  1. These two players have really stepped it up. Fuher also played pretty well this weekend, at both positions. McMahon was probably the best player on the ice this weekend. I don't know if I would agree the Sioux are off to a "crappy" start. The ties against kato and NU sucked, but losses to MN, BC, and CC are not much to worry about IMO. MN is probably the best team in the country right now. BC and CC are both very good teams. It looks like the WCHA race is going to be closer than most (including myself) predicted. I think MN, CC, UND, UMD and WI are going to be a very tight 1-5. I haven't seen Denver play yet, but it sounds like they could be right up there also. Personally I would rather split with MN, CC and take 3/4 from kato than get swept by AA I would also rather take 1 out of 4 points from BC/NU than 1/4 from Vermont Running into hot goalies sucks, doesn't it Dog fans
  2. Do they have to pick from the players at the camp this summer? Goligoski should be on the team. He is my new prediction for WCHA ROY.
  3. 1996-97 Sioux-City Musketeers USHL Head Coach
  4. I seem to remember Gretzky fighting Dave Christian or some other MN born player for the North Stars. I want to say it was Gretzky's only real fight in the NHL. I know Mario dropped the gloves a few times when he was younger.
  5. During high school, I played junior hockey and still hold two league records: most time spent in the penalty box; and I was the only guy to ever take off his skate and try to stab somebody.
  6. Oshie was also selected along with Olimb and Hardwick. I guess Vandevelde had a very good weekend in the playoffs, as did Becker and Loos. Ammerman was consistent all tourny. Olimb also looked good. I'm not sure about Hardwick, he didn't look great during the GF tourny but he put up good numbers offensively the rest of the way.
  7. Thanks as always PCM. I like the way Hak talks. He knows what the problem is and knows what needs to be done to fix it. I think he is right on. Spirko, RM, Zajac should be an interesting line, they should generate some offense. The players are still trying to adjust to a new coaching style, and new enforcement of the rules. Greene would be crazy to come back next season, clearly college hockey is not going to develop his style of play. I think that is too bad. They could cut down on the obstruction penalties without driving out players like Greene.
  8. I'm pretty sure Goldy hates old people and is for world domination by rodents.
  9. Hmm, any lawyers on here specialize in medical malpractice? This is very sad, he was one of the most liked players on the Wild. I sold beer at the Excel Center a few years ago, he was always on the ice goofing around before warmups. He would hop over the glass and talk to us vendors and ushers. Not that anyone could really understand what he was saying. He was just a very friendly guy. It seems crap like this always happens to the nice guys, why couldn't it have happened to a guy like Latrell Sprewell instead
  10. I think it has something to do with this quote questioning the class ND has:

Anyone who doesn't realize the sarcasm of this thread must have been dumb enough to vote for Kerry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    UND vs CC

I think Bina has really surprised the coaches. I think his role coming into the program was a little different than playing a regular shift. Especially with the new enforcement of the rules, he may be the best D the Sioux have had this year. He hits hard, doesn't get penalties, and is a source of offense. That is not to say he is better than Jones, Greene et al, but his style of play combined with his talent earned him a regular spot IMO. Didn't Fuhrer play forward in HS (the one year he was here)? Anyone know how Foyt did, I didn't get to see the BC game.

    Rip on Hak

Sorry Dirty - they were going to hire me, but I wanted to finish school, the ABA only allows students to work 20 hours a week So they panicked and hired that Hakstol guy, I'm pretty sure he's not even an American. Cheap Canadian labor can only take you so far.
  14. I don't think UND has a shot at him with the Q on the list.
  15. IMO part of the college sports experience is a rowdy student section. They should stand most of the game and yell as much as possible. It adds to the atmosphere. From my experiences in the student section, whenever the students act like students they are threatened by REA staff. To be fair the vast majority of the REA staff is very nice and kindly try and get the students to "behave", but eventually they find someone to threaten the students with expulsion. I attended my last game where I will sit in the student section during the Gopher series. I had fellow fans yelling at me the entire game, one wanting to fight me. At the same time I was told by various REA security to sit down at least a dozen times, until the last REA guy said he was kicking out anyone found standing (he did kick out at least 10 people in 307). I will be watching the rest of the games on TV or picking up what tickets I can get. Next year I will hopefully get a good enough job where I can give the REA enough $$ to get season tickets.

    Elite HS Games

They lost in overtime. Overall a very good showing considering they finished next to last in the standings. They had a good team all year, they were always missing players though, especially the last week before the playoffs. I think they get to play next week since they finished in the top two, but I don't know for sure, I'll have to email my cousin.
  17. A little early to write the season off. Sat 10/12/2002 W 7 vs Ohio State (nc) 2 Fri 10/18/2002 T 5 @ New Hampshire (nc) 5 ot Sat 10/19/2002 L 1 @ New Hampshire (nc) 3 Fri 10/25/2002 W 5 @ Michigan Tech 4 Box Sat 10/26/2002 T 3 @ Michigan Tech 3 ot Box Fri 11/01/2002 W 12 Alabama-Huntsville (nc) 1 Sat 11/02/2002 W 4 Alabama-Huntsville (nc) 2 Fri 11/08/2002 L 2 @ Minnesota State 3 Sat 11/09/2002 W 7 @ Minnesota State 4 Fri 11/15/2002 L 3 Colorado College 7 Sat 11/16/2002 T 2 Colorado College 2 ot 5-3-3 was the Gophers start two years ago, they ended the season on a better note. I seem to remember Denver getting the jocks handed to them in GF last season, they ended the season pretty well. The Sioux have a lot of veterans, but many of them are trying to adjust to new roles and/or the new enforcement of the rules. I still think the players can come together and have a good year. And Bring Dean Back - I think your looking for the St. Cloud message board. We support our coach here

    UND vs. BC

It's hard to tell listening to the game, but it sounded like the D played much better. Porter stepped it up, but the rest of the offense didn't, and Parise played well after the first. Stafford and Murray are going to have to step it up soon.
  19. Didn't they rip on UND last year when BC was in town because there were a few hundred empty seats? Let's see if they have a double standard.
  20. He's spent a lot of time on the PK, Greene has spent a lot of time in the box, so the pairings haven't been consistent. The-1 is nothing to worry about at this point, it seems like most of the goals scored for and against have been PP goals, so not a lot of +/- points given out. It appears the D-men have been having problems adjusting to the "new" rules (rather new enforcement of old rules). IMO AS and MS have played the best. Greene and Jones have spent a lot of time in the box, or trying to figure out what they can get away with. This weekend will be a whole new set up rules with HE refs
  21. I say again. It doesn't take as long to execute federal inmates - they obviously have no state courts to appeal to.
  22. Thanks for the recap PCM. I liked what DH said. He didn't dismiss Sat's loss as "no big deal" but at the same time didn't overreact to it. I think the biggest thing this year is figuring out what is/is not a penalty. If our D can figure it out quickly we should be all right. I expected a slow start on offense, losing the top two scorers hurts. The talent it to replace them is there, but I expected it to take a few weeks before some players step up. I liked the comment about Porter on the PP, I can't understand why people think it would be a good idea to have a D on forward during the PP. Porter, Kaip and Massen are the type of player you want in the slot. Foyt playing center - should be interesting, glad to see he's getting a shot in a 'real' game. The few times he's played he has shown some talent, a good skater. I wonder if they ever tried getting Bina to play up, with his speed and offensive skills I think he could play up.
  23. Nash never "recovered" from schizophrenia, there is no cure. Rather he learned to live with it, which is remarkable. He won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994, but it was for a theory he developed about 40 years earlier before he developed schizophrenia. He ended up hanging out around the Princeton campus for years until they hired him. The analogy between Nash and the guy from Duluth was strictly based on the paranoid schizophrenia, I doubt he is a mathematical genious like Nash.
