  1. Whew! That's a load off my mind! It would have been most curious to waive a player that is coming off of a 40 point season. Espeically if it is a defenseman. Well, we'll see if Curtis is taken in the draft or what will happen to him. It surprises me to see Nashville trade for him and then let him go.
  2. Today the Ottawa Senators made Andy Schneider available on the waiver draft. I wonder what that means for him. Jason Blake appeared on the protected list, but Andy's name is the only one on the available list from UND.
  3. Just thought to say.... How about next year having a Wild v. Devils exhibition game?
  4. Two players are holding out? Who is the other one? Marion Gaborik and who?
  5. Did the NCAA say that the student section cannot surround the camera or did the AD say that? If the NCAA said that, then what is going to happen with all those arenas where the student section is directly behind the net? Regardless, dreams of the student section being directly behind the opponent's net have pretty much been dashed. Pity
  6. Wouldn't work. CHA, Atlantic, and ECAC all stars may make up one team if combined. Also, it would be humiliating and a joke as WCHA all stars would make them look like the exhibition of the Pee Wee kids at the Ralph last night. Scating around and not getting a single chance on goal. In other words, The players would change but the results would be the same.
  7. Actually, this is why I think the Wild aren't a Stanley Cup contender. Yeah, they have heart and they do have a lot of good roleplayers, but they have only one true offensive threat. Take him out and you have a middle of the road team. They need someone to step up and take charge or they might as well get used to the fact that this year will be disappointing until the draft, where they will be able to pick higher
  8. Ack! It wasn't Kuba. It was Brad Brown (#4)
  9. It was Kuba because he got penalized for hooking. And Panzer wasn't the only Sioux that started. Baron also started. It was interesting that St Louis started most of the Sioux in their lineup (Ryan Johnson was the only one who didn't start) and the Wild started none. And the two shots I saw Al shoot both went on goal. I didn't see the puck, I saw Roloson covering the puck both times. Actually, the second time he didn't cover it. I remember him talking to a ref for some reason. I'm very sure, however, that both shots hit Roloson, though. Mellanby's goal was simply bad defense by the Wild. Tkachuk was behind the Wild net and sent the puck to Mellanby who was just inside of the faceoff circle. He shot it in to Roloson's left top shelf I think.
  10. I agree with everyone so far. Anyone please! Brown, Manitoba, whatever. We need it to be a tourney where there is a possibility anything could happen. Not a possibility that the opponent's defense will be able to keep the Sioux under a dozen goals. Hell, with Manitoba, I could have looked good on the ice and I can't even ice skate! Heh. Maybe I should just grow my hair long and go join Canisius.
  11. It's my understanding that at least one team from every conference is automatically invited to participate in the NCAA regionals. Usually, it is the winner of the tourney that it holds, or is it just whoever wins the regular season gets the auto-bid? Curious to see whether MAAC (now known as Atlantic Hockey) will still get the bid.
  12. 9-13 year old girl. We're getting in the "ballpark"
  13. Neither of them scored. Sejna got a penalty. Don't think any of them got a shot on goal. Panzer was on the ice a lot, but never for any prolonged period of time. I'll tell you folks, it was like Sioux hockey last year in the second half minus the shots. A lot of icing, pure defensive hockey from the Wild and no offensive output. It was, however, really cool watching Bombardir totally take a guy out with a clothesline from hell. Yeah, he got penalized, but it was really cool. Also, a Wild player knocked Pronger on his a$$ In unrelated praise, Osgood had two really good saves and I got to see two straight Al MacInnis slap shots. Gaoltending was good on both sides, but Roloson was making better saves because the Blues were picking their shots. Testimony how good Roloson played is that there were only 2 goals scored (Rycroft and Mellanby) And no, Roche definitely did not play.
  14. There are serious ramifications for Mr. Heatley.... depending upon the situation in court. However, since he's a superstar in Atlanta, I am not going to take the risk in saying that he's going to do jail time. He'll probably plea no contest, pay a fine of some sort, attend defensive driving coursework, and 1-2 years of community service. Something like that. What they should do is sentence him to college to finish his degree (if he hasn't already). If he did, then he should be sentenced to grad school
  15. I think the lady you refer to was a 9 year old little girl at an Atlanta Thrashers game. It was her first NHL game and it could have been her first hockey game ever. Don't know much more about it than that. It was tragic. But the reality is this: Whether the fans should be watching or not, the Ralph nor UND wants to be financially responsible for a tragedy directly resulting from play on the ice or play coming off of it. Tragedies happen and I realize that it is something everyone wishes to prevent, but prevention has become the primary focus at the games for the administration. PR and entertainment is a close second. Do I think this is right? I dont know. I think it is how it has to be regardless of how I feel about it.
  16. I would venture to agree with Parise that he was worn down last season. It's a lot of work to try to wiggle your way out of the boards when some big brute from the other team is holding you against it continuously. Maybe the refs will help us out by enforcing a rule called "holding" or "Obstruction-Holding" but let's not get our hopes up. I got what was needed out of the context of the story. It doesn't bother me very much.
  17. I am not sure, and someone can look up the stats, but I think most of Maine's losses come against unranked opponents. Providence gave them fits. If you ask me, the Sioux and Maine should have had the same rank nationally last season because we both had a tenacity for losing games we shouldn't have had. We lost to the Gophers, they lost to BC.
  18. Because it's damn cold here 9 months out of the year! I forgot about the blimps. I heard you get in big trouble if you damage one of those things. However, I haven't met a single person who wouldn't want to pop them or at least damage them beyond repair. The ONLY redeeming quality was for the 30 seconds to 5 minutes when they attached a Wookiee warning sign to one of them. Otherwise, they are merely jokes. Even the "Prizes" they drop are jokes.
  19. I'm surprised everyone is surprised by the quote. After all, wasn't the past time last season taking Blais' quotes out of context? He supposedly did this, he supposedly said that. He said this but it was taken from a speech that said that and this. Status quo. After all, if you have everyone misquoting you, that means they have to seek you out to hear you speak. That means you are popular and that you have status. Then again, you have Woog, which blows that theory out of the water
  20. Ok, so I was wrong, but any way you cut it, the land's gonna get dug up.
  21. How about the Randall Simon incident with the sausage races? Polar Bear running around and gets thwacked with a hockey stick Seriously though, if it doesn't represent the Sioux, who cares? Stupid mascot, yay. If anything, it's a cute furry creature meant to distract the fans with loose wallets while the concessions people pillage and loot. Actually, I'm not so sure how successful it will be if it ventures into the student section. My bet is that, during the regular season, it won't venture too far into the student section. It's not the mascot's audience anyways. BTW- Who says the mascot is being "operated" by a male anyways? More and more mascots are female, you know. Especially regional mascots. So, stupid or not, give it some space folks.
  22. The field north of the stadium is closed off because construction is supposed to start on the basketball/volleyball addition to the Ralph, I think. It's really silly that it is like that because, well, in 2 weeks there will be snow on the ground. Mark my words. I say screw it and close off construction for the winter. Let the North field get used for parking. If the grass gets ruined who cares. It's going to get dug up anyways.
  23. Brown, Mercyhurst, Bemidji State... Wow. Next thing you know, UND Intramural hockey team will get a vote It is nice to see that Maine is finally in an area of the polls that is more suitable for their talent. Last season, as far as regular season performance is concerned, Maine was the most overrated team on the ice. Of course, post season honors for that distinction went to UNH I agree with most of the poll, but I'd still say we should be #4 and UNH #5
  24. Maybe that's why Woog is a commentator and not a coach anymore. Too much of a wannabe who has too much smoke and not enough talent to put it into practice. My preseason pump up has gotten so high that I am actually anxious to watch Woog and whoever else sits with him talk hockey again. Even though they'll probably get right to kissing up to MN players right away instead of calling the game like they usually do. (BTW- I don't recall who was coaching MN between 1995 and 2000, but after listening to Woog talk on the TV, there's no doubt in my mind why MN pursued Lucia)
  25. Vollrath I believe is a Defenseman from GF Central High. Walk on. Probably will get no ice time. If he does, it will be in the games that you can expect a blow out in... unfortunately this season doesn't look to have them. The only game I would guess he'd appear in is the exhibition with the U-18 NTDP game.
