  1. Right on, Goon. I agree that the straight white anglo male is being unduly punished & is their primary focus, but everyone who disagrees with their agenda is labeled & scorned, imo. 100+ years ago, Native Americans were forced to live on reservations or die. Now they're being told that they can't even be proud of a harmless symbol (the Sioux name/logo). They have a legitimate right to be pi$$ed after their culture was turned upside down & now they have to face some irrational, angry white women who want to tell them what to do. BTW, Goon, I like how you listed your priorities: hockey, hunting, golf & then work. Was that in order of favorite to least favorite?
  2. Hard to argue with facts like that. Blue chip talent or a lack thereof can mean the difference between a great team & a mediocre one. But I'm more of the Barry Melrose mentality & will be focused on the inner drive, spunk & other character qualities of this team. How will they react under pressure? Will they have a "never say die" attitude & pull out tough victories on the road? Will they rally when behind or fold? Intangibles like that. Anaheim was far from the best NHL team last year but went deep off a little luck & a lot of heart...
  3. The Phx. Coyotes chose Shane Doan today for their captain this year so perhaps the Sioux will be following suit shortly.
  4. Thanks a lot, Dr. Yeagley, for sharing some of your sentiments on this topic. I sometimes wonder why feminists are so frickin' concerned about changing a name & avoid issues like runaway alcoholism & other social ills on reservations. I think categorizing people into groups helps to understand them better. Women on the far left of the Democratic Party are most often feminist liberals. Feminist liberals (redundant, I know ) want to change the way we think, the words & symbols we use. Why? I'm not sure but I think that to have a successful socialist society one has to strip away ethnic pride/identity in order for multiculturalism to fluorish. The distinctions between black & white, man & woman blur & everyone's equal in a socialist's eyes. Either that or they're really misguided . All this compliments of political correctness--the most destructive element to ever hit Western democracy. It would be nice, Dr., if you could share some of your comments from that radio show. I'd like to hear how you countered some of those dimwits. Thanks again.
  5. Goon: Don't know if you're aware of it or not, but over the last 6 weeks or so a couple others & I were advocating such a forum where a variety of topics could be discussed. That thread is called Forum expansion & it's in this very forum, Administrative. Haven't heard any feedback from the moderator lately & the closer we get to hockey season the less likely it'll be approved, imo ( Why? There's a better chance something like this would get approved in the summer when everyone's bored--not during the hockey season when most posters are preoccupied with hockey & nothing else)... It would be fun, though, & would add another dimension to this board by making it more appealing to a greater cross section of people. Example: An alum living in CA may have no interest in Sioux athletics but may want to correspond with other area residents about current events or other topics. That isn't possible right now with the current format...
  6. Att-i-ca, Att-i-ca!! Goon, you've got a good point. It's difficult to discuss any aspect of this topic without delving into politics. But I think the moderator has issues with people discussing pure politics that don't pertain to the Sioux name controversy; in other words, he didn't see a link between Howard Dean & the namechangers That's why I proposed a separate chat forum last month wherein we could discuss topics like these.
  7. I think Ryan's mom passed away last year or the year before. I agree with you, SiouxFan, re: Schneider as he seems like the college hockey equivalent of Cal Ripken. I think there's going to be the same mix as last year (1 defenseman & 2 forwards). C-Schneider A-Parise A-Hale It should be noted that designated team leaders are generally the most well-liked, hardest-working guys on the team; & I frankly don't have a clue as to which guys are Mr. Popular in the Sioux locker room.
  8. Perspective, guys. I'm more concerned about our guys shooting puck after puck into the net.
  9. Stafford may just be the most pleasant surprise this year. I think most Sioux fans expect Murray to do well & put up decent #s but will be willing to cut Stafford a little more slack as he's not quite as highly touted. He should shine, though. It's not too often you can get a player who's both big & strong and has a deft scoring touch. Heard he's quick, as well, but don't know if he has breakaway-speed ability for frequent oddman rushes.
  10. I think the absence of Vanek, G. Potulny, Harrington PLUS recruits R. Potulny & D. Irmen (don't know if I forgot any but there's a Hobey candidate & a couple ROY possibilities in there) would definitely effect their chance of 3 repeating. Of course this is a "what if" scenario & MN would just replace those players with others of similar, but probably not equal, caliber.
  11. Gee, I wonder which state has a lot bigger population?
  12. Maybe Johnny Cochran could have gotten him off completely. Would have been nice to see Roseau get some national attention on Court TV. "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit."
  13. I was just having some good-natured fun with him (that's why I used the smilies). I respect any Gopher fan who has the kahoonas to sell merchandise deep behind enemy lines Can anyone tell me why the Badgers are so despised by other WCHA fans? I know we had a big rivalry with them 20+ years ago, but why the animosity now? It's not like they're stealing blue chippers from us or are a threat to win the NC anytime soon. Most Sioux fans treat the Badgers like they urinated on a Ralph Engelstad memorial in broad daylight. I'll reserve my "hate" for them if/when they become a contender again. Until then, they're nothing more to me than just another struggling team. Seems kinda bass ackwards--hating a bad team instead of a winning team.
  14. Rock on, dagies
  15. That was a lame pick-up line. If I looked that fine, do you think I'd be spending any time whatsoever on this board? I'd be admiring myself in front of a mirror all day & working in a strip club at night for the big bucks . I'm actually a guy & if others used similar images this board would be a lot busier Maybe have a "Battle of the Sexiest Avatars" to help pass time until the season starts... Don't really know specifics about Zapernick but I definitely remember the name. I was only 5 in '72 but I do remember going to a lot of the games then.
  16. You sure are winning over a lot of Sioux fans for your beerdart t-shirts. I take it you never majored in marketing in college; you have to worship, respect Sioux fans & our beloved hockey team if you want to have any shot at decent sales here.
  17. Probably whoever shows the most promise during training camp. Brandt better be prepared & have his summer "experience" behind him as Ziegelmann & Parise will probably be focused & wanting to crack the starting lineup.
  18. Cult followers like WPoS first need to be deprogrammed. POIers in particular are hardcore fanatics & certain steps need to be taken before they see the light: Step 1: Lure him away from his brainwashers. He must be separated from sites like POI where a constant stream of dribble can influence even the strongest of minds. Step 2: Corner him physically in a setting with at least 5 Sioux fans that can bring him back to reality. He should not be allowed to sleep for at least 2 days; this will break him down emotionally & is a key step in his recovery. Step 3: If his family members are not already brainwashed, they should also be a part of this thought breakdown as they know him best & know how to push his buttons. Step 4: After the false Gopher beliefs are washed from his memory, he should then be shown tape after tape of Sioux hockey highlights which will eventually reprogram him into the right way of thinking.
  19. Someone reported a few days ago (believe it was forecheck) that she heard via Ryan Connelly's girlfriend that he's left the program. Any official word on this yet &, if so, is Blais planning on filling this vacancy with an ultra late recruit?
  20. I understand your decision. When you say there's an interest for an "unmoderated forum", what exactly do you mean? Is that your lingo for a chat forum? If so, I thought there would still be a Big Brother element to it Just wondering.
  21. I was wondering why the administrator put a lock on the thread, "Schools to decide whether to use nicknames" in the Sioux Name forum. No one ever complained, at least publicly. People were discussing various aspects of Political Correctness, a belief system held by left-wing ideologues & the same group behind the name change. How should we have discussed this topic? By quoting recent Herald articles & nothing more? It's difficult to discuss an emotionally-charged topic & not give one's personal opinions at the same time. Besides, a good # of posts on this board are opinions & not just cold hard facts. Removing the political theme from that thread devalues it as the heart of the matter isn't being addressed: the group behind this name change. All the more reason for a separate chat forum where like-minded people can share their sentiments on a variety of current events.
  22. I think it's fair to say this putz is a Gopher fan. I know of no other WCHA school with such an insecure, attention-seeking fanbase (Greyeagle, sagard & a few others being the exception). Come onto a Sioux board, ruffle some feathers, act all innocent then sneak out the back door--typical Gopher m.o. Don't think NewGuy is Happy, though, as this guy is at least understandable & grammatically sound. Man, the season can't come soon enough
  23. Beer darts=hockey..Hmmm If the color logo you reference has anything UND on it I'll take 2
  24. I think it's important to consider whether candidates are pandering or not. I'm sure most, if not all, do; but in Dean's case he's so left it begs the question what his true agenda is. It sounds like he's exactly what he preaches. There's even talk that Bush will get off the fence & be more conservative if & when he's re-elected. If anyone wants an idea what would happen to this country economically (not to mention culturally) if it were liberally run, just look at CA. & their fiasco. Liberals are claiming the recall effort is a bad idea & unethical even though it's in their state constitution Back to your point, yeah, the groups he seems to cater to scare me a little. Black radicals, homosexuals & all the other "disenfranchised" groups; if he's not a socialist I'll run out onto the ice butt-naked during a soldout Sioux home game. Remember the little mantra that Jesse Jackson was chanting a few years ago? "Heeey hooo, heeey hooo, Western civilization has gotta go."
  25. Feeeeeeelings, whoooa whoooa feeeeeelings. Sorry, I couldn't resist I don't think Weber's departure should be underestimated. Any time a team loses a goalie with the 2nd-best GAA in school history & a NC under his belt is more than a small loss. Kollar, like Johnson, was a solid back-up goalie but we all know what happened when he became a starter. Not saying Johnson will tailspin like he did, but just like lawkota said, that's one more "if" & "maybe" & one less "fact" for them. Gophers should still finish 1st barring any other sudden departures. The Sioux D should be just fine this year. Remember that we had A. Schneekloth (the human pylon) during our back-2-back FF appearances & we were a goal away from repeating. Forwards will be very exciting to watch this year & perhaps Murray will elevate Parise's game even higher. I'm very high on Stafford after his recent jr. tryouts & believe he could maybe become a force his freshman year. Guys like Lundbohm, Massen, Prpich, McMahon should continue to climb; the only ?s will be if Connelly, Canady & Genoway climb out of their shells. Goaltending. Yeah, gotta believe & hope that there'll be a steady improvement in that area. I like Dean's proactive approach in bringing in 2 new guys. If the Sioux can find consistent goaltending & 4th-line scoring, the possibilities seem endless.
