I love both of them, but you are not wrong.

How many players will jump into the portal who know their chances at playing time will be low in 2026 and beyond? With a new coaching staff and new recruits coming to campus, it could push some guys out.

Why do they deserve special treatment? What makes them more or less important than the other blue bloods? This is one of the reasons why people don't like Notre Dame. They think the whole world revolves around them and it doesn't. What's next, guaranteeing them a playoff spot if they have a winning record? Or maybe guaranteeing them a bowl game regardless of their record? Or maybe I shouldn't be giving anyone any ideas?

But...but...but....TRADITION!!!!!!

The P4 would probably want to ban all G6 schools from being eligible for the playoff at all. That ain't happening either. Nor should it. Notre Dame probably thinks they should get special treatment like they did in the Bowl Coalition/Bowl Alliance/BCS era. That ain't happening either. Nor should it. People will probably continue to pretend that Ohio and Ohio State belong in the same subdivision. But that doesn't make it true. If the P4 doesn't like G6 schools crashing "their" party, they should just do what they have threatened to do for several years: Set up their own subdivision. Until then, stop the griping.

There are always some horribly managed programs in every sport. Unfortunately, we've had some extensive experience in that department since moving up to Division I.

I guess I just don't like the idea of watering it down too much. 24 just feels like some of the crazy expansion ideas for March Madness.

24 is a little too large. 16 is a nice round number. I think there are nine conferences in FBS (PAC 12 is gone?). Seven at-large bids is more than enough.

Basketball is a much different sport. In basketball, you can build a good team around one or two guys. In football, you have to have good players at more than just one or two positions. This ensures that larger schools with larger budgets will always be light years ahead of everyone else. There is zero need for subdivisions in basketball. There is a definite need for it in football. The manifesto you shared is very interesting and might very well work. But the status quo is not sustainable in the long run and needs to change.

Either give the G5 auto-bids or subdivide FBS into two separate divisions (P4 and G5). Those are the two most viable options.

In light of the inclusion of two G5 teams to the CFP on Sunday (James Madison, Tulane) and the outrage of excluding Notre Dame, I have a pretty simple fix. -Expand the field to 16 teams. -Every conference gets one autobid. All other spots are at-large bids. -Seed teams according to the CFP committee rankings 1-16. -Top 8 teams host bottom 8 teams. -No more byes for anyone. everyone has to win four games to win the title. If we aren't willing to do this, we should just subdivide FBS (P4 and G5) and be done with it. It is lunacy to continue pretending that Ohio is at the same level as Ohio State.

Notre Dame's "beef" is that they have a sense of entitlement and are used to getting what they want. That changed on Sunday and now they are complaining loudly about it. The entire collegiate sports world does NOT revolve around the almighty Fighting Irish. Along with NDSU-CKS losing, this was the best part of my weekend.

When is our next FBS money game?

Kind of like Brewster did at the end.

Playoffs Second Round 12/6/25: UND @ Tarleton State

I will be disappointed if Schmidt doesn't give the offense a total top to bottom makeover. But I have a feeling he will do just that. Schmidt has shown that accountability will matter with him in charge. -
Back to living in the past again! Karma is a b!tch that always has the last laugh. And you and your ilk have just gotten a big steaming plate of it served to you. Please go back to Bisonville and finish eating it. MY, OH, MY!!!!!

I think we'll have an open QB competition in spring and fall.
-
I think Schmidt knows the offense needs a lot of work and I think we'll see a total overhaul from top to bottom.

Couldn't agree with you more.

So you are calling for Schmidt's head less than one year in? Go take a pill and lie down. -

I have never liked the play calling this season, whether we win or lose. It just didn't cost us sometimes.
