of the with only 20 percent or so people voting it might show how far out of touch UND/kelly is with the alumni...looks like a strong student turnout but the alumni had a chance to step up but they didn't. and now i don't blame them and und might have lost them forever?

yes. bc if its RR v FH head to head you have the students v everyone else pretty much... rr probably wins...RR v FH v nodaks i don't like RR chances...unless some lawyers get involved.

There will need to be a run off between Nodaks and Roughriders.
President Kelly throws a curveball and adds University of North Dakota/No Nickname back into the mix
3 days prior to the vote, President Kelly will retract this option for reason best known to himself.
2 days prior to the vote President Kelly will announce he will re-consider using University of North Dakota/No Nickname on the ballot
1 day prior to the vote President Kelly will announce the run off vote will NOT includes University of North Dakota/No Nickname.
Run off vote will be split exactly 50/50
President Kelly announces that going forward the school will be known as the University of Nodak Fighting SunRider Stars. A logo has yet to be determined, but it will involve rainbows.
jk, I want Nodaks, but I think it will be Roughriders in a close one.
actually kinda close if you switch a couple names around...might be closer still after the second vote...or third vote?

Another way to look at it would be that 72% of the people didn't bother to vote since their selection was eliminated pre-vote.
i wonder if 72 percent of the people didn't vote bc they didn't trust kelly to follow thru with the process and in the end they were 100 percent correct in their assumptions...

A lot of people, especially people on this board, have Nodaks and RR number one and two and would have switched to the other one left.
I'd have voted for Nodaks vs Fighting Hawks and by the polls here a lot of people would have too.
Now I doubt any name will ever have over half the vote.

My point was the lack of participation and the closeness of the 2 vs. 3 vote and I was predicting why Kelley did that. Please look at the just added justification and see that I am right in my prediction. I do not want participation, just a real majority vote to win. Please stop degrading people, especially if they are right in their prediction.

I had posted earlier regarding the likely low voter turnout and it was pathetic, at less than 25000. That is how Fighting Hawks made the top, and any of the five would not have surprised me. To change the rules midstream does not surprise me as well, although the closeness of the 2 vs. 3 makes it hard for them to not go with three, especially since Nodaks was the 3rd.

Kelley never ceases to amaze. stick to the original plan, please! even if the one I voted for would be eliminated, keep the process honest! given the percentages, there probably won't be any name receiving 50% after this second vote. get ready for round 3. WTF.

that some people are easily swayed and influenced and that is how bad decisions lead to bad logos and nicknames...I would guess when you posted that that picture of the "cool" fighting hawk/Blackhawk/kinda fighting Sioux logo was going around?

Jayhawk State (Kansas)
Terrapin State (Maryland)

Tar Heel State (North Carolina)
Buckeye State (Ohio)
Sooner State (Oklahoma)
Coyote State (South Dakota)
Volunteer State (Tennessee)

The flagship university in every one of those states has a nickname synonymous with (one of) its state nicknames. Since North Dakota's are Flickertail State (been there, done that
), Sioux State , Peace Garden State (can't think of a way to incorporate this), or Roughrider State, it only makes sense that we would pick Roughriders as UND's next nickname. It sounds good, has great logo possibilities, would be unique among colleges and universities in the U.S., and to top it off, is one of North Dakota's state nicknames which keeps with tradition at UND and around the country.I know that many would view Red River HS having the same nickname as a drawback but there will be drawbacks no matter what nickname is chosen. As I've seen The Sicatoka mention many times on this board, we need to control what we can and voice our opinion on a new nickname soon or have something lame thrust upon us. Thoughts on Roughriders?
