  1. Has anyone seen Adrian Peterson? Percy Harvin? Anyone? Does Musgrave even know that they are on the Vikings?
  2. I'm kindof surprised Luke Johnson committed to UND. I thought Steve and UND didn't have much of a positive relationship as of late?
  3. Hmmm... If I were the media, I'd pray (sorry no pun intended yet) for the following scenario: Rocco Grimaldi scores an OT Game Winning Goal. Headline? Grimaldi administers Last Rites to <team>
  4. I read the goaltenders weren't really tested. I also read that Maris got one save. Did Eids make any saves?
  5. I think Notre Dame is consistent. They tried to pull the same garbage with the Big 10 in football. They want their cake and eat it too. I can't blame them. Most of the schools in the realignment news have acted the same or similarly. But where the line is drawn is when you can swallow some of your greed for the good of whatever conference you are trying or wish to join. Texas wanted, at one point, to join the Pac 12 and the Big 10 but they probably got similar stories from both of them: You cannot be the top dog in our conference with your own tv deal and the conference commissioner at your beck and call. So, instead of just going independent (which I thought Texas was going to do), they axed the Longhorn Network and agreed to the Oklahoma stipulation that the Big 12 commissioner, long known for being in Texas' pocket (basically), resign. It looks like Texas "settled" for the Big 12, but in fact, the Big 10 doesn't look so great and the PAC 12 is still forgotten by the most prominent National Sports media (ESPN is too busy revelling in the SEC). Notre Dame likes to believe they are relevant and desired because of their historic program when in fact they are wanted because of how well their fanbase travels and their branding/marketing presence. Their football hasn't been relevant since the late '80s and their hockey program, though somewhat on the upward slope, hasn't been bigtime really yet. At this point, without Notre Dame swallowing their egos a bit, it will be HEA or independent. I'm hoping Independent because then (hopefully) Notre Dame will realize that college hockey isn't college football. And you'll see the Notre Dame program flounder.
  6. Maybe a bit off topic but... There is a free and a $4.99 app for Fighting Sioux Athletics. I'm curious if anyone bought the app could tell me what you get with the paid app that you don't get with the free one?
  7. I couldn't agree more, but each of the teams I mentioned have weird circumstances. Indy: Peyton Manning is this team. The last time I saw a team like this was the Steve Young-led 49ers. When Young went away... uh... anyone see San Fran around? Cincy: Stupid owner. Almost giving Al Davis a run for his money. STL: Got their QB and are finally using their RBs like they should. No pass catchers. Very young. Getting better though. Hard to be excited for them when they are in the worst division in probably the entire realm of professional sports and cannot put together a winning record. KC: No coaching. Wies coaches offense last year and they cannot be beat. He's gone and their defense is exposed. This isn't a personnel problem (on offense anyways). You don't have the same personnel go from great to suck like this. Minnesota: They lost Sidney Rice to free agency. They don't give a damn about Percy Harvin and barely care about Adrian Peterson. They are two players away from being contenders basically but they're getting out drafted by Detroit and out talented by Green Bay. McNabb is the right choice to start at QB unless you want to get Luck...which you start Ponder. Sorry guys. i watched Ponder at FSU and he was alright. He's not top 15. That being said, I can't believe that Locker went as high as he did either. Seattle: Wow. I don't think you can make up as bad a QB tandem as Seattle has. TSuck isn't an NFL QB and Whitehurst is a career backup. If you are going to be this shoddy at that position you should have kept Seneca Wallace. If Seattle doesn't get Andrew Luck, they'll get Landry Jones.
  8. He has faith in his Defense. The problem is.... after #69, there is no pass rush. And then your corners and safeties are only mediocre at best. So... Time outs would merely have delayed the inevitable. In the second half this year, your corners have looked downright lost. I don't think McNabb is useless. I think their playcalling is. Adrian Peterson needs the ball more. It's not like they're always playing from behind. They've had the lead in all three games iirc. He's the best back in the league. I honestly don't think you have much in the way of Wide Receiver so...
  9. And now you have all the younger folk scrambling to Dictionary.com to look up the word "halcyon." Kudos.
  10. First off, The Vikings look sad. It's almost like they're only conditioned to play until Halftime. They come out of the second half and their entire secondary simply stops playing. I'm not impressed at all with the Vikings as much as I'm unimpressed at how poor the entire NFL is at pass D. Secondly, Tom Brady threw 4 INT's.... and just missed 400 yds passing. IIRC, he's already over 1000 yards passing despite this week. Marino might indeed see his record broken. The problem is, the Patriot Defense is atrocious. They have a Super Bowl caliber offense. No one can stop Brady (he stopped himself with 2 of those INT's. The others were simply lucky ricochets), Gonkowski (or however you spell their TE's name) is simply a machine. Welker is playing 5 years younger than he is. I still dislike BenJarvus Green-Ellis. My irrational rule of "anyone who has four names cannot be likeable" is in full swing there. Thirdly, the Eagles got bitten by the big mouth of a player who has a history of having a big mouth: Vince Young. Believe it or not, Young wasn't chased out of Tennessee because of his rather average play. He was run out of town because his mouth and his attitude were detrimental to the team. It cost people their jobs until their owner, a tried and true UTexas fan, finally said "enough is enough." They were never the dream team in truth. They made a big splash with signing those corners, but they neglected their linebackers. Seriously, they're inverse of the Vikings defense. Put the Vikings linebackers with the Eagles secondary, and the Eagles aren't 1-2. Ok ok, and add to the fact that the Eagles offensive line is about as effective as the Bears' O-Line and you have your problems. The Eagles aren't a Super Bowl team. Sorry Philly fans. Not at this point anyways. And to make matters worse, they're killing my fantasy football team. I have Vick and the Eagles' D. I wish I had McCoy and Detroit or Houston's D (even though New Orleans destroyed them). Lastly: Who does everyone think is, after Week 3, the best situated to draft Andrew Luck: Cincinnati Seattle Kansas City Indianapolis St. Louis Minnesota someone else? P.S. Add to my list Buffalo and Oakland as being WTF teams this year.
  11. Their pass rush has been a bit suspect. The flip side is... their pass coverage has been... no wait... What's saved the Pack this year thus far has been turnovers and red zone defense. The problem for the Pack has been.... they basically let the team move the ball almost at will until they reach the red zone. Starks had a good season at RB.... until he faced the Bears. Grant has been a nonfactor most of the season. The Packers are trying to run the ball more even when passing seems to work. They are finally getting the ball to Finley which will help Jennings and Nelson as well. On offense, their weakness is penalties and most of those come off of the offensive line being only slightly above average (which is the lowest ranking their offense has). They're still the team to beat in the NFC Central. In other news: Holy Crap... are we sure that San Francisco is 2-1, Detroit and Washington are UNDEFEATED, Tom Brady threw FOUR INT's, and the "Dream Team" (I vomited a little) is at the bottom of their conference? Early though the season is, there's a helluva lot of storylines developing.
  12. I'm with Sica on this. I think we should link in with USA Hockey Official Development Program. I'm also very interested in who might they get to lead the officials. Will they make a big splash, such as going after perhaps a former NHL official if that person wanted to try out the administrative side of the game (such as Bill McCreary just retired)? Will they go with someone who is already in the field at some level (such as the head of officials for the USHL or perhaps an assistant head of officials for the AHL or even NHL if there is one?)? Or will they hire me, aka somebody completely out of left field? I hope beyond hope that there are NO WCHA followers into the NCHC officiating wise. We can't go back in time to get the good Campion (pre-ACL tear). Oh hey, what about bringing Mike Schmitt out of retirement to do the job? He seemed like a decent WCHA official back in the day.... We could hire Randy Schmidt to be the head custodian?
  13. That's about right. Only the more veteran posters here know PCM. This one can't remember why he left, but I heard it wasn't exactly a positive experience or grouping of experiences that led to PCM leaving SS.com. Could be wrong though.
  14. Sica- Any word on former "Sioux" Mapletoft?
  15. This just in: Tavaris Jackson has found his niche! TJack, known to some as TSuck, has found his home in Seattle. His role? Helping Seattle get the first pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Seattle isn't the only team with QB issues so it will be a struggle. Their chief rivals include Miami, San Francisco, Washington, and perhaps Cincinatti and even Carolina! Don't worry. Vikings fans know, when TJack really pushes himself hard, he can be as mediocre as the best of them! Go TSuck Go. Suck like you've never sucked before (that'll be something!)
  16. I read somewhere that the scientist that is mainly attributed to being the main authority on global warming was also the same guy who, in the 1970s (IIRC) who was calling the alarm out for Global Cooling. In the end, what I began to believe is that you don't allow alarmists towards any of the major repetitive events or environmental factors that have had a historical tendency to imitate, when graphed out, a sine wave. Temperature and Climate cycles are one of these sine waves. Sure, we affect it, but not to the extent that the alarmists speak of. And by the way, I've yet to review other countries outside the U.S.'s environmental laws. Maybe because I can't find them online. Ours is a novel sized document. I wonder what Russia and China's are like? Maybe the environmentalists should attack the countries that aren't writing books after books on laws and other ways to restrict how businesses do business and how those businesses can affect the environment they are in. If that doesn't work, we can immediately improve our environment and its policy by doing away with California. 1 reason would be we get rid of the smog infested Californian cities such as LA. 2nd reason is that we get rid of the looniest environmentalists. Sure, that still leaves the Pacific Northwest, but their population base isn't as large and I think we could easily marginalize them.
  17. I travel and play a lot of golf. Too late for this year but... I found a program in Omaha that, if I volunteer at the course 8 hours a week I get... 1. Discounts on merchandise (big whoop can't afford it anyways) 2. 15 free rounds of golf (18 holes max per round) a month 3. Free driving range use 4. Free practice holes (they have a 3 hole practice hole course) And they own two 18 hole golf courses so I can use these perks at both sites. Oh, and if I don't call ahead and just walk in and there's an opening, it doesn't count towards my 15 a month. Methinks I'm gonna do a ton of golf next summer. BTW - I'm not claiming that other courses don't have similar programs. I'm just claiming I found one dumb enough to let me do it next season.
  18. I think Star is right on. It would not surprise me at all that, if UAF goes to the WCHA to see those three programs fold. And as soon as they do, we can get on with our usual lives: Blaming UND for everything.
  19. 16. CHL fans are very passionate. In fact, some of the more vocal ones tend to come across so arrogant that they make Minnesota trolls look like saints. Overall, I tend to sum up CHL vs. NCAA like this: NCAA fans love the NCAA. CHL fans love the CHL. CHL fans think that the best alternative to the CHL is the NCAA for those who want to do something other than play in the NHL. NCAA fans see that both routes produce NHLers and that regardless of whatever it comes down to, both routes can take a top tier talent and turn them into a prized NHL prospect. Both sides think they are right and neither side is willing to truly acknowledge the other as being legit without getting the final word in that their respective league is just a better way to go. So, just don't debate it and smile and nod.
  20. My captains are: Lammy - C Blood - A Macwilliam -A I agree that Knight will probably get the last A, but I wanted to be a bit different.
  21. I noticed that he had something like 30 assists last year. But I'm not sure how it will pan out in the NCAA. LaPoint had monster USHL years offensively and when he got to UND, it pretty much disappeared. Sure, he turned out to be valuable in other areas (like one of the best PK Defensemen on the team), but you never know. There are always surprises. I think it will come to Gleason, Simpson, and Forbort (forgot Simpson in my first post) to carry the load. Anything we can get from Mattson will be bonus. Then when Schwartz comes, we'll be fine. He looks to be another puck mover ala Genoway.
  22. So here is how I feel (hope) things will shake out (only listing WCHA, NCHC, and CCHA teams. We all know who the BTHC are): Scenario A: NCHC UND DU CC WMU ND UMD UNO Miami WCHA NMU SCSU BSU MSU Mankato UAA MTU CCHA UAF FSU LSSU BGSU UAH RIT/Niagara Scenario B (Notre Dame goes HEA): NCHC UND DU WMU CC UMD Miami UNO BSU WCHA NMU MSU Mankato UAA MTU SCSU MSU Moorhead? CCHA Same as Situation A Ok, here are the two sticking points: 1. BSU in the NCHC: Small school with hockey being its only DI sport. I'm not sure how well BSU fits in most categories but I do know that BSU's relationship with some of the NCHC members are very strong. They have the new facilities that make the site attractive. Also, though they are small market (extremely small), they are pretty much a hockey market. Any of the NCHC teams go to Bemidji, they'll sell out. BSU fans travel relatively well all things considered. SCSU makes a better choice, but their administration has made it known that they're rather an unattractive option from that standpoint. 2. MSU Moorhead in the WCHA: This isn't a given. They want to, but if wants were wishes and wishes were nickels, the state of Minnesota wouldn't be in financial crisis mode. Gosh, I just don't see them getting it done. Or perhaps getting it done but being unable to maintain it. It's a VERY risky option. Notre Dame to the Hockey East isn't as far fetched as we'd all like it to believe. There are a LOT of things pulling them that direction. There are less powerhouses in Hockey East than in the NCHC so there is a chance that Notre Dame could perrenially be among the top of that division more often than the talent rich NCHC. I'm not saying HEA is weak, but they have more "weak" teams in it than the NCHC. Also, Notre Dame, with the exception of football, competes with most of the HEA teams that are in DI in other sports (Big East Conference). They have a natural rival in the HEA in BC, where they only have Miami and perhaps WMU in the NCHC. Good rivals, sure, but not as strong as the one with BC. My hunch says that Notre Dame is leaning HEA 60%. I would not be shocked at all of they went HEA.
  23. I'm still not all that concerned with our offense. Hak's system has been proven to work... we just need it to happen at the right time in the playoffs and we're in like Flynn. Anyways, my main concern is offense from the point, especially 5 on 5. I know I'm being redundant but... Genoway and Marto are gone. LaPoint is gone as well. What I feel we are missing is offensive defensemen. Sure, Forbort has the skill set. Gleason does too. But really... is Gleason going to play D or Forward this year? I see that defensively, we're going to be just fine. MacWilliam, Blood, and all will lead the way in that department and I hear Mattson is no slouch in his own end either. This leaves Forbort. So, I see a lot resting on him this year. Every season surprises me on something... like how much offense we've been able to generate short handed, as an example. So I expect to be surprised somewhere along the line. Hopefully it will be in this category and in a positive manner.
