This bait and switch crap is unacceptable. They promise these kids that they'll pay for their college education if they choose them over the NCAA and when it is time to make good on it, the kids are told "Well, it just doesn't work that way here". This is the best argument for the NCAA over CHL.

I was being sarcastic; thus the roll-eyes emoticon at the end of it. I posted that because some time ago, people were talking about Pat Sweeney taking over for Dan Hammer when Hammer left MidcoSN, and a few posters said Sweeney wouldn't work because "he isn't good enough at sales". I was mocking that perspective.

According to some people on here, all that matters is if he is good at sales. So I suppose they could just pull someone out of the sales department, put him in front of the mic and tell him he doesn't have to know anything about hockey because the color guy will take care of that for him (sarcasm).

You can say the same thing about WBB and FB. But the hockey-only crowd will accuse you of "trashing our #1 sport". (sarcasm)

In that case, let's just make KEM the President and Jody Hodgson the Athletic Director. Then we can proceed to move FB to the Pioneer League to save money and continue ignoring MBB and WBB, because they don't really count anyway (sarcasm). Anyone who thinks things are "just fine" with UND athletics is kidding themselves.

Ralph donated the arena to benefit UND and UND athletics.....NOT to make money for himself. The problem is, he is dead and his entitled only child is trying to screw UND over any way she can.

This sounds like a clear and concise argument to move back down to Division II. No thanks.

This inane idea that each program should have to sustain itself with its own revenues has to die. It is NOT how intercollegiate athletics works and it likely never will work that way. And this approach will assure that we will continue to wallow in mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Just sayin'.......

Well said, my friend. Thank you for saying it so articulately. I let my emotions take over on this issue and it doesn't come out right. We need to think outside the box when it comes to athletics fundraising. We need to get creative when it comes to raising money for FB, MBB, WBB and all the other sports we have not cut. And yes, that means "spending other people's money", but it will be money that those people VOLUNTARILY gave to UND athletics to make us stronger as a program. That is how intercollegiate athletics is funded today. If people have a problem with that, then they should rethink their own support for these programs. The Athletic Department, the Alumni Association and others should get together and figure out how to do this. Otherwise, we should just move back down to D-II and the NSIC. PS: Once September 2030 comes around, we should hire the firm that runs the Alerus Center to run REA. And make sure KEM has absolutely nothing to do with how the arena is run or who gets what sum of money each year.

This is not a totally insignificant concession. I still think REA has no business getting its grubby little hands on FB revenue, since FB doesn't play in either arena.

Where should we build KEM's throne room? Down the hall from Kennedy's office so he can run any and all decisions by her first? (sarcasm) Hope all you REA brown-nosers are happy.

Agreed 1000% That arena is one gigantic cash machine. The idea that UND is getting all there is to get simply does not make sense.

I don't think I was calling for heads in my post. I was pointing out the acceptance of mediocrity that has crept into the culture of the athletic department. Last year, with the exception of Volleyball, was dismal across the board. I am hoping Chaves doesn't give contract extensions like candy on Halloween the way Faison did. Also.......I cannot help it if facts are sometimes negative.

And you think we shouldn't feel that way about every UND sport? The minimum expectation should be to win conference titles. For MH and FB, the maximum expectations are to compete for, and win, NCAA titles. Either we shoot for the stars or we should move back down to Division II.
