  1. As far as Shattuck is concerned, I'm really interested in Toews and Novotny. Novotny looks to be a pretty talented player on paper. I'd LOVE to watch him play and see what he brings to the table.
  2. Watched the game. One HELLUVA comeback. Implications were HUGE. Teams like Texas, Florida, and all were hoping for an RU victory and an RU victory basically eliminates Louisville from BCS Contention. Amazing win by Rutgers. Key TV Moment: Last 3 minutes of the game where the ESPN announcers were basically silent because they were so busy trying to find out as much as they could about what was "supposed" to be an 'also ran.' It brought back memories of the 2000 Frozen Four NC matchup where ESPN basically did everything except project BC the winner and left UND to be the "oh by the way." In other words, it was an INSTANT classic for ESPN broadcasters.
  3. Shocking that he left UW but it also sheds a lot of light on attitude. Nigel probably thought he was going to come in and be a central figure on the blue line right away. Well, better his wakeup call come at UW than at NHL. I wonder if this is the reason why his draft stock fell from being a mid first round projection to getting drafted in the middle of the 2nd round?
  4. I agree. It's really silly that the "homegrown talent" argument is still overtaking the top talent argument around here. It was the argument used to argue Phil should have been starting over Jordan Parise and why Walski should be starting instead of Grieco. Please. Moreland was a recruited walk on for the Sioux like Todd Alexander. There was never any guarantee that he'd get any playing time. Some players, like Ryan Sofie and more than likely Aaron Walski, accepted that. Others, like Moreland, tried to get more playing time to see if he could garner more interest. If Moreland cannot catch on with the Sioux, I hope Hakstol has made it clear to him that Moreland can look around. I think, if nothing else, he'd make a good fit at a place like Concordia or Norwich, or St. Norberts, or perhaps some CHA or AHA teams.
  5. And so it begins....
  6. When I saw the thread title, something similar to this was what I was expecting.
  7. You can also see a lot (if not all of Parise's goals this year and last) on that site too. Unfortunately, most of the video feeds aren't very good quality. One of them, for example, you don't see how he scored, only that he did.
  8. Not anymore. According to Heisenberg, he committed to Northeastern.
  9. They said that in 2004. I'm not convinced that the GOP is truly in as much trouble as the media is making it out to be. We'll see tommorrow or early Wednesday I guess.
  10. Ditto here. I didn't take it too seriously.
  11. Very well put, Sic.
  12. Why is it that it seems as though if we are pro-nickname, we are not mature? Seriously, I don't like either side saying "I don't like you because you don't agree with my opinion." That's rather immature in itself and, sorry, undsportsfan, it isn't just coming out of the pro-nickname side of the argument. And, no one thus far has said they don't like you. Unless Jim Dahl (the mod) has anything different to say about this, I believe it has been proven that it was Gary LaPointe. Whether you believe it or not, Sioux-cia isn't one to lie about such things. I don't recall a scholarship only for african americans. However, the point is valid in ONE certain respect: In a country where every organization is screaming "We treat everyone equally" there seems to be starting an opinion that some ethnicities, religions, and such are "more equal." Native Americans aren't being ridiculed for being Native Americans. They are in a bad way right now. I feel bad for them. Here's where cultures collide. I don't think Native Americans should strive to support each other. They should strive to support THEMSELVES. If they say "enough is enough" as a society and start working for themselves, they won't need government or casino handouts. They won't need people leaving the reservation to build enough money to return one day and make improvements. For however long there is someone out there willing to give away everything they need to survive at the cost of someone else's penny, there will be no incentive for improvement. This is not a Native American problem, though, this is an American problem. It just seems more visible with Native Americans (media? I don't know who's to blame for that). I never stated that the government was trying to make things right. I stated that things have slowly gotten better for minorities (of which Native Americans are one) over the past 40 years. They now have equal rights under the law, have more access to education and employment should they decide to try to do it, than ever before. Is it perfect? No, it's not. Is it better than it was 40 years ago? I defy you to tell me how it was better in the 1950s or earlier. Chances are, it wasn't. A sad story, for sure, but I still fail to see how the nickname is responsible for this or even a part of it. And I don't believe anyone here is trying to do that. I can appreciate your stance even if I don't believe in it, but there are some things that simply aren't worth fighting over. There is so much to improve in the lives of the Native Americans that this whole issue hardly seems worthy of the time. I'd rather see economic development in reservations or improvement in health care for Native Americans than an elimination of names from the walls of buildings and T-shirts.
  13. Tallied some stuff up. Chris Porter has an outside chance to get WCHA Offensive Player of the Week with his 2g, 1a performance this weekend. His goals were a game winner and a game tying goal respectively. More likely, though, the WCHA will spread the award around and give it to Travis Morin of MSU Mankato (1g 3a leads the WCHA in points this weekend). Also, Anthony Grieco will probably get an Honorable Mention this week in Freshman POTW. He gave up only 3 goals on 53 shots this weekend (only Matt Zaba did better.. he faced the same amount of shots and gave up only 2 goals). MOre likely though, they'll either give it to UMD forward Jordan Fulton or once again to Kyle Okposo. Both had 3 point weekends. EDIT: Or they could do something entirely different. It's not all that unusual to see them go an entirely different direction.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with you on this one. First off, Mankato is a decent team, but still a bottom tier one, that much is true. But most of the nine Grieco gave up were PP goals. How many 5x5 goals did he give up that weekend? 2? Our PK was AWFUL that weekend. Let's not lump all those goals on Grieco. Remember, defense is a TEAM effort, not just the goaltender. SCSU is a top tier team and, yeah, depth is an issue with them, but they have a great goaltender (two actually) and a coaching staff that knows what the heck they are talking about (first for them since Brooks). SCSU is no pushover. Not anymore. Nobody is stating Grieco is hobey material. No one is stating that he's the next Ed Belfour either. He's simply gone out there and, good or bad, put UND in the position to win in every game he's played in. He didn't steal the show, but he did look solid. Especially for a 17 year old. Phil may still be "the man," that much may be true, but I think it may just be time to give Grieco a break.
  15. Plus, he knows the game of hockey. If you want to ridicule some commentator, look right next to him at Frank Masucko. That guy is simply the worst.
  16. "they" mainly is Ray Saigo, SCSU President. And SCSU has had a history with racism...anti-semitism...censorship... etc.
  17. Glad I can be taken humorously... I guess. But I get the picture. I post too much junk. I feel silly for being so darn blind to it. I'll clean it all up from now on... or I'll try.

Same here. Here's the pros for Grieco: 1. Size. He's a bigger goaltender and can therefore cover more space. 2. Has yet to lose a game. 3. 4.5 gpg in support 4. Seems to have a good eye for the puck 5. Good sense of anticipation Here's the cons for Grieco: 1. Only 4 career games. 2. Only games are against MSU Mankato and SCSU. SCSU is a pretty good opponent, but they aren't UW, Maine, or Minnesota 3. Not yet a game stealing goaltender. Relies heavily upon the defense, especially on the penalty kill. Here's the pros for Lamoureaux: 1. More experienced goaltender 2. Good lateral movement 3. Fast 4. Pretty solid when down in the butterfly 5. Higher accolades in a tougher league than Grieco Cons for Lamoureaux 1. Can easily get out of position (relies upon the "spectacular" save) 2. Aggressive (can be both pro and con, really) 3. Can be hot or cold. When hot, he's unbeatable (UW series). When not... 4. Poor goal support Phil is still the #1 goaltender, no doubt about it. However, Grieco has proven 3 things thus far (so far): 1. Hakstol (or whomever it was who recruited Grieco) knew what he was looking at (scoff if you will, but let's not forget some of the goaltending busts that have suited up for us in the past) 2. Grieco is a competant goaltender and a good alternative to Phil 3. Grieco will provide Phil with a solid image in his rear view mirror. If he doesn't play at his best, Grieco could usurp his #1 standing. Also, I think UAA is a great way to bring Phil back. Good opponent, but not top tier.
  19. Missed ya AZ. I came all hyped up, ready to win a signed Matt Jones jersey
  20. Scatter musings on this thread here and there: brianvf- I know, isn't it special how Porter has stepped up? He is, however, a member of the unreliable trifecta though (Finley and Grieco the other two) so I'm not sure any opinions will change. PP Unit 2 WAS effective tonight. In fact, you COULD say that it was the only effective PP unit for the Sioux on Saturday... Porter scored the GTG on the Power Play and he's on PP Unit 2. To my knowledge, PP Unit 1 didn't score tonight. Ok, so I'm hard on Scanlan. Please, when he says on air that he doesn't know what qualifies for a penalty shot, you kinda start to wonder. yzerman- You make a pretty good point, but I still don't think Porter should have gotten a penalty shot. The fact that Mason conferred with the AR was pretty remarkable considering the fact that Porter didn't have any seperation from Fletcher on the break at all. In the NHL, I believe the rule is that the player must have at least one full step seperation when being taken down to qualify for a penalty shot. Porter didn't have more than, perhaps, a half step. Did it prevent a scoring op? Probably. Was it a clear breakaway? No, it was not. Whistler- Yes, yes you are the only guy who doesn't like the cowbell guy. But, yeah, Whistler, Shepherd does need to be fired, hell, given his past officiating experience, I'll settle for early retirement. PCM- HA! Thanks for the flattery regarding recaps, but it really doesn't compare to yours (If I could write recaps like you, I'd probably be bucking for a sudo-journalist's merit badge). I know it was tongue in cheek, but I like pretending that you were telling the truth.
  21. Hmmm I wonder if some Gopher poster will come in and take offense to that.
  22. My speculation was that it was Dan Kronick. Earlier in the game, TH remarked that Kronick punched Oshie to the back of the helmet behind the play. And when the scrum occurred, there was Kronick right in the middle of it.
  23. It may surprise you but... Mason's not the worst the WCHA can throw at you. Remember, like them or not, UMD and UMN had to put up with Adam. There's always Anderson (though he and Shepherd have gotten better the past few years) and Hunt.
  24. Hmmm good point. Well, at least Mason didn't change his mind back and forth 4 or 5 times.
  25. Thanks! You guys sure did a number on our pass Defense. And it is really nice to know there is at least ONE decent SCSU fan out there.
