Whatever it takes to get the crowd into the game... or maybe that's how loud those yellow seats are.
-
An interesting opening period of play.
-
Killed it off! Good job Sioux
-
Finley goes for holding.
-
That is two close calls for UAA.
-
Kozek hits the post!
-
Penalties on Beagle from UAA and Finley, though Finley wasn't even in the play...
-
Was that CHorney with the last second stick nudge?
-
Anderson did his Porter impression from last night. Diving play and into the post. Snapped the post. Same thing happened on Porter's attempt.
-
Lots of hitting.
-
This is a good start.... All UAA.
-
Is there anything NOT sponsored by something? Pretty soon Finley's checks will be sponsored by USBank Jones' checks by Wells Fargo and so on and on...

Link is "active" though it's not working for me.

Wow. A fresh perspective Yeah, I agree with you entirely. We need to be scoring more. We need more players stepping up offensively. Lee needs to shoot more on the Power Play. TJ needs to keep rushing the net. The keys to the game for me (not necessarily anyone elses): 1. Faceoffs- We need to win a good deal of the faceoffs more than we did last night. 2. Responsible hockey - Stay out of the box and, since Shepherd can be counted on to call roughing 5 or 6 penalties on the Sioux so I guess this key could be stated as staying solid on the PK team. 3. Solid D -- Grieco plays a part in this but it is a team effort on this one. If the defense hangs Grieco out to dry a lot I'm not going to blame Grieco if things don't go his way.

I expect it to be Walski. Sends a message to Grieco to get his head back in the game. Grieco wasn't getting beat by UAA. He was beating himself. That's a mind issue and perhaps a week of practice will remedy that. On the other hand, perhaps the bye week did more harm to Grieco than it did good. Who knows. As for Finley, he's had a few less than stellar games this year, but he's also had some good games this year. As I said before, I think maybe he needs a night off to get his head back in the game. But is he a "lost cause" and "give his slot to Genoway (or whomever) for the rest of the year?" Not a chance. I don't believe he was that shabby last year during the second half of the year. It's painfully obvious that he has a slow start, but he's still quite young as well (is he even 19 yet?). With Jones not being his usual feisty self and Finley just being too damn tall for his own good (if you think he intentionally elbowed Kevin Clark last night, you're nuts. Clark practically only comes up to Finley's elbows!). Finley isn't as reckless as Paukovich nor is he as dangerous. Usually he's alright but not great. I have faith in him, but Smaby needed a brief benching and I think Finley could use the same handling Smaby got. And yes, it pains me to say that because I like Finley.

So if I'm understanding these things right, BigGame was wrong about UND? Clarification: I am talking about "covering the spread"

Great win, but a costly win. Too bad I was out of touch. Who whom is now injured? Strouth (isn't he the backup RB) and whom else. I heard that Stroup killed WSU's backup QB... I hope he'll be ok.

You just have to reboot it. Hit stop and then play again and wait for it to load again. It happened to me about 4 or 5 times but after the first period I didn't lose it again for any appreciable amount of time. I muted it and listened to the radio. The radio feed for me was ahead of the webcast so I could here it happen and then watch it happen. Something I realized was that TH made it sound a lot more exciting than it looked at times. Big issue for me in the 2nd period was that the camera pixellated. I'd only get the top quarter of the picture semi clear and the rest would turn into smears of colored squares.

Idle musings, but I wonder if we could make Marto into another Chay Genoway?

Sure, I can understand your perspective but there is some things I disagree with. First off, how is giving up 1 goal to SCSU getting torched? Since when is winning 3 out of the first 4 games, unbeaten in your first four games, and a .600 winning percentage (5 games factored in, didn't factor in the tie) a bad thing? I don't care how many goals you let in. If you still win the game, winning is what will get you to the Frozen Four. And it takes more than just goaltending to win a game. Secondly, UAA has played well this season despite their record. SCSU is not the SCSU we remember. They are much better and much better coached. UAA has a decent coach now and if you don't think that matters, then don't tell Motzko or Jackson (Notre Dame). MSU Mankato can be a downright good team that has NEVER treated us well in Mankato. A nice way to get greeted in your first real DI game, no? Thirdly, I understand what you say about Grieco last night, but to be strictly to the facts, it was 4 goals in 1.5 periods (2 in the first and 2 in the second). Regardless, Grieco DID INDEED have a bad game. Lastly, I agree that Walski could be just as big of a bust, but I don't see such skepticism towards him that Grieco got even after his good weekend at home. Does Walski deserve a shot tonight? Sure. Does it proceed past tonight? Well, it would have to be a dynamite performance tonight plus incredible practices to get the #2 job away from Grieco even with the loss. I don't care who you are, where you are from, or what team you play for. A 17 year old goaltender with a young team (UND dressed only ONE senior last night and 12 sophomores) that starts out 3-1-1 deserves respect. PERIOD.
-
In my opinion, Lawson and Teslak are the two most underrated goaltenders in the WCHA and have a good argument in being the most underrated goaltenders in the NCAA. My opinion, anyways.
-
AZSioux- Gotta give him an A for effort
-
Not really. Just the usual UND Player + North Dakota born and raised = Automatic Star fan base. Walski will (and should) get the start tonight. But if you think this is going to be a regular occurance, all the more power to you. Walski needs all the fans he can get. Grieco may very well be the future of this team. And, at 17 years old, he's now 3-1-1 in his Sioux "career." Of course, being that he's Canadian and the only non-ND product in nets for the Sioux, that 1 loss equals about 4 losses, I'm sure. I guess I'm in the group that thinkgs "I don't give a damn where he's from as long as he does the job we need him to do" fan base. Grieco had his first bad game as a Sioux (I don't care what you think of the Mankato series. They were wins and that's all that matters). I love the fact that those who detract from Grieco laid in wait for him to lose his first game. I hate to break it to you, Walski, Lamoureux, and so on ALL have or will eventually lose a game or two. I am not sure when's the last time a goaltender has suited up for ANY team over a 3 or 4 year span and had gone undefeated (of course, this assumes that the goaltender has actually played long enough in games to qualify for a decision). Grieco lost this game. He'll probably lose a few more games. In fact, I'm sure of it. However, to think that this is the break Walski needed is rather assinine. It does however, give Phil a little breathing room and it shows that Grieco is a 17 year old freshman goaltender.

No need to apologize, PCM. If I don't write it clear enough (which I often don't), then there's no problem in asking for clarification. It's nice to know that you are actually reading what I post.

Sorry. I was not clear. Genoway played on the first line last night. I meant that I'd move Genoway back to FINLEY's spot on the D. Sorry I wasn't so clear. sagard- We had one insinuation during the game but nothing else. Give it time. It may come up after the Walski fanatics start touting how they were right all along and so on.
