I think you need to start Cam in the first game, given his success, and his current streak. Depending on what happens in the first game you either continue riding Cam's hot streak, or if he stumbles then you see what you have with Tomek. I'm sure we will see a heavy dose of Tomek next week against the U-18 team. Pretty crazy that goal-tending was probably our biggest question mark coming into this season, and looks to be one of our biggest strengths. I don't think anyone expected Cam to be this good, especially after the small glimpse we saw last year. Certainly didn't expect to see Hyrinkiw step in and play to the caliber that he did. And we havn't even seen Tomek yet, who many projected to be a day 1 starter, if not for injury. At the end of the season, we may need to look back to Hyrinkiw for saving the season. I know he had a ton of help from the rest of the team, but for a third stringer to step into a situation where UND could have easily gone into a tailspin; thats pretty awesome.

I wouldn't expect there style to change. Their QB for next season also started for them all of last season in place of Johnson. They also have some really good receivers returning. Front seven will need to get to the QB fast, and Santiago will need to have a nice game. They showed they are very susceptible to the run against Georgia Southern.

Well, I don't like to brag

I heard from a reliable source that Will Ratelle won't be on the team next year

Pretty much the argument a lot of NDSU fans were giving about scheduling UND. Given where the two programs were at the time the game was scheduled. I agree, I would rather see us play a tougher non-conference opponent, but we have seen our fair share of those as well. Providence last year, BC next year.
-
Good to know. I didn't see the original comment. Certainly not trying approve of everything that NDSU does, just defending my original statement, that I somewhat understand it. As for the Weber, I've heard mixed things on that as well. Not that any of it matters much.
-
Ok, lets clear up a few things here. First of all, there have been some comments on here that kind of lump all NDSU fans into one group. There are plenty of Bison fans that would like to see this rivalry played every year, regardless of where it is played. Then there are plenty of fans, who think their team is God's gift to football. Yes, they played Weber, and yes, I said there were exceptions to the scheduling of difficult teams. But given where the programs have been over recent years, there isn't a ton for NDSU to gain from putting that on the schedule. Revenue, yes; and I'm not saying that they're reasons were great, but it is certainly understandable. Was there bitterness between the schools ... of course, and I think Brad's article this past fall pointed out that there was plenty of blame to go around. Comparing basketball to football is a little ridiculous given the number of games that are played. Any to be fair that is a game that has been scheduled back and forth. I guess what I was saying, it back in the day we could have scheduled NDSU; but we didn't have to, so we didn't. Now, NDSU does not have to schedule UND, so they haven't (at least not on a regular basis. We scheduled UNI back then ..... they schedule Weber and Incarnate Word now. Ultimately, trying to place 100% of the blame on NDSU is about as ignorant as trying to place 100% of the blame on UND.
-
I don't really blame NDSU for not scheduling a home and home, even if their schedule would have allowed it. There was no real reason or need for them to do so. Ultimately, UND could have prevented the rivalry from ever ending, but chose not too. Now NDSU is in a position where playing UND (at least the UND team that we have had over the past several seasons) is of no benefit to them. They are going to try to schedule the perennial powers (yes there are exceptions ex. Incarnate Word) Bottom line, UND wanted to restart the rivalry and was in no position to make many demands. I'm glad that we took the game package that was offered because it opened the door. Throw into the mix that UND is (and hopefully continues) to improve, and hopefully a playoff meeting, and maybe this rivalry will get back on track in a few years. If UND can put themselves into a perennial power position, then maybe we can start scheduling home and homes, and even makes them more frequent.

Fighting Hawk Apparel

Fine Fine Fine .... I'll try to be positive about this new nickname thing .... Guy puts a gun to my head and says, "Put on a Fighting Hawk shirt or a Gopher hockey jersey" ..... I guess I'll bite the bullet and put on the Fighting Hawk shirt. Will that appease some of you
-
It just seem fake when you see it. Like it really is some cruel joke. Oh well, glad I still have my Sioux gear. I hope the new logo is legit and not just something generic. Then again, I was hoping the new nickname was going to be something legit and not just something generic.
-
This is random, but I went over the Bowling Green forum, and they said most of their games are on ESPN3, so there is a good chance (no guarantee) that the UND/BGSU game can be viewed next fall (ahem, your move Wyoming).

Good lord, how did we lose to Idaho State! Thats still stings so bad.
-
Could someone please give a final clarification on this. Is there actually another defections or is there not. I'm hearing on the one had we need more O-lineman purely for depth and competition. On the other hand I am hearing we need to fill spots due to a probable defections. Could someone please clear this up. Posting potential rumors, and beating around the bush, and acting admirable about knowing something but not wanting to share it only creates more confusion, more rumors, and scares fans that are excited about the direction of this team.

But W Illinois MADE THE PLAYOFFS!!! I mean look at all of the quality losses they were able to achieve!!! AND they play in the Holy Grail of conferences, I mean there would barely be and FCS without the Holy MVFC. Please Please Please sense the sarcasm

I'll agree with you for the most part. I'm not read to say "easily" after the curb stomping we got from Montana, but our secondary should definitely be much better next season. What I really like is that our toughest opponents next year are at home, which is great.. Also I think this team learned a lot after losing to Idaho St and Weber St. This team should be ready to play a full four quarters, in every game next season. Just need to beat Stony Brook and then be ready for a big time FBS game. If they can pull that off, then this team will have some serious confidence.

First thought .... an sweet indian head moniker makes for a great sports logo
-
Correct, forgot about E. Wash. And while I agree, its totally fine, it is still a little irritating.Oh well, preseason standing don't really matter anyway, but it would be nice to see these players get a little more respect.
-
Wow, it sounds like the kid also had an offer from W. Illinois. Hard to believe he passed on a "playoff" team.
-
Anyone care to bet on how little respect UND gets in the preseason Big Sky polls next year? I'll bet that we are behind Portland State, Montana, Southern Utah, and Northern Arizona.
-
Meindel seemed to do well, when they let him handle a few kickoffs. Why not just have him take all of them?
-
I guess I haven't heard the specific story, but when I was at the NDSU/USD game (in my sioux shirt) I got plenty of sioux suck !@#$ jeers, but its all in good fun. Nothing wrong with a little ribbing. I think some people tend to get too sensitive, especially when their team loses. And yes it happens at UND too. I remember being in college around 10 years ago and seeing people yelling some pretty rude things to a guy wearing gopher gear, who was with his little girl (maybe around 4) ..... every fan base has some terrible fans.
-
Cloyd and Allen can be our Gronk and Hernandez ..... minus the felon ....... hopefully

Very interesting Can't say enough that I am just happy that UND Football is getting back to being competitive. I'm already so pumped to see what these guys do next season. I just hope there is more hype in Grand Forks to get the Stadium full. If the Alerus can get back to full AND the team puts together a strong season, then this program could be well on its way to being back to where is was. I think a big key to this is getting the fans to the game, then putting on a great show for them. Just really pumped for more UND Football.

Definitely glad that we play Stony Brook before Bowling Green. Should give our team a chance to get comfortable on the field before playing a much tougher opponent. Hopefully our guys just stay healthy.
