  1. Yes. Notre Dame was part of the WCHA from 1971 to 1981 or thereabouts.
  2. I don't like the idea of facing DU again. Let's face it... DU should have won that game. They played better than us for longer periods of time. They basically owned all but the last 5 minutes or so of the first OT. They played Frattin as well as a team can. I know we were without Gregoire but still... I think we can go to the Championship game if we can get by DU... or if WMU pulls off a miracle and beats DU.
  3. It's an interesting prediction system.... but I wouldn't have Yale at 50% probability of beating Yale. I'd probably flip flop that. In my bracket, Yale gets beat by UMD and then goes on to face off vs. Notre Dame. They beat Notre Dame and face UND for the title.
  4. Late but not never.... I dislike Cooke with a passion and Daneyko is right when he says that Cooke and those who immitate them are the face of the "problem" inherit within the NHL today. HOWEVER, I disagree that injury is the best solution to the problem because, if Cooke is run and gets injured, then doesn't that action justify Daneyko's claim? The correct action would be to make repeat offenders receive over the top punishments... stuff that would send most fans through the roof and having the offender crying for justice. Example? Cooke concusses (illegally) another player this year after already doing it once (or twice)... he's suspended for the remainder of the season and postseason and fined variably based upon the final game total Pittsburgh plays... so, if Pittsburgh doesn't make the playoffs, Cooke pays less overall... if the Pens win the Cup and does so playing the maximum games necessary to do so, Cooke loses big time. OH YEAH, as the Coup de Grace, Cooke's name is removed from eligibility to be placed on the Cup should the Penguins, in my example, win the Cup the year he is suspended thusly. I'm going to have to think up an accompanying punishment for the team of the offender... A fine doesn't do it. In this case, the league would be getting plenty of money. Maybe some sort of roster penalty can be thought up... like being forced to dress one skater short? Over the top. But that'd send a message, no?
  5. I thought Ray Saigo got the ball rolling and Myles Brand saw it as the next "Bob Knight firing?"
  6. According to Chris Dilks, Aaron Johnson has HEAVY connections with UMD to begin with. If we did recruit him at all, I doubt it was serious. Reading in between the lines with this guy, he was UMD bound from the get go.
  7. Something tells me that he's too much of a weasel to man up to something like that.
  8. I doubt Cepis will get into many fights.... Cepis will fade into oblivion though. He doesn't have as good a stick as Earl had, so I doubt he'll even get a sniff at the NHL. What Cepis will notice is that his diving antics won't work as well as they did in the WCHA. He not only won't earn the penalties he got gifted while in the WCHA, he'll likely earn a benching or two. In any case, his offensive numbers will dip.
  9. Non-first or second rounders who have gone directly to the NHL within the last ten years (so drafted 2001 to 2010): Patrick Sharp played 3 games out of Vermont before inevitably being demoted to the minors, would that count? Christian Ehrloff played 41 games before first game in minors (or does DEL and German OBL count?) - 4th rounder Jordin Tootoo played 71 games out of Major Juniors - 4th rounder Or do you mean just collegiate players? Adam Burish (UW) played 9 games in the NHL before playing his first AHL game - 9th rounder Lee Stempniak (Dartmouth) played 51 games in the NHL before playing his first AHL game - 5th rounder Mike Lundin (Maine) played over 100 games in the NHL before seeing the AHL. He got sent down 21 games into his sophomore NHL year. He was a 4th rounder These are just 2001 - 2004 drafted players. But I see the point... Not many went straight to the NHL and stuck (none I listed did) but there are a lot who played at least 1 NHL game before playing in the minors.
  10. It's not quite that black and white regarding Free Agency. If Gregoire stays his senior year, he'll still be property of the Isles until August (IIRC) following his senior year. I may not be correct with the month but I'm VERY certain that the Isles, in this case, would retain the rights to Gregoire until after Gregoire would graduate.
  11. I'll go with this. However, I still think, unless something unbelievable happens, Miele will get the Hobey.
  12. This fact is why UND is so scary. We have more than one line that can score. I think if Kristo were healthy, we'd probably have 3. He was getting hot before the injury.
  13. I'm hoping that we can get some help in the advertising market. I'm rather tired of the same commercials every time... Rydell (and that humiliating idiocy they put their salespeople through), Dahlstrom Motors, American Tire, gosh... I'm repressing a few of them. The commercials are just old and lame.
  14. I was going to blame it on either those racist Republicans or Obama.
  15. FOr once, I agree with the NHL on the Fly blowhards: Montreal (and Quebec) needs to relax... but they won't. It kindof goes with the territory. For decades, they've always been the forgotten stepchild of Canada being overshadowed by Ontario, the governmental HQ of Canada, Alberta and BC, the more beautiful parts of Canada. Now this hit comes and Montreal sees it as a way to get more attention it so desperately craves. These moronic politicians and absolutely imbecilic law enforcement officials can do what they will but they make themselves look like absolute morons... which I guess they're fine with. Hopefully the police will see the light and drop the case. If not, fine. I hope they get their butts handed to them in court.
  16. I heard he did this out of a challenge made from the stands: That guy couldn't hit the broad side of a barn! Well, he one-upped the heckler by hitting the corner of a smaller building. Unfortunately it took an SUV to get the job done....
  17. I am actually in favor of getting rid of all automatic bids. It will eliminate the "Little sisters of the poor" argument and lead to the best situation of all: Playoffs. Why? Because then teams like BSU and TCU will get NC consideration and teams that are 6-6 will be doing the right thing: studying for finals or doing other things other than football. Weak teams will make Bowl berths and thus, kill the bowls even without the financial debacle going on. Then they'll start a playoff system and we'll be happy that there is a real #1 team. Just don't make the mistake the DI Basketball folks make: 165 teams make the NCAA tourney and if you are one of the 110 teams left out, you make the NIT. And let's just say if your record is .500 or worse, plan on spending Christmas and New Years at home with family.
  18. DaveK can have Crosby. I'll take Toews. Seriously, I know Crosby is injured but there is NO ONE playing better than Toews right now.
  19. I agree with this completely. I thought Frazee would waltz in and Briggs would spend at minimum the last half of his senior year watching the game in the best seats in the house. Of course, Frazee didn't pan out but still.... Briggs was NOT good. Neither was Hauser nor Weber. It's just how good the Gophers forwards were as well as their system that masked it. If you want an example now: Look at UW. Gudmanson is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT as good as his stats suggest. He just has a good D in front of him and a system that makes the whole thing work.
  20. No personal attacks. There are still comments left to make on this thread... I think. Not sure what your personal attacks will do to the thread.
  21. This is code for: FIRE HAKSTOL! Sorry, had to.
  22. It's now down down. Lucky it is intermission.
  23. Really sad to say that I'm no longer watching the game. The webcast is inop. It buffers then pixalates long enough to bring in audio then buffers again. I haven't been able to piece together 30 seconds of continuous hockey. It went bad right after MacWilliam's penalty. Came back long enough for me to see BSU players celebrating a goal and then went away.
  24. Well.... Commodore is available right now on waivers.
  25. Really? All you have to do is find the players fans here tend to like to hate and you'll find your list. Players I'd say are tradeable by the number of flak thrown at them: Danny Kristo Derrick LaPoint Mike Cichy Brad Eidsness Coach Hakstol... Brett Hextall The Untouchables: Jason Gregoire Chay Genoway Matt Frattin Brad Malone Jake Marto For me? I'd trade no one on D. I might be willing to trade Mike Cichy or Taylor Dickin for a 3rd liner perhaps with perhaps some potential scoring upside? Or perhaps the rights to a currently signed recruit.
