2016-2017 College Hockey (Non UND Hockey)
fightingsioux4life replied to cberkas's topic in Men's Hockey
Would the B1G want to "contaminate" the "gene pool" as it were? They set this up to be an elite, exclusive club (trying not to snicker when I type that) and letting "outsiders" in would change that. -
2016-2017 College Hockey (Non UND Hockey)
fightingsioux4life replied to cberkas's topic in Men's Hockey
I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that. We play them every year in an exhibition game. They are close. They undoubtedly would strive to build an elite program that would contend for championships. It would also further expose Canada to NCAA hockey, which may result in more and better recruits from north of the border. -
If Big Ten Offers UND Should They Join?

If the financial terms are up to snuff. We cannot afford to get screwed in any arrangement with the B1G. Otherwise, they can go pound sand.....well, you know where. -

All of the above. #heymichiganobjectsinthemirrorarecloserthantheyappear -
The bolded part above is why I will never apologize for UND having a regional in Fargo.

No need to apologize. Quality is Job 1 at the University of North Dakota.

Thank you Nashville!

Defenses like the Broncos last year, the Ravens in 2000 and the Bears in 1985 only come around once in a great while. Most of the time, you need great QB play or you won't win jack squat in the NFL. Even the Giants needed good QB play from Phil Simms in the 1980's. Whether Wentz can deliver that for the Eagles remains to be seen, but I don't think Bradford was going to deliver what they needed at the QB position, so I don't blame them for trading up.

The 2016 NFL Draft kicks off tonight with the 1st round. I think Carson Wentz will end up in Philadelphia, which is a whole lot better than the Rams or the Browns. Expect the Vikings to wheel and deal like they always do. Any other thoughts and/or predictions?

If Big Ten Offers UND Should They Join?

This sounds like the #ButtRPI argument that Bison fans make with regard to the Slummit. There are a lot of other variables besides PWR. -

That is amazing. Gopher fans must be masochists. -

Well, according to some of them, all they care about is the B1G and Wisconsin. Seriously, I agree with you 100%. This will be the hottest ticket for that program in awhile. -

Everyone is so focused on hanging #8 and the budget crisis that some things are slipping through the cracks. -
2016 IIHF U18 World Championship
fightingsioux4life replied to fight on sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I think most of the players on Team Canada cashed it in after losing in the semifinals. Their thinking is Gold or nothing, so they didn't feel motivated to win the Bronze. -

It is always ugly when the two bullies of North America square off. -
I am not obsessed with NDSU. But I am glad that we are getting some positive press coverage for once and all the attention isn't on the Bison like it has been for several years. And they cannot stand that. Which makes hanging #8 all the more sweet. Of course, the real fun will be when we beat them in the FCS playoffs. Heads will definitely explode in Fargo if that happens.

Exaggeration? Well, I wouldn't argue with people that actually live down there 24/7/365, but to each their own.

My girlfriend visited from Brainerd last weekend and we watched most of the first season of The Sopranos. So I guess we can blame it on that!
-
Why can't we do both? Is this yet another false choice being offered up by our fan base? If you want to be nice and conciliatory to them, then go right on ahead. But I was raised a fan of the Fighting Sioux and my blood runs Kelly Green and White and that means NDSU is persona non grata. Capisce?

I have had friends who live in Fargo basically say the same thing I am saying. The hyperbole is off the charts down there. It isn't just "one fan".

2016 IIHF U 18 World Championships Open Thread
fightingsioux4life replied to MDtoGF's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Part of the problem is that the U20 tournament is smack dab in the middle of hockey season (late December to early January) and people's minds were on hockey. It was over the holidays, so people were taking time off from work and schools were not in session. So you had a lot of people who could go and watch these games. The U18 tournament is in April. People are starting to focus on spring and summer activities (golf, fishing, biking, etc.). The NHL playoffs are on television, so people are staying home and watching that. Also, the Canadians don't care as much for the U18 tournament as the U20 tournament; the U20 in Canada is like the Super Bowl is in the United States. The reason it looked better in Fargo in 2009 was that Scheels is less than half the size of REA, so even if REA has drawn more people, it doesn't look like it because of how huge REA is. If we ever hosted the U20 again, I think it would be as successful as it was in 2005 because of what time of year it is held. -
If UND won 5 consecutive FCS football titles, I wouldn't be writing letters to Sports Illustrated complaining that Alabama was on the cover instead of UND. That is what one Bison fan did this year. That is how delusional they are in Imperial Cass County. And that is why hanging #8 is so sweet. For the first time in a long time, the positive press is not focused on Fargo and NDSU.
