Just 11 months ago: http://www.valleynewslive.com/story/20479291/craig-bohl-signs-8-year-extension-with-ndsu ndsu had 'locked up' Bohl and he wouldn't be leaving for anywhere but a BCS job. All you had to do was ask their fans. Crazy.

Looks like all of the sudden UND has a game with a Big 12 opponent in 2015? Neat.

Klieman is gone.

I'd personally rather see Glenn Caruso get the job over Pflugrad. It depends on who you talk to in regards to the reviews on Pflugrad. Glenn's most important traits are that he's been there, done that and turned around programs that were down. He also has the experience in the upper midwest from his stints at ndsu and USD along with his jobs in the cities. I'm 99% sure he was the recruiter who landed Illinois recruits Joe Mays and Steve Walker at ndsu. We know how that ended up. Having said that, Pflugrad wouldn't be a terrible consolation prize. I just happen to have at least 3 other guys I would prefer ahead of him. But I'm not the guy making the hire.

As a pure football coach, Pflugrad is more than qualified. However, I'm surprised that most are completely looking past the off-the-field issues, even aside from the Johnson case. Not sure it's the type of guy I would want running the UND program. I have a hard time believing Faison goes with him based on the off field track record. When you start throwing in "major violations" on top of the Johnson situation, an AD like Faison would have to have red flags all over. As a side note, it's horrible timing for Pflugrad given the Hardee ordeal. Faison will not want to deal with any potential baggage or shady track record with this hire in my opinion. Based on what I hear and know about Pflugrad specifically and the UND search, I'd guess there's a 5% chance he ends up getting the job. Just my .02 and speculation on "Pflu".

You referred to the team culture earlier in this thread, which I thought was appropriate. How does bringing in JUCOs help with that? Sometimes in order to turn it around, you have no choice but to bring in some "lunch pail and hard hat" guys that play with a ton of UND pride and have a chip on their shoulder. Sure they are less recruited and probably less talented in most cases. But they will be coachable, hopefully academically stable and will represent UND and the community well on and off the field. I guess we just disagree on this one.
-
A couple drop down FBS kids would be ok if the hired coach has connections with the kids. Going out and getting a bunch of JUCOs is not the answer. I sincerely hope the next head coach doesn't do that.

Freund and Myers is my understanding...

Honest question: what are you talking about?
-
I agree. Based on the hiring process and human resources protocol for UND and this job specifically, I'd say there is 99.9% chance you are correct. I don't think the candidates who will be considered seriously by Faison will throw their hat in the ring until very late in the game, perhaps right before the buzzer. Just the nature of this hiring process beast.

If true about Jameer, it was only a matter of time. Good luck to him.

Here's the link to the Herald article: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/278767/publisher_ID/40/ Great news on the proposed new and improved facilities.

I remember the attitude I had when I walked into Hyslop when watching those teams play. You could just feel it in the air that there was no way they were going to lose. Well coached, great players, great leaders, great team play. It would be nice to get back to that feeling again at the Betty.

Great win by the men tonight. Controlled the game from start to finish. Shot free throws well. Still need to work on defense though. Cannot let a guy like Braun just continually get to the rim. Excited to see where this team goes this year.

Connecting flight to Boston for the hockey series this weekend?...
-
Interesting question to say the least. The conflict of interest would be massive if Klieman stayed on staff for the remainder of the season, which I presume he would. Specifically for recruiting.
-
Honestly, WTH?...
-
Correct.

You do understand that part of the recruiting process and building a rapport with a HS is the high school coach right? Whether any of us like it or not, they have BIG influence in a kids decision. The only reason I mention it is because it would appear that you don't understand it. You'll have to forgive me if I've read into it incorrectly.

While I'm no basketball expert, I'm seriously concerned about the physicality of Wisconsin and their style of play and how UND holds up against it. Im hoping for the best though!

Agreed about Alvarez, with the exception of the skill players from Florida. Speed guys like Lee Evans and Chris Chambers were found in Ohio, Michael Bennett from Milwaukee and Jamar Fletcher was a Missouri kid. Their best WR right now (Abbrederis) is a former walk-on I believe from in-state. In my opinion, you can find the requisite skill guys in the upper midwest (ND, MN, WI, IA, NE, etc....even IL) They're there to be had, we just havent been getting them (in MN and WI). We need the new guy, whomever it may be, to get them. I realize the skill guys in a state like ND are few and far between, but when they are there, you have to have a chance at getting them. Generally speaking, coastal kids and North Dakota are not and have not been a good match. FWIW Barry Alvarez would "stand on the table" for a certain someone. 100% guarantee. Sorry, not trying to start another disagreement on that.

There's a legit sample size of how we've already "expanded" in to the western states enough I think isnt there? A kid here or there is fine, but...
-
No, he's not LITERALLY a UND guy in terms of playing here. FIGURATIVELY, he's more of a UND guy than many of our football letterwinners and current players. EDIT: The people who want a 'fresh start' and someone who's not a 'good ol boy' from UND get their wish. The people who want a 'UND Guy' get theirs.

What's Big Sky Country? What does that mean? How does that help? If you are referring to recruiting, which is where it all starts, don't we all agree that we need to do better in the upper midwest for recruiting? ND, MN, WI? We do NOT need kids from California, Washington and Oregon. Not sure how being familiar with Big Sky country really helps. I respectfully disagree and believe we need a coach who understands how to recruit the upper midwest successfully.
