the snide remark about "message boards". A lot of our biggest fans post on here and other places. We aren't all trolls and misfits. Message boards are the watercooler of the information age and the coaches better get used to them being around.

Okay, I will have to check it out.

This is what I don't like about Hakstol; he pulls a Jim Boeheim whenever he gets a question he doesn't like. If the question can't be answered with one of his patented boilerplate coachspeak comments, he moves on to the next one. I don't even listen to the Wednesday night coaches show anymore because it's the same tired old crap over and over and over. If you have heard one Hakstol interview, you've heard them all.
-
I have to give Schlossman credit on this one; he put that Rodent sucking troll Hammy in his place (and on GPL!). I had some run-ins with Hammy during the old USCHO Message Board era and he is a handful. He is Minnesota's version of JBB (whom I've also gone back and forth with on a number of forums).

This is what I noticed as well (I was there, in the upper deck, great view of everything). This isn't high school; you aren't going to score a lot of goals from the outside. But it's just easier for a lot of people to drag out the "hot goalie" excuse (and yes, Schlossman, I am talking to YOU again). It makes people feel better about a bad result, but it doesn't do our program any good. Duluth (and I was very happy for them, btw) got it done and we didn't and that is all people are going to remember. We used to excel as a program getting it done when we had a team capable of getting it done; now we don't. And that is what people are frustrated about. I don't expect an NCAA title "every other year" (that is asking WAY too much), but maybe one out of every four trips to the Frozen Four should result in another green banner being raised to the rafters of REA. In closing, I do not support a coaching change. But I think it is 100% acceptable and fair to criticize the coaching staff when they don't make adjustments during the game and/or the team repeatedly comes out flat for big games on big stages. At some point, this needs to change. That is all I am saying about it right now. GO SIOUX!!!

I have been thinking the same thing for some time, MafiaMan. I LOVED that 1997 team. That team had the best chemistry of any sports team I have ever watched. Their hard-working, never-say-die attitude. The passion and emotion inside the Old REA for every home game (really, for the first time in about 10 years). And most of those kids stuck around for 3-4 years and we won two NCAA titles and a bunch of WCHA gold. I was a student in the old student section for those years and it was pure bliss. And yes, we are on the same side. Sorry if I got a little snippy with you. I am just so PO'ed after last night and I haven't had my breakfast yet! LET'S GO SIOUX!!!

Watch out, we aren't supposed to talk about him anymore!
-
"not a good game by the Sioux last night".....holy understatement Batman!!! If you think "just being there every year" is good enough and expecting anything else is just asking too much, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. But don't expect everyone else to act like sheep and go along for the ride. I am very proud of the Final Five titles we have won (I go there every freaking year, thank you very much) . But, like I've said before, we can win all the league titles we want and we can send all the players to the NHL we want, but unless we start winning NCAA titles on a consistent basis again, we will start losing prestige and standing nationwide. Recruiting and media exposure are becoming more national (and even international in some cases) and a lack of national success will hurt us sooner or later. A lot of kids alive today don't even remember our last NCAA title (2000), they were too young or weren't even born yet! But we aren't supposed to talk about that here because "In Hak We Trust", "We have to wait for Jerry York to retire", "There are too many 'hot goalies' out there", "We have the greatest arena in the world; thus, we shouldn't complain about anything", "We get to watch former UND players in the NHL on NHL Center Ice, so life is good", blah, blah, blah!!! And God help anyone that challenges this mentality. Well, I will, I did, and I don't apologize for it. What happened last night was much worse than "not a good game". It was totally and completely unacceptable for a program like ours. And this will come as a total shock to the "In Hak We Trust" crowd, but this was on the coaches. It is their job to get this team ready to play night in and night out. That doesn't mean they won't have a down night from time to time (everybody does), but it means last night should NEVER happen. Ever. This is a microcosm of what is wrong with this program under Hak and Company. Great arena to play in and show off to the recruits and fans, great talent year after year.....but unable to fulfill the full potential of the talent available almost every year. Hak gets a six-figure salary to run this program and has all the bells and whistles and pure, God-given talent you could hope to have.....and yet our full potential as a top-notch program remains unfulfilled under Hak's leadership. And I believe it is totally and completely fair to point this out and call it out for what it is. I am NOT calling for a coaching change at this time. I WANT Hakstol and his staff to succeed. But Hakstol is on pace to end his coaching career just like Doug Woog at Minnesota. Great talent, great facilities........but severely unfulfilled potential. End rant, see you guys tonight. LET'S GO SIOUX!!!!
-
This is what I have been trying to tell people for several years, but all I get is the same tired old "In Hak We Trust......or you aren't a real fan" BS. It's time to get back to the winning attitude that this program made famous. And if that counts as "living in the past", then so be it.

I have seen it, it's pretty good.

And in other news...........the sun came up in the east this morning.

I think he is talking about the voting contest being a waste of time with regard to the outcome of the Hobey Baker voting process. The home crowd does a good job of showing their appreciation to the players at every home game by packing an 11,500 seat arena in the dead of winter in the middle of the frozen tundra of the Red River Valley.

I think they secretly care more about this than maintaining the rivalry with us. We should call it "The DQ Cup Rule"!

FAN VOTE: Greatest Sioux Jersey Ever Tournament!
fightingsioux4life replied to Big A HG's topic in Men's Hockey
I personally think those Nike Black Swift jerseys are overrated, so I voted against it in the final. Still cannot believe that the 1987 white jersey didn't make the final. -
If Panzer had played for Boston College or (and yes, I am going to say it) Minnesota, he would have been handed the Hobey on a silver platter. Forwards with big numbers almost always win the award.* Especially if they are seniors with a proven track record of putting up big numbers against solid competition week after week, year after year.** And goaltenders definitely shouldn't win it if they benefit from a trapping, defense-first system.*** And like a couple of others have already said on here, shoo, scram. *unless they are from a smaller school **unless they are from North Dakota ***unless they need an excuse not to give it to a forward from a smaller school and a forward from North Dakota had all the traditional qualifications to win it.

Generally, Hockey East teams that are in major media markets and/or have affiliation in prominent Division I conferences for their other sports have a statistically better chance of having a Hobey winner than a North Dakota or a Clarkson. Duluth has been an outlier to that over the years, I will agree with you there. I think after the Great Panzer Train Robbery in 2001, there was an uptick in non-big time schools having Hobey winners (Denver, Colorado College, Duluth, ect). I think there was a real backlash from people after that and I think it had an impact on how the award was given out. But I still can't get too excited about it. I care more about team championships (NCAA and otherwise).

NORTH DAKOTA @ MINNESOTA - Saturday, one last dance....
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
But first we would need something to take its place. Maybe a joint U.S./Canadian Association of some kind with schools from both sides of the border? Anything but the corrupt, greedy den of thieves we have right now. -

USCHO used to have a smaller, more intimate forum where real die-hard fans used to hang out. But when they started that whole "Vote for Hobey" thing, it increased the number of people that had access to the forum. Now it's dominated by a bunch of attention-seeking sloths who know next-to-nothing about college hockey. It is a shame what has happened to it. -
I guess I haven't cared all that much about the Hobey since Panzer was robbed in 2001. Of course I was happy for Ryan Duncan winning it in 2007 and I'll be happy if Corban Knight wins it this year. But I just don't get as excited about it like I used to. I think they should have a national award for each position (forward, defense, goalie) and not a political award decided by where you go to school and if that school is loved by the national media. Back to regularly-scheduled Hobey campaigning.
