Really? If this were the case, it wouldn't have taken 10+ years to finish the renovations to the BSA.
-
Can't argue with that too much.
-
If you mean football is the undisputed #2 sport on campus and in town, I agree with you. But we still need to make our basketball programs the best they can be. A trip to March Madness would be a huge publicity coup for the entire university.

Okay Mr. Solutions, explain why a school that is very similar to UND in many aspects, is a part of the NDUS, and which is facing the same budgetary issues UND is much more successful than UND at getting Division I teams to come to town. That is what I meant by "explaining away". The whole Fargo Megalopolis argument doesn't hold water with me; it's one freaking hour away via Interstate. Grand Forks isn't Barrow, Alaska. At least you didn't use the "Grand Forks is too cold during the winter" argument that some people have used on here. Partnering with NDSU is a good idea, but with their current leadership and their attitude towards UND, I don't think that will happen. But considering that their President is likely on his way out the door, that could change soon. Finally, our poor attendance won't get better until the team performs more consistently over the course of a season. People are taking a wait and see attitude toward the team (like with football). I do hope Jones can have a big year and get this program to the next level.

Exactly, you simply cannot explain this away.

This message was sent via e-mail to the UND community several minutes ago. I have bolded some key passages: Could this spell the end of swimming and diving? Are our teams going to have the resources needed to compete? Thoughts anyone?

University of North Dakota Hockey 2016 - 2017 Season

Credit for what? For barely winning a watered-down B1G Conference? And what happened in 2014 has little bearing on what is happening today. The Gopher program is clearly suffering by being in a garbage league with garbage opponents. Not that there's anything wrong with that! -
Dan Marino?

Never is a very long time, my friend.
-
I would point to the early 2000's as an example of how Bison football is not immune to the occasional down periods. UND hockey was down in the early 1990's. And in both cases, changes were made at the top.

Nothing lasts forever. Just look at the Atlanta Braves in MLB.
-
Never saw this coming. But knowing this team, they'll slide back to being bad before long.

Maybe this coach should have applied for the Army coaching job? Or VMI? The kind of athletes Texas will recruit and sign are athletes who usually are holding multiple scholarship offers in their hands. If you go all boot camp like this, you risk losing athletes to rival schools. And in FBS, if you don't win, at some point you will be fired. Having a bunch of 4.0 GPA's or community service work will not prevent that from happening.
-
But don't you understand? NDSU is a big-time intercollegiate sports campus now! They are now in the same league as Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon and USC! I'd like them to schedule a football game vs. Alabama so they can get a painful reminder of just how small-time they really are outside of our region.

Are you saying you can get NBC programming that our local affiliate is not carrying? Please tell us more.
-
That is the point I was making earlier. We don't know until we all know.
-
Good point. But I will believe Grady is done for good when I hear it from Bubba himself.
-
Thus my question "What the heck do you know?". I get tired of these rumors being spread on this discussion forum without any idea where the info came from.
-
What the heck do you know? Don't make comments if you can't or won't back them up.

Are you living in the 20th century? Social media is a big-time thing in our society and lots of people get their news and information from social media platforms. Cutting access to social media is a bad idea, along with this entire policy.
-
I give up. You are convinced that less exposure is somehow better. I am calling bullcrap on that.
-
So you don't care what kind of coverage our teams get? That is really short-sighted, just like this asinine policy from FU. And no, it was not "inevitable", it is the product of bloated, oversized egos at a mid-major Division I institution which is acting like they are already in the Big 12 and are the center of the collegiate sports universe (neither of those things are true). Limiting exposure of your product is just plain stupid and it alienates your biggest boosters and most loyal fans; two groups any university dares not alienate. Except for FU of course. I should be enjoying this, but I am not, because it could happen in Grand Forks too. What if coverage of UND hockey was limited to the holders of the broadcast rights and everyone else was banned? Does that sound like a good idea to you? Is it "inevitable"? I say no.
-
If you think this is such a great idea, why don't you write Kennedy and Faison and suggest they do this in Grand Forks as well?
