    Nobody even knows if that's true that's just message board talk. I know Geno Crandall has voiced his opinion on Twitter against the Fighting Hawks. 

    I would say his point is that north Dakota is the roughrider state so that it shouldn't be that hard to pick a new nickname...the roughriders.

    It has the most logo potential, IMO. The logo makes or breaks this. If a top-notch, unique logo is produced, it will go over more smoothly. 

    Plus, it is representative of the state, again, IMO.

    I'm voting Fighting Hawks.

    so said the last 50 schools that adopted a bird as a mascot and logo....someone load the ______ hawk gif please!

    Got my email this morning. Will be voting Fighting Hawks again. Not that I am in  love with it, but it is the lesser of 3 evils and as I have said before not very likely that this will be a long term name for UND(none of the remaining will be). It is generic but has some good logo and mascot potential and is the only one of the 3 with any potential to garner any long term additional revenue for UND through apparel and merchandise sales which is good for UND and good for me and the company I work for.

    If Nodaks or Roughriders are chosen you will get a lukewarm at best response from the current students which will feed down to the future students and young people in the area and across the state. I believe alum will continue to buy the same merchandise and apparel available to them now and slapping the new name on an item will not motivate someone who is a Fighting Sioux alumni to purchase an item with a name on it that has no meaning to them.

    Don't like Roughriders as to me it is a "western" based name and a local high school already has the name and I have never liked the name to start with. That said, I could live with the name but would rather not.

    Nodaks is terrible unless we are planning on going D3, moving Twamley to East Grand Forks and joining the MIAC.

    im pretty sure that a large majority of the 400 collegiate teams named _____ hawks are d2, d3, or naia...

    zero teams named nodaks or roughriders

    Voting starts tomorrow. This needs to be said:

    The idea of North Dakota adopting the official nickname "Fighting Hawks" is both completely illogical and totally and absolutely in every way not unique or representative to our region, state, or school.

    Hawks don't fight:  While I do concede that I am not an expert in ornithology, I'm pretty sure the idea of hawks fighting is completely nonsensical.  Hawks soar, hawks prey, hawks hunt and they probably do some other things to kill time but they don't fight.   Do we really want to have the official name of our school be something that doesn't even make sense?

    Hawks isn't original at all:   Somewhere on this forum there are stats on how many schools who have had to change their native American nicknames opted to go with Hawks as a nickname and the number is astounding!  Look it up.

    Make no mistake about it, Changing our name to Fighting Hawks is actually changing our name to Hawks.  Fighting can be put in front of any name and by the way of the three names up for vote it fits Hawks the least by a million miles.  Fighting Roughriders- 0k, Fighting-Nodaks-I like how this sounds, Fighting Hawks-Huh?? really??  ...hey look at those hawks fight!  They are very impressive fighters those hawks..

    The fact that Hawks got Fighting included in it as a nickname option is almost a little suspicious? One could argue that putting 'fighting' with hawks was a ploy to manipulate people into being drawn to a generic name by including fighting in the name making it feel similar to "fighting Sioux'?  I'm just saying.

     

    Please tell everyone you can these reasons to NOT vote for Hawks.

    100% agreed that Kelly and his wife will shorten it to hawks so people/students don't yell Sioux after fighting at events...

    University of North Dakota Hawks?

    University of North Dakota Nodaks?

    qb sneak when they start winding the clock....no td take timeout...next play roll out and throw to seven foot te....if not open throw into stands....kick fg and go into ot at home...shouldn't be that hard...kill probably had a heart attack watching that sh@&&@^t show.

    at what point do the douchebags at the alerus put something/anything down on the exposed concrete to protect these young men?  santiago is flying to the pylon and then goes skidding around on the concrete on his td run....are they gonna wait til someone breaks their neck especially with the speed we have with santiago, smith, and georges running around out there...

    Clive with 2 receptions, both for TDs.  He needs about 10-12 targets a game these last 2 games.  MSU couldn't run with him.

    I can't believe we don't have more than 50 students that want to watch a free football game.  I will say it, our students are a joke. Take 15,000 students, 300 are at the game or participating in the game. (Players, trainers, cheer team, band). We are at 2%, wow!!

    the ad/rea make hockey an event...seems like the others sports are an annoyance to a lot of them.  but yeah what a joke

    i work with two und students...i asked one what nickname he voted for and he said he didn't vote but he would have voted nodaks...i offered him five dollars for him to vote RR and i'm pretty sure we will settle for seven dollars or a little caesars pizza...one more for RR.  the other student voted FH because of the cool logo...i showed her the "_____ Hawks Gif" and she looked dumbfounded...she said she probably isn't going to vote again because of kelly's switching things mid vote but if she does i'm pretty sure it won't be for FH!!

    will the real vote look a lot like this vote where i think over 200 voted last week and so far half way thru the week 111 have voted and it is really slowed down in the last 24 hours...what would the third vote (if they are really having athird vote) look like?? 8000 votes?

    Get off your soap box buddy. I'm voting for the option I like best. I didn't make up the rules and I didn't change the rules. If this goes to a third runoff, and Nodaks is not in it, then I will vote Roughriders. Though the thought is crossing my mind to completely vote against Roughriders, just to piss you off.

    maybe switch that to "I'm voting for the option that's BEST FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA?
