College Hockey 2012/13 (non UND Hockey)
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
This thread is more off-track than Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDTT-gFprC4 -
I honestly wonder if they will even have content I am interested in watching? And if they can survive alongside ESPN?

After what we have had to put up with over the past 5 seasons or so, it is a relief that season tickets aren't in the 2,000-3,000 range.

College Hockey 2012/13 (non UND Hockey)
fightingsioux4life replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
The AD announced the punishments; I don't know if he was the one that pulled the trigger on them or not. Usually it's the head coach of the program that doles out the punishments and sanctions. I can't imagine Blais tolerating that level of micromanaging. -

And thus the biggest difference between Blais and Hakstol (besides the NCAA titles). -
For my money, Denver has anything in North Dakota, South Dakota or Minnesota beat for quality of life, amenities and "things to do". Putting that aside, I think we have a pretty good life in the Red River Valley of the North (Grand Forks, Fargo and every point in between).

That has been my solution all along. Go to 10 minutes and 4x4. That will eliminate a lot of the regulation ties and it shouldn't tire out the players too much. And it will help discourage the concept of playing for the tie with the trap. I hate it when teams do that.
-
So if somebody jumps off a bridge, we are all supposed to just follow their lead? Sorry, I just have never liked that logic. The shootout takes a team game and turns it into a skills competition. What's next, using a slam-dunk contest in basketball to settle ties?

This is a dark day for the sport of hockey. God help us if they start talking about using them in the playoffs.

Good point. When Ag Tech moved up about 10 years ago, they claimed not to care about those Division II titles anymore. "We don't want any more titles that have Division II on them" was a common refrain from the Ag Tech faithful. I am surprised they didn't take down all those Division II banners from the roof of the Fargodump and stuff them into a storage unit someplace. Now they bring it up all the time. I suppose they'll start talking about all their national club hockey championships next, even though they probably had the local YMCA team on the schedule most years.
-
I sure as heck don't count them. And for those who would claim that I would have a different perspective if UND had won one of those beauty contests, the answer to that is absolutely not. Any title not won on the field of play is not a title. Period.

NHL expanding to Seattle in 2014?
fightingsioux4life replied to MafiaMan's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Fetch is hanging on to this notion that REA should attract an AHL franchise and give UND the boot because of the demise of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. I would have hoped he would have dropped that stupid idea by now, but I guess he hasn't. -
Paging Mr. Hajdu-NCHC Tourney Tickets

As long as you agreed to sit where you were told. No thanks, I will take my chances with picking my own section and seat. -
The atmosphere was awesome. I cannot wait for us to get back to that.

Not going to give up on that, are you? -
Curse of the old Ralph finally gone?

Be careful. You'll be accused of focusing too much on NCAA titles. -
A Photo Tribute to the Old Ralph

Not quite, that area is fenced off. I think they were standing just to the north of where East Hall was (which was demolished after my freshman year at UND). I was there watching some of the demolition today. Bittersweet.......bitter because we are losing an iconic building; sweet because of the state-of-the-art IPF that will come of it. -
Portland State - New Facility for Basketball
fightingsioux4life replied to FSSD's topic in Men's Basketball
Don't need it. Remember, we have "The Ralph"! Unless we are playing Duke or North Carolina at home (never gonna happen), we won't fill the main arena for basketball. Which is why all of our regular season basketball games should be played in The Betty. Great atmosphere, great sightlines, a good home court advantage for our teams. If our programs ever outgrow it, we can talk about building a stand-alone basketball facility. Right now, I think the IPF is sucking all the air out of the room. -

The fact that he made a committment and then reneged on that committment is what has some people ticked off. If you aren't a man of your word, why should anybody trust you? -
But according to Don Cherry and the rest of the CHL shills, anybody playing NCAA hockey just isn't any good. Maybe games like this on Canadian soil will help cut through all the garbage that kids north of the border are fed on a regular basis.

That sounds a lot like what Qwest (now CenturyLink) used to do when I had problems with their phone service. Everything was always "your fault" and "you aren't guaranteed anything" and all this other garbage. That is one of the main reasons I switched to Midco phone service almost a decade ago and haven't regretted it once.

I think there is a clause in the agreement that says UND cannot remain without a nickname of some kind.
-
Not an option in the agreement with the NC$$.
-
That only lasted a couple of years (thank God).
