  1. I heard the Cool Runnings Jamaican Hockey team has the best odds in Vegas to beat Maine this year! Watch out WCHA!
  2. Why not hold it at one of the high schools? Fargo South and North High have decent rinks? As for the FargoDome, it's not a possibility unless we truck down the equipment to make the ice and maintain it from GF. They don't have the equipment to do it. Yes, they do have the Stars on Ice and assorted family ice programming, but those programs truck all the equipment with them.
  3. INCH had most of the players accurate, but again, with the Hobey thread, I question: Noah Welch as first team and Andy Schneider only good enough for 3rd team? Noah Welch's production was good enough to make the list, don't get me wrong, but maybe as 2nd or 3rd team. Not first. If not Andy Schneider on first team, it should be Thomas Pock. 17 goals and 20 assists is pretty good for a Dman. I wish I could see him play. INCH has a lot of work to do to make it credible. I think the first thing they do is get their information from someone who is based west of Michigan.
  4. Wouldn't let me open the story
  5. Argh that sucks! 5:30? Man, I have class. Can't skip it either. Hopefully PCM or someone will post a nice fan-friendly scouting report (both good and bad) of what they saw. I'll need it. I'm already frothing at the mouth for hockey.
  6. I agree with MinnesotaNorthStar and I'd like to make a few additions. First, look at fanbase. True, the WCHA has a lot of fans, but they don't have the population to compete with some if not most of the New England teams. Market area defines favoritism, especially when it comes to media coverage. More fans and potential fans out east, therefore slighted towards them to boost readership and ratings. Does it mean it is objective? Nope. Not in the least, but it doesn't matter as long as it is what gets the most "butts in the seats" or eyes on the screen... whatever. Business is business. Objectivity, just like the plain truth, doesn't sell.
  7. After listening to the audio clip from Roche, I noticed that it is the last year of his contract with the Wild. So, if the Wild are high on him, we'll know after this season. If he doesn't get resigned, then the Wild weren't really high on him.
  8. Hell, Nick Fuher had more goals and only 5 less assists.
  9. Noah Welch. Wow. If 6 goals and 22 assists qualifies you for the Hobey, then I think that Schneider should get on the list. I admit 22 assists is a respectable number, but comon. 6 goals, 22 assists for Noah. 11 goals, 30 assists for Schneider. Yep. By simple comparison, Noah gets an "attaboy" and Andy gets the nod. Stats courtesy of fightingsioux.com However, of course, if there is something other than production and leadership that is considered for Hobey, then maybe Noah does deserve it. Otherwise, It's Ballard or Schneider by those numbers.
  10. I'm just thinking that if we score on us..... does that mean we are good or bad? We scored and we let in a goal. It's almost a headache thinking about it.
  11. Ummmmmmmmm..... I think every big team has a certain amount of belligerent fans. I know that I am a mild mannered, polite, bastion of goodness out of the arena, but drop the puck and I turn into Henry Rollins It is to be expected for fans to stand up for their team, but I expect it to be done with tolerance. Before that UMD fan posted, no one questioned whether or not UMD was competitive. I remember when we were at the Old Ralph during UMD's off years (pre-Sandalin). We used to scoff at them like we scoff at Wisconsin and UAA nowadays. If I were a UMD fan, I'd certainly take pride in last year. Remember they did get "boned" (heh, pun baby!) in the post season. I don't think they have the defensemen UND has. I don't think they have the explosive offense UM has. But they have the goaltending both UND and UM would love to have. So it is really anyone's guess. Bash away if you want from both sides, but bear in mind that a team that goes from the cellar to respectable in one year deserves a little respect at the least regardless of whether or not they have an NC under their belts. And if it was all talk, we'd just yell "Gopher Rejects" over the boards all day and act like spoiled children.
  12. I didn't know they allowed people to view practice. When I returned to UND last year, they wouldn't let us down to ice level because of practice. It'd be neat to watch them practice. So another question: If there is an intra team scrimmage type mock game, who does one root for?
  13. $1000 Thanks for the new wardrobe. No, seriously, student season tickets cost $60 including tax. If you paid for your friend's ticket, you were charged $120 or $60 for each.
  14. Recently on ESPN.com, they reported in the transactions page that Schneekloth and Skaparud were reassigned. That's all they said so I am assuming they were reassigned back to their ECHL teams. Though, I could be mistaken. They were not released or cut, so does that mean that they report to their ECHL teams as a recruit of the Red Wings or does it mean that they just did good and were sent back?
  15. This thread is so old I don't remember my top three. I'm an old man. Superman, you can quote me, I may be a UND fan but only a fool would turn his back on possibly the best if, at worst, one of the best returning goaltenders in the WCHA. UMD will upset someone this year. Will it be UND? Will it be UM? Who knows. I just hope UND makes it far this year. Just some historical context: The last time I watched an entire season when I was graduating at the end of the year, the Sioux won it all. I graduated the first time (don't ask) in May 2000 That statistic only matters if you work for ESPN.
  16. Now this is unconfirmed, but in regards to concern over the seats which we signed up for during games that are not part of the package: I was told that notification will be given to those ticketholders and priority will be given to them for those games and all tournement games. However, price for them? I don't know. Hope that makes sense
  17. Greyeagle, I think Siembida is available. As is Sofie. What does the UM fanship think about the Weber situation? Will he return? Also, does he lose this year's eligibility if he decides to return next year?
  18. I'm not sure your views on Virg Foss, but regardless, I have been told by a reliable source that he is a good authority on the history of the Farce. I'm sure you can contact him. He works for the Grand Forks Herald, but I don't have contact info. As much as it hurts to say this: I think the Farce, as it was, is truly "dead." Recreating it may be a possibility, but I don't think it will be close to the same. Also, if alcohol is part of the routine, you can count UND out of endorsing it. Possibily not even the REA would either. They are quite anal about that.
  19. As for the best goaltender duo/trio, I would not be able to tell you under the guidelines of this poll because I took care not to include incomming freshmen. However, from last season's stats, I would have to say UMD, DU, and MSU-M had good duos. Overall, I'd say DU had the best duo. I was almost sure that Denver would knock us off in the WCHA tourney. UND obviously did not. Teams like UM and CC, however, I don't know about. I never saw who backed up McElhinney. UM was almost entirely Weber all year long except for a short bout with Johnson at the helm. For the folks at UM on this board, what's the word on your freshman, Briggs? As for the Weber comments, I didn't know about his family's health situation. Sorry.
  20. Let's face it folks, I was luckier than Federov. Probably luckier than anyone else on this forum because of forecheck's assistance. Yes, what I did caused me an ethical dilemma and it was unfair to a lot of people, but I see it this way: this is the last year I'll have the ability to attend Sioux games. Probably for the rest of my life. I go to student teach next fall and I graduate in December. Therefore, there will be no next year at Camp Ralph for me. I also had to be in Minot on Friday and Saturday to give a professional talk. So, maybe I didn't deserve the courtesy I recieved, but I got it. Thanks to everyone who let me fulfill my goal of getting season tickets before I graduated. I have been unsuccessful since the new Ralph opened until now. Thanks. I'm sitting in Row F of 108
  21. When does bravery become stupidity? Is that like rooting for Alaska or MTU to win it all? Or perhaps Bemidji State
  22. Ummm I was 10 when Balfour came to UND. I didn't like hockey at the time. What can I say? I was ignorant of the true glory of a real sport. It changed, trust me. That's why I was supportive of Ellsworth. True, his /stats/ don't stack up to it, but I wonder what it would have been like if Ellsworth wore a Sioux jersey? I highly doubt it would have been that bad. For some reason, MTU attracts some decent goaltenders and they cannot recruit a defenseman to save their hides. Even the Wookiee wouldn't save them... if the Wookiee could skate, play defense, stick handle... Reichmuth, Burkhoel, and McElhinney are the top three for sure in my mind (and not in that order either). They show their talent time and time again throughout every season (whether it is one for Reichmuth or 2 for the other two.. or is it 3 for Burkhoel?) and they are consistent. I think the others would be nearly as good as these goaltenders if they were more consistent. I'm REALLY excited to get this season underway. I have to see how all the goalies and their teams do!
  23. Since Siembida is now considered a former player, does anyone know what happened to him? I think he's too old for juniors so did he transfer to a DII or DIII college? Did he quit hockey altogether?
  24. Was away from UND and hockey when he was a Sioux so, unfortunately, no. No, I haven't. Too bad for me.
  25. It's really surprising to see that Reichmuth is leading the poll. He's a good goalie, don't get me wrong, but where does this put CC? McElhinney manhandled the Sioux pretty darn good. Not only that, he did pretty well against the Gophers too, except in the Final Five. As for Al Montoya, this guy is the real deal. I've never seen a freshman goaltender go to the Frozen Four as a starter. He nearly beat the Gophers, regardless of the score. Problem is for him, the Wolverines don't have the offense of the Gophers. Even one goal is a damaging lead last season. I look for Michigan to be a sure bet in this season's Frozen Four. As for HE, I don't care. They'll lose anyways. ECAC is no factor. And who's going to go from the WCHA is a different thread.
