You can (and will) until such time as Team USA gets together and decides to put a TEAM together, not a roster of hockey players together. Team USA needs to swallow their pride and start operating like Team Canada. Make the coach of the team be the USA Hockey Coach of the Year (heck, let him be from any level from juniors to NHL provided he's American and willing to undertake the job), give the Coach full control over who assists him (which may already be the case), and do everything else modelled after Hockey Canada. Yeah, it will be "unAmerican" to mimick our "hated" Hockey rivals to the North, but if that's what it is going to take to win, so be it.
-
Why is it that, whenever the WJC happens we keep suckering ourselves into thinking "This year, Team USA will play more like a team than a group of star hockey players?" Seriously, Team Canada played like a team. They accepted accolades as a team. There's no doubt in my mind that Team Canada was the better team. Now Canada plays Sweden and US plays Russia. I think Canada/Sweden will be a good game. Toss up for US/Russia. US beat Russia already but if they play like they did today, Russia will take it.

Seems like a great strategy to me, IMO. Then, if you can get control of the puck as Kane is coming out of the box, it could be a big time breakaway setup. If not, you already have a dynamic player on the ice ready and rested.

First, Duncan will get an offer. I just don't see Duncan have a pro career any greater than that of Peter Sejna. Both Peter and Ryan have tremendous talent, short on size, and will never get a shot. Oshie is a goal scorer who is now being called on to be a playmaker. I think Toews and Oshie acted in the same capacity last year as Toews and Kane are performing this year with the Hawks. I think Duncan and Oshie will be fine. I think Frattin is a freshman... correct me if I'm wrong. He's playing well for a freshman. Chorney is a great puck moving defenseman, but so is Genoway. Finley has even shown flashes as well. But what he misses the most is Brian Lee. He took some attention off of him, could pass the puck pretty good and took all of the blame and responsibility off of his shoulders. Without Lee to be blamed for everything, now he has to shoulder some of that and he's getting weighed down with it. He'll be fine though. Our problem isn't defense really. Our problem is sustained offense. Putting two games together against the same opponent is darn near impossible for this team apparently.

What do you know, Chief, you discovered Jesse Jackson's MO. -
This is a viable prediction. The main crux of my cynicism is that this team can't beat the same team two games in a row. Order of win or loss is irrelevant.

We're on the road. We haven't won many games on the road on Friday nights this season. As long as he's back for Saturday's game, we'll still split. In fact, even if he isn't, we'll still split.
-
Trust me, I'm not giving up. I just don't feel bad now for missing last night's game. Instead, I was over at my friend's house watching the UFC and playing PS3 games. (by the way, Call of Duty 4 is awesome. I should also put a plug into a side game on the Half Life Orange Box game called Portal. SERIOUSLY fun and funny too).
-
Radke and apparently Forney looked good this weekend (I say apparently Forney because I didn't see Saturday's game). Maybe this is the impulse to get Forney and Radke back into the lineup more. Miller hasn't played well and Martens just started showing signs of life last weekend...

It isn't. But it sure as hell is frustrating. We can't put two good games together unless it is against two different opponents! The good news, I like to say, is that it is a good format to be in for the NCAAs, as you only play each opponent once. However, this isn't going to get us home ice for the WCHA... which might be better anyways come to think of it.
-
Jones played Friday. Not sure about last night.
-
Split. I'm not making any other prediction until this team can prove they can play two games in a row against the same opponent. PERIOD. I figured we'd get split against UNH.
-
I know it's dirty to root for PCU, but I hope the Huskies beat the RedTurkeys. Anything that makes the CCHA look like a weak league is ok by me.
-
How does this affect us? We beat Michigan State and MTU and Providence have to be ugly losses PWR wise... does this lower MSU's PWR value to where it may cost us down the road? NOTE: I may be completely wrong about how PWR works. I may be thinking of KRACH. Doesn't matter. I don't get either of the systems. And with PWR and KRACH in mind, should we root for MTU against the Wolverines? I really want to.

Here's a conspiracy theory and probably just bunk, but... Maybe JPL has to dive because that is the only way the officials will protect the goaltender. And Don Adam isn't exactly the most awe inspiring official when it comes to player safety records... That being said, I didn't see the act and I think JPL does have a little too much drama to him. The problem I see (as stated in this thread) is that if it was diving then he should have been called for it and then that would be that. Instead, Adam sends Bina to the box. Whatever, tit for tat I guess. UNH is finding out that diving is only illegal if they can get the other guy for something. I'm impressed that they called Bina for holding the stick. Usually that's legal in the WCHA. Well, some pushing and shoving after the game apparently so tempers will be up tonight. With Adam on the ice, I just hope that no one gets hurt (UND or UNH).

I'll let Sioux-cia respond to the questioning of her knowledge of reservation life. But what I will say is: What do you expect from the U.S. government? They can't make Native Americans graduate high school. They can't make Native Americans stop drinking alcohol. They can't force Native Americans to adopt a means of ambition and motivation that would help them succeed in American society. Native Americans aren't the only ethnicity that suffers from these things. This is a key facet to the entitlist movement. They think that their societal problems all come from the government. Well, alcoholism was around before the reservations. The fact of the matter is that no amount of funding. No amount of grovelling and asking forgiveness by the U.S. government is going to get the Native Americans out of the hole they find themselves in. They are going to have to swallow their pride (or at least some of it) and adapt to the American method of doing things to get themselves ahead. It may mean that they can no longer afford to live in massive communities of NA folks. It may mean that they'll have to stop skipping school to take grandma to the doctor. But number one on the list of sacrifices is that they'll have to give up thinking that, because the NA society is rather socialistic in nature that the U.S. should reciprocate likewise. The United States, for good or for bad, is a captiolist country. That means the opposite of "All for one and one for all." It is the fundamental disconnect between our ways of thought and NA ways of thought. Unfortunately, there is no general solution. But there is a way out if they are willing to make sacrifices. So far, those who have are considered (as Means put it) to be "Vichy Indians" or "Hang around the fort Indians" or, blandly, those who have "given up their heritage." I wonder about those who have left the reservation and not returned. Did they truly give up their heritage or did they move on and adapted their heritage to their new life? -
I listened to the radio in the first period enough to know that Adam was officiating. I knew we had trouble when he did. Lucky Phil wasn't hurt. Adam would be the ref to allow the other team to get away with it.

I didn't get to see most of the game. Can you describe what happened with Lammy? I'm VERY VERY happy about Radke. Surprised with Martens too. On paper, I like the Genoway-Trupp-Frattin line. Lots of energy, speed, and skill.
-
We'll send him a bill. Nice post. Very respectful.

My only concern is the "hot goaltender" excuse. Bachman was the goaltender du jour when we played CC and he stopped us. Regan is a good goaltender. He's the only guy (other than JvR) who stands out to me. I'm not saying that UNH is a no talent hack that has gotten where they are by luck. I'm just wondering if the prospect of playing against a solid goaltender just gets us derailed sometimes.
-
No one is going to regret leaving UND more than Roger Thomas.
-
What do you know of #5-10 on your goaltender list? NEver heard of any of them. CJHL may not show the best indicator of talent. Isn't that Junior B?
-
GLeason had two good plays (1 ended up an assist and the other a goal) vs. Eden Prairie. Also, Budish didn't look bad against Eden Prairie at all. He had a goal similar to Fabian's goal vs. UMN a few years back. Picked the guy's pocket coming around behind the net turns skates in a scores.
-
I didn't get any Sioux memorabilia. I got a Sweater, a book (The Tao of Jeet Koon Do by Bruce Lee), a gift card to an Indian Restaurant, a Playstation 3, and a video iPoD. A good Christmas, but not UND related.

I like how sioux_xuois thinks it is wrong for us to pick apart one side of an argument. Well, what are we supposed to do? Throw up our hands and say "Well, they're offended, that means we can't do anything but try to make them happy?" Looks like you are the guy in the debate team that says "You are right, you win." when the debate opponent says his/her speech on some topic. The only thing I know of when one side (for or against) gets rid of the opposition all you have is a totalitarian dictatorship. If you can't question, cross examine, and take a stance for or against without fear, then you live in a bad situation and need to investigate leaving. Sure, people who are against the nickname face a rough time on this message board, but so do democrats who frequent the republican message boards (and vice versa). Closed Circuit to SIoux-cia: The past is the past? Don't say that. If they don't have the past to cling onto, then they have to fend for themselves for the future. The past is a crutch. It enables the entitlement belief system. Anything that enables that will be a detriment to the NA society.
