  1. Imagine me pulling your original post and calling you out as "not knowing hockey" because you misstated our loss last year in the NCAAs as being a second from the Frozen Four. You call me out specifically in your post above. Read my posts in context. Hak missing 2 final fives would probably not be well received by alumni, and might get him fired. It was a hypothetical. Blais going to Minny would warrant upset faces too. I don't know many Sioux faithful that would be pleased with that scenario. Would I hire Dean Blais? Yes, as I think he is the best amateur coach in the world and showed another reason this year with WJC gold. Regardless, I use this site to vent A LOT. Most people on here support the program completely, including me. I support the program having grown up in GF, despite being a two time Gopher(undergrad and MBA). I for one do not put blind faith in anyone, however; and I will always want more championships. I live in Mpls and travel to several games a year and watch 90 percent of those that I don't attend on the internet. Insinuating a lack of my worthiness as a Sioux fan is insulting and shows an ignorant disrespect. I will happily talk hockey and buy a beer to 99 percent of people. If you want to make a judgment, read every post and educate yourself. Most of my issues with Hak are constructive. You will see me complain about the cycle and the high breakout. You will see me complain about the defensemen's abilities to handle an aggressive forecheck. These are coaching issues. There is plenty of good too, but I don't teach kindergarten.
  2. Just ones who go to Yale, and just for next Saturday!
  3. I've been looking for video of Trupper's up over and around move with the puck from last night. I saw it live and wan't sure if I saw what I saw...a little showing off the wax job ala lacrosse style. Anyone got a link?
  4. I just scanned BC's roster...their team is full of tiny men again.
  5. Yale lost Backman the aforementioned Ivy League POTY along with his 21 goals and then got bounced from the ECAC tourney in 3 games by Brown. They were not playing this weekend. Yale is 2-0-1 (we're 5-8-2) against the tourney field having beaten Cornell twice and tied Wisconsin. We've played 10 more games than they have (42 vs 32), so there are several ways to look at that: They have fresher legs, but we've been through more. COmpound that with them resting for two weeks vs us playing 6 games in 9 days. I think that this full week off will take care of the fatigue, and if anything make us stronger down the stretch. Yale has a strong powerplay at 23.5 percent. They take a lot of shots and score a lot of goals. They also have had golatending by committee and all their goalies have pretty mediocre save %s. I don't know if they have played a puck possession team like us... As someone else noted, they are quite small in stature for the most part. Our tall defensemen are going to need to be smart, Blood's elbows will be head high on a bunch of these guys. We've got to play physical but smart...we did that for the most part this past weekend. Establish a physical presence, but stay out of the box. Bottom line is that they can't match our depth. Sioux win 6-3.
  6. I know that they lost the Ivy League POTY to injury not long ago, so they are down a top player. I'm not sure where they finished in the ECAC tourney...
  7. If you're going WCHA, gota go BSU rather than Miami!
  8. Definitely that, but also to prevent Red from having a coronary.
  9. Let's go beat up some smart kids.
  10. I think the committee did fine, they preserved the integrity of the 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc for the potential regional championship games, while still improving attendance. I like our chances out east. Love it that both rubes have the Sioux in the Frozen Four.
  11. If the Sioux make a good NCAA run, Hak should definitely have a legit shot at national coach of the year. What this team has overcome is remarkable. Not only youth and the loss of Chay, but losing Gleason for this tourney as well.
  12. I think that projection is spot on too. They might swap Michigan and NH just to keep Red from having a heart attack and dying when told he has to play UND AGAIN.
  13. Not our best performance, but a solid team win; especially considering the mix and match lines. Passes will need to be crisper tomorrow, and our dmen will be tested more. Gregoire, VV and Malone showed up big time. Especially Gregoire. If JG and Frattin are both at the top of their games, we will be tough to compete against. Throw in VV and Malone with their physical presence and we can win the forecheck. Having both Davidson and Fienhage rotating in was not as bad as I thought it would be. The freshman line did fine too. Looking forward to having the BMT: bone marrow transplant line back: brad, matt and trupp! Go Sioux!
  14. In looking at the PWR on USCHO, it looks like a Ferris State win tomorrow will bounce the Dogs from the NCAAs
  15. No Dynamo this year...unless Hextall earns the title! See you tonight!
  16. On another thread it has been posted that Tony Lucia signed a deal. I can't find any supporting evidence of this. I know he was drafted by the sharks late (like 6th round) and I don't think he was ever part of any trades. I don't see anything on USCHO, INCH, the Sharks site, their Worcester AHL affiliates site or their ECHL afiliates site. I am not ripping him, and please don't turn this thread into Tony Lucia bashing. I am just looking for corroboration. I would guess that he will play in the east coast league, but who knows.
  17. Although not scientific and not based on stats, but rather on games I've witnessed the Keys to the Five: Shut down UMD's first line and stay out of the penalty box. UMD has an exceptional pp,and wins games because of it. UMD is extremely talented on the first line and solid on the second. They fall off dramatically on the third and fourth. Goaltending is mediocre and dcorps is mediocre. Wisconsin has a ton of talent and is extremely deep. They can be scored on, however. Get to them early and don't let them play their system. They are great with a lead. Another team that you can't give pps to. DU has the best goaltender and a very skilled and experienced team. They can be beat, but we can't take our foot off the accelerator. If we play on our toes rather than our heels, we can beat them. SCSU is good but not great. They have skill, but they have unpredictable goaltending. I believe they are the least complete team, but they are very capable of stealing a win with their first line and pp.
  18. Right next to you again Sioux-cia! Always a fun time.
  19. I was afraid you were going to say that.
  20. What's with all these "dirty" adjectives on the hit? Where did these people learn hockey? Brutal? Yes, Unnecessary? Yes, Violent? Yes, Reckless? Probably, Dirty? No, Cheap? No. Dirty to me intimates cheap play like extra stick work or Slough foots or hitting from behind. Cheap to me means never going at a guy man to man, but taking shots when they aren't in a position to meet you head on, then turtling to a challenge. Frattin's charge was brutal and violent, but it was man to man and face to face. If the Gophers had such a problem with it they certainly had an entire period to settle the score like men. It's not like Frattin is a goon that we'd be fine losing, he is the sniper on our second line. Have the helicopter parents finally taken over hockey?
  21. We need Gleason for the NCAAs, so if he is nicked up at all, I'd expect to see him in street clothes in St Paul. The Fienhage injury report is an interesting twist. I hate to say it, but this entire report is plausible.
  22. I sent the video to a buddy of mine who could care less about the Sioux, but is big time hockey guy having played in the W in his younger days. His comment? "Awesome Hit."
  23. I think the issue is that it shows a lack of sporting respect. I'm sure tDon was disappointed and pi$$ed off about losing and about getting physically beaten up, but he needs to show good sportsmanship. If the coaches don't lead by example, the league could easily degenerate into thuggery. It doesn't matter one way or another, and I know that Hak flipped the bird, etc. etc. But a coach should not disrespect a player, he needs to be bigger than that. Think about how much you despise him, but shake his hand and go to the locker room. I also think it shows Hexy really, really got into their minds...I wonder what type of smack he talks to have officials think he is a lunatic and to have opposing coaches refuse to shake his hand.
  24. you were there, i was not. It's a pretty reliable source that i am citing, but i wasn't there. Anyway, we've got to play 180 minutes this weekend, 9 periods. then it's all about 240 minutes and 12 periods to hang #8...DU, WI, Miami...we've played them all. They are all good teams, but they are certainly beatable. BC i haven't seen, but would venture that they are very skilled and very good.
  25. And you watched Don Lucia specifically through the entire handshake line? I've got it on word that it was even on one of the cameras and the decision was quickly made not to show it. Also, I loved when during the preamble the FSN geniuses labeled it as a goalie battle and showed Kangas'goals allowed in the series, completely ignoring the fact that he was hooked in the third on friday.
