Easy fellas, two rivals, two great programs, and as Jerry York puts it "brand names in college hockey". MN and NODAK are about as true traditional powers as can be...any given year. Great traditions, great records, great junior and hs players would love to wear either crest.

They're all gone. Kozek is a number 2 pick, and Atlanta is going to want to see if they can turn that NHL shot into 25-30 goals in the AHL this year. If he does, he will get a legitimate shot at the Thrashers camp for 2009. Duncs will get a decent offer as well, and he will also get his shot in the AHL, with probably similar criteria to getting a legit shot at an NHL roster for 2009. I heard that there were quite a few players frustrated with Hak this year too. If that rumor is true, then those guys will for sure take off. It also wouldn't surprise me if those guys are some of the teams most likely to play at the next level guys.

When did this become a board for AA? :) In all seriousness, I know the statements are meant for the right reasons, but seriously, all my buddies and I drank at least 4 nights a week in college, and none of us have a post college problem. I am quite sure that it is premature to be concerned about boozing it up in college and getting stupid citations.

It is going to be a new look Sioux team next year I think we'll see something like below to start: VV with Watkins and Gregoire Trupp with Toews and Cichy Zajac with Frattin and Hextall Fourth line up for grabs: Martens, Miller, Davidson, Forney, Malone, lamoureaux Marto and Jones Lapoint and MacWilliams Blood and ___________

SDSioux, you don't need to apologize to anyone. I, for one, and for what its worth, believe that you are entitled to say anything you want. I don't like thread Nazis who intimidate or name call. We all have opinions, and agree or disagree, they're all valid. I enjoy this site, and most disagreements are civil. I think there are just a lot of people who really wanted this year to be the year. Ray ferraro is canadian kid who played in the W. He had 108 goals as a 19 year old playihng in Brandon. He also had a very long NHL career. Based on that resume, I doubt he has clue one about college hockey.

It was race horse hockey that won it for us in 1987, 1997 and 2000. We played race horse hockey in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 with Parise, Bucks etc. I think that when we lost to Denver in 2003-2004 something changed (obviously Blaiser left), and a different style was brought forth. We've had success since, mostly due to personnel (Toews, Oshie, Stafford, Zajac, etc), but there was a definitive change in style. Hak probably recognized something. I mean Denver didn't run and gun back then and they won 2 in a row, Wisconsin won one playing the most nauseating hockey imagineable. I'm with you goon. I would way rather lose like we did in the 2003-2004 Final 5 (even to those same Gophs) if the style was the style we played then True Sioux Hockey. That game, in my opinion was one of the best college hockey games ever played.

I've been trying to have a discussion around getting rid of the high break out and ending the cycle offense, but all everyone seems to want to talk about is a college party and the condemnation of a bunch of 18-23 year-olds (and Robbie ) and the lambasting of a coach who took his team to their fourth frozen four in four years. Anyone want to talk HOCKEY. I put my thoughts out on the thread around reloading earlier today.

He missed on his kick after his original kick up towards his stick. He made a clear effort to play the puck with his feet, albeit once again, to then try and play the puck with his stick. Had he not tried to play the puck with his skate, i.e. it just defelected off his skate and in, then I call it a goal. However, it was clear to me that he "played" the puck off his skates and it went in. DO you really believe that they would blow a call after a five to ten minute video review in the national championship game? They made the right call.

ANybody else up on a systems reload as opposed to player reload. The best thread regarding the new guys is the 2007-2008 Sioux Recruits-monitoring their junior league play. The one thing to keep in mind is that the likes of a Jonathan Toews or Zach Parise showing up on our door year in and year out is a ridiculous expectation. Those two guys are absolutely elite NHLers. No team gets those types of recuits each and every year. We got spoiled with them. Intersting side note, this team had zero 20 goal men. When is the last time that a Sioux team didn't have a single guy on the team pump in 20?

I thought the expose on the Goofs at the Blarney was stupid too. Big deal. I hope the producers of that shocking, peabody worthy story feel really great about themselves. Next years expose...statutory rape after the Prom. 16, 17 and 18 year olds engaging in illegal sexual activity. Are these people just worried that some people might be having too much fun? The pass hits the ND forward's left skate and ricochets toward his right skate. He kicks it up to his stick, and makes a second, follow-up effort to kick it again and misses. He tries to knock the puck in with his stick, and the BC defender ties up his stick and clears him away from the crease. The puck went in because he kicked at it. Again, he was kicking at it to get it up to his stick to knock in a gimme, but the BC defender cleaned him out of there and it was no goal. If that were a Gopher forward against the Sioux, no way would we want that to stand.

Gregoire will be a solid freshman. He is among the leaders in the USHL in scoring and is a drafted player. Toews, well the name alone gives me hope Cichy is a top-end skill guy. Hextall has been a horse for his team, especially in the playoffs.

The Goofs at the Blarney Stone, to my knowledge, were not cited by Minneapolis PD. The season was done!!! These guys are now just college kids having a good time until next fall. Would it be different if they were celebrating number 8 with a loud party?? People on this board would come unglued if they were cited under that circumstance.

I'll disagree. I think it was the right call. The forward clearly kicks the puck (albeit towards his stick rather than towards the goal) and the angle of that action results in the puck going into the net. I realize that the rule states it needs to be directed toward the crease, and it was "sort of". I think the question is would you allow it if it was the game winner with 0:03 seconds left? I think not, because it was debatable. While this call clearly influences the outcome of the game, it did not "give" a win or a loss. The key piece is that the BC defenseman ties up the ND forwards stick and drives him to safety. If he failsin that endeavor it is a tap-in goal that would stand regardless.

We've got some big time scorers coming up. We did have a goalie in the wings, and he is now in the OHL. Agree that we need some more speed. While I am not on the bannish Hextall to Kamchatka band wagon, I do believe that there are some issues that we really need to address as far as style of play. We were beaten to a pulp by a team that resembled...the 1997 Sioux: A bunch of little, skilled forwards who can flat out fly. More than personel, however, I am starting to move away from the system. This is critical, as for any system to work, the players have to believe in it 100%. A high breakout is ridiculous. It is an attempt to open the ice east/west to beat a neutral zone trap, but it flat out doesn't work. 1. If the forechecker(s) are top end skaters, they will cut off the passing lanes and force the defenseman to skate the puck up (how many times did we see Marto or Chay or Taylor have to do this?) then you end up with four Sioux at the offensive blue line, actually helping the opponent clog up the ice. From that point it is basically a stop and start into the attack zone, so you are not carrying any speed or the right number of players into it. 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 is fine into the attack zone, it allows room to manuever. 4 on 4 or 4 on 5 or 5 on 5 at the offencive blue line is not a transition game, it is pick-up hockey. 2. If you try and force the outlet pass on the high break out, you are going to give up a ton of neutral zone turnovers. Even if you hit the forward, the pass is going to have to be a bullet to get there, meaning that there is a high likelihood of it not being able to be caught cleanly. Add to it the fact that at that kind of velocity if the pass is off even a tiny bit, the puck is going to be in the skates or off the boards, it isn't going to be on the tape. 3. We need to shorten up the passes and establish a good clean breakout. Good positional hockey. I don't want to see a forward past the hash while the puck is still behind our net. Next Point is the cycle. Man, how many times do we have to see it not work! Proponents will show the few times a year that it does work or tout how it wears down the opposition...JUNK. I never again want to see three forwards below the goal line or on the same side of the ice. Wingers roam the circle on your side of responsibility, go into the corner to dig or drive your post with your stick on the ice. That's it. Weak side wingers find an open spot with a nice look at the net, keep your feet moving so you can go into the corner or drive the net or get at a loose puck, again keep the stick on the ice and be ready to shoot. This is fundamental positional hockey. Centers should be all over the ice like a coked up lunatic, diging for the puck and looking to make passes. How do we never effectively run a give and go by the way? For cripes sake, we learned how to do that well in Pee Wee. I thoroughly believe that the criticism of Brian Lee, Derek Lapoint, Joe Finley and even Taylor Chorney some this year is less their fault than the fault of the system and of the forwards. I belt Wade Redden would have trouble transitioning a breakout if his forwards were up past the red line. I also think that very breakout led to those clogged up offensive blue line situations where a good poke check springs the other team into transition and leaves those d-men out on an island. That being said, our defensemen need to be more aggressive. Anyway, that is my take. We will reload and be just fine personnel-wise. I think we need a system reload to go with it.

only in a college town of 50,000 in a state of 600,000 is this an issue. Come on. GFPD get off the hockey team. What an absolutely pointless issue. Those who think the guys should sit alone in their rooms and feel badly about laying an egg in the F4, get serious. I would be the first one to crank it up. The sun will rise tomorrow, they lost, they are disappointed, time to have a good time and look forward to next year.

Flags flying, band playing: Freedom of Speech!!! This isn't China, this isn't Nazi Germany or the former Soviet Union! This is America! And to quote the great Bill Murray, you know what that means? That means that our ancestors were kicked out of every decent country in the world. Some people need to get a grip. We lost, it was a bad loss. Today we continue with our lives and look forward to the start of the 2008-2009 campaign.

I am optimistic based almost solely on the fact that we are bringing in a Toews!!!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if Edmonton has their team doc take a look at Taylor, do any necessary procedures, and draw up the rehab plan. I will definitely miss Chorns...
