  1. I thought, @ first, they were talking about Concordia College down in Moorhead & almost had a conniption. I believe they're a Quebec university.
  2. Just thinking, some of these may be 'Random Thoughts of Happiness' but not 'Random Thoughts of Reality'..let's hope it's the latter.
  3. Zach Parise staying all 4 years Solid Sioux goaltending in '03-'04 & beyond The Sioux reaching 10 titles b4 Michigan
  4. It's been both funny & sad at the same time watching the steady increase in exposure women's "athletics" has received in the past 30 years. In the early '70's there was practically zilch as far as women's sports on tv--the only time you really saw them "competing" was every 4 years during the Olympics. Then ESPN arrived on the scene in '79 or so & even then they didn't cover much. That changed in the mid-late '80's & now I can't even put in a good afternoon of Sat. channel surfing without being blitzed by women's BB, lacrosse, pool, bowling, darts, you name it. I just can't fathom why they get so much airtime. NBC is under no Title IX umbrella when it comes to its professional sports so why do they continue to air such circus shows like the WNBA? So they don't lose the .005% lesbian market share?
  5. Thx, Sicatoka, for answering in a timely manner.
  6. Rest assured, I think conspiracies are too abstract for them to conceive & carry through.
  7. Does anyone know if the DIII management council is an arm of the NCAA or are they completely different entities?
  8. If passed, what a crock. A bunch of bureaucrats trying to justify their paychecks by meddling into affairs that need no meddling. "No major scandals at the DI level lately? Hey, let's see what we can turn upside down for our DIII friends?" Can you imagine if they did this for DII institutions also? Oy! There would be only 15-20 or so DI hockey teams left...
  9. Don't really agree with you on this assessment; I think Hale & Martin are pretty equal talent-wise. I don't think Martin is anywhere close to Hale in terms of physical play--punishing open-ice body checks, clearing the front of the net, fighting when need be--attributes similar to Scott Stevenson. Martin can't punish big NHL power forwards like LeClair, Tkachuk (sp) & others... But Martin is a much better offensive player & has the transition skills Hale & many other D-men lack. If Hale can keep his medical condition under control, I'd say they're pretty equal
  10. The missing link to the 1st line will officially arrive in 2 months; should be THE most explosive offensive unit in college hockey. Now, if the 3rd & 4th lines step it up, even marginally, we should be ok offensively.
  11. I think you meant loss of "rotating goalie role".
  12. Similar offenses, yes, but theft carries more negative backlash than speeding-probably because it's such a selfish act. Sioux fans had to endure almost a year of Bochenski jokes, I can only imagine what Gopher fans will be spewing this year if he still plays for us If Blais could overlook Bo's counterfeiting, you'd think he would overlook Brandt's theft. But then again, maybe not, as Bo wasn't a UND student at the time & he's also more talented...
  13. Thanks, Goon, for pointing out that Vivian Nelson. Her website is a perfect example of political correctness run wild (notice all the different types of discrimination? political, racial, age, etc etc). This mindset gained momentum in the '60s & has virtually sunk America. You can thank the cultural Marxists for this-- PC, feminism & radical liberalism are its offshoots. Political correctness is an ideology & ideologies are incompatible with a democracy because they don't foster free speech/independent thought. They're just as dangerous as those tree-hugging environmentalists. What's this have to do with hockey? Nothing. Goon brought up this Ms. Nelson & should be thanked for exposing this idealogue to more people who weren't aware of her previously. Keep this woman & her like east of the Red River. I'm sure she could find a job elsewhere at SCSU or some other liberal Minnesota institution...
  14. Thanks, gentlemen, for responding in a timely manner. Some Sioux fans had grilled Siembida so much during the season that I thought there would have been a ticker-tape parade when he left (that's why I was surprised he was gone because I didn't see any partying on this board).
  15. Thanks, Goon, but when did Siembida's departure become official?
  16. So Siembida left the team? When did this happen? Are Sofie & Ranfranz still here? Thanks for the news...
  17. Ditto. True talent is always fun to watch & it helps our players, especially our forwards, improve.
  18. Many fans have different takes on what's keeping the Sioux from greatness. While an improvement in each area would no doubt make us very strong, I'd like to hear what area is most deficient. I know this topic is discussed ad nauseum, but I wanted to start this poll so other threads can remain true to their theme & undiluted. Maybe Blais, Inc. does listen to his fans & checks this site when not fishing Your feedback is appreciated. Thank you.
  19. Thanks, jk, for sharing your perspective. Being a distant observer, I'm not going to dispute your opinions. Besides, they sound pretty convincing & insightful. I guess I didn't express myself very well. I meant to say that the additions of Irmen & Potulny would have given the Sioux forwards some scoring punch that they currently lack with their juniors (that's why I mentioned Canady, Connelly, etc). I didn't mean to imply that our freshmen were subpar; just that we could have been that much better with Irmen & Potulny in Kelly green. It sounds like we're set defensively for the next 2-3 years with Beaverson & Radke rolling in next year. It'll be interesting to see if Blais can make his forward lines as deep as his defensive corp. It's difficult to win championships with one explosive line & a significant drop in forward talent after that. Time to heavily scout/recruit the very TOP USHL forwards & those from the w. Canadian junior A leagues...
  20. I stand by my conviction that the difference between UND & UM this year will be their incoming recruits. Had the Sioux landed Potulny & Irmen, they would have had a very good chance at finishing first. Imagine these 2 on a 2nd line-- 3 deep scoring lines & a formidable checking line of Hale, McMahon & Prpich. We'll just hope that Canady, Connelly & Genoway (Palmo) can find the twine unlike last year... Nebraska football is a good example of an athletic program that very rarely lets its in-state talent escape to other schools--the same should be said of UND.
  21. I noticed that M. Prpich went undrafted a couple weeks ago. I think he has the size & grit to make the pros someday; does anyone else think he got overlooked?
  22. Hello to my fellow Sioux hockey bretheren... A little about me: I've been an avid Sioux hockey fan for 30+ years, but haven't seen a live game since '89 so I rely on your first-hand observations to keep me up-to-date. Thanks for your continued passion... From what I've HEARD, their transition game needs just as much improvement as their pp. How many times did we hear Greene blindly shooting the puck off the sideboards for icing after icing or other D-men misconnecting on their outlet passes? For the Sioux to seriously contend next year, the Sioux coaching staff needs to remedy these areas (along with goaltending, getting more production out of the 3rd & 4th lines, crashing the net more...).
