Any way that Ed steps in and shuts this farce down and makes an executive decision to make UND the home of the Roughriders?

im warming to this...
lets play name that logo...hint c-usa!!

nice work siouxvolley...so it's okay to "take" the nickname from a small university somewhere in maryland but its not okay to "take" a nickname from a small high scholl in north dakota...so "fighting hawks" isn't even unique to d1...

who the hell is "mason bennett"????

So, the other universities that have "bird" nicknames are childish and/or have immature fan bases?
UND is no more privileged than:
Air Force Falcons
Ball State Cardinals
Boston College Eagles
Bowling Green Falcons
Eastern Michigan Eagles
Florida Atlantic Owls
Georgia Southern Eagles
Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
Louisville Cardinals
Miami (OH) Redhawks
Oregon Ducks
Rick Owls
South Carolina Gamecocks
Southern Miss Golden Eagles
Temple Owls
Yes, there are a lot of "bird-related" nicknames, but most of the schools have identifiable logos and, most importantly, do just fine with their athletics. UND can do just fine with marketing and promotions as the Fighting Hawks. Furthermore, UND can be successful on the field, ice, and court as the Fighting Hawks.
would you wanna be grouped with your list of schools or this list of schools?
Arkansas
Delaware
Florida
Hawaii
Indiana
Maryland
MIchigan
Minnesota
Nebraska
North Carolina
Ohio State
Oklahoma
Oregon State
Pennslyvania
South Dakota
Tennessee
Wisconsin
Wyoming

I fly to away games to support them SiouxFan97. Don't tell me I don't support them. I am entitled to my opinion.
being competitive in the d1 world is more than just ticket sales (away games don't help und btw)...merchandising can make und some decent money and hawks aint it...

The day the two tribes proved they weren't good neighbors (by not helping) was the day I realized the name and logo was gone and that I would quit wearing it.
They were done with us; I was done with them.
I really couldn't put a finger on it but I feel the same way...I haven't worn a lot of my Sioux stuff since it was dropped...I'm actually for replacing pretty much every Sioux head around campus with either a hick in overalls, a generic hawk symbol, or a cowboy on a horse when this is all said and done....

As if they no longer exist.
Beware the ennobler.
last I checked marcellus red tomahawk has been dead for quite a while but he will live on forever on our state highway signs....and what's funny is his family is HONORED!
-
You say eliminating NA nicknames pushes NA culture off the map, but you are only speaking of your own personal map.
Besides, does it seem to you like the tribes are interested in such publicity? (Hint: We failed to get their support to keep "honoring" them.)
We? You mean Grant Shaft and those losers that supposedly went in fighting to keep the name....and last I checked yes you honor people by naming roads, bridges, building, universities, scholarships, boats, and cities after them to remember them forever...

Removal of Native American mascots isn't really about wanting to forget about Native Americans. It's much more about wanting to forget about our own racism towards Native Americans.
wow...ask students right now to name the three tribes that make up the great sioux nation and most will have no clue...ask students that attended und when they were known as the sioux and you will get a lot that will give you right answer. part of the beauty of naming und after the sioux was to educate students as they passed thru und of the history of north dakota and especially the plains indians...that's gone now.
