MSUM penalty (High Sticking). Mouillerat goes for the 4th time.
-
Now, MSUM is back in the game with plenty of time left. We need the next goal. And we need to stay out of the box.
-
2-1 UND. Costly penalty.
-
Bina eliminating the Sioux PP.
-
HIgh sticking on Berge MSUM. Keep shooting, make it 3-0
-
It's only going to go more downhill from here.
-
Kaip and Bruess fighting.
-
Tell UMD's captain to do a wraparound going left to right.
-
BINA!!!!! Gosh, it's amazing what happens when you're not afraid to shoot the puck.
-
We've had one or two chances this period thus far. MSUM going for hooking. Maybe this PP we'll actually shoot the puck.
-
I like the comparison between Roche and LaPoint.... but perhaps yzerman will have to let us know if Roche sucked too. After all, he has 16 years of playing hockey to fall back on.

Minnesota won on a shootout when Pierre-Marc Bouchard (IIRC) ran down Khabibulin last season while turning to do a backhand. Sorry, contact like that with the goaltender (In order for Khabibulin to have made the save, if he could make the save at all, he would have had to push laterally through Bouchard, who was actually on top of him as he was shooting the puck). No go... oh.. goal. Game over. Wild win. This is not a conspiracy against the Wild, as I'm sure it happens elsewhere occasionally. I'm just one of those people who thinks that, when the goaltender is in the crease, there is NO LOGICAL REASON WHATSOEVER, for an opposing player to have any body to body contact (meaning hitting, checking, laying atop of, colliding with, etc.) with the goaltender. If there is, it should be a penalty. PERIOD. If the goalie's teammate checks an opposing player into the goaltender, 2 minutes against the goalie's team. All other times, goaltender interference. If it happens during a shootout, the goal (if it is scored) is ruled a NO GOAL and the game either ends (if the other team is ahead at the time) or goes back to the other team to shoot. Of course, that's my opinion.

Gosh, did I see this coming? LaPointe ISN'T a physical defenseman! HE NEVER WAS! Not in High School. Not in the USHL. So, tell me, why is it that, if you are a defenseman, you are expected to throw big hits? It truly is amazing to me! He hasn't made a lot of mistakes (certainly less than Smaby his freshman year). You amaze me, yzerman19. You truly do. By the way, my favorite defenseman of all time is Niklas Lidstrom. The guy is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT physical AT ALL! Sure, he may have had a big hit in there every now and then, but so did Brian Lee and so will Derrick LaPoint. Hakstol knows what he's doing. Hak knows more than I do in hockey. If Hakstol plays LaPoint then that was the right decision. If Hak likes it, I like it. PERIOD. End of rant.

Chorney named WCHA Defensive Player of the week
redwing77 replied to SportsDoc's topic in Men's Hockey
Actually, I don't think Chorney's been flamed that much. Just criticized. And the criticism only happens occasionally. It's not like Brian Lee's situation where every other post seemingly either called for his benching or called for his signing or perhaps called for Brian to give up hockey and take up bagging groceries at SuperOne Foods. I don't think all of the criticism of Chorney is fair, but it is nowhere near the kinds of player bashing this board has witnessed the past few years. -
What he's saying is, Let's start the Sioux Inquisition with the "source" acting as Head Inquisitor.
-
Here we go again with the "Shut up if you haven't played" shtick.

Chorney named WCHA Defensive Player of the week

I'd say so. Congrats, Taylor. -
Shepherd's boss is McLeod, but Greggiepoo has often said that, since the coaches do not speak up about any officials during the offseason, they must be doing fine. The "no news is good news" aka the "Buddy buddy" system component #1 is firmly entrenched in the officiating corps. I don't know who hires or fires officials, whether Shep has sole or joint autonomy (with McLeod). He definitely has say, though, in retention and development of the officials though.

First off, I'd love to see NHL officials officiate WCHA games and call it the NHL way. But it is not going to happen under McLeod. He wants to be as good as the NHL but not as... who am I kidding. Sometimes the gold seal of what leagues are designed in response to just isn't enough. Secondly, Mason maybe. I'm not altogether convinced he's beyond repair. As for Campion, lately he has been pretty emotional in games. I omitted him for the reason that, when Campion first appeared in the WCHA, he called great games. Every penalty I ever saw really was undisputedly a penalty. Then he got acclimated to Greg Shephard's "system" and voila. I'm just not convinced Campion's games are officiated the way Campion would do it, you know? It's hard to explain, but let me put it this way: I'm a substitute teacher. My job is to come in and act in the same capacity as the regular teacher, do the same job as the regular teacher for the day, and act as much according to how the regular teacher acts as possible. If Greg Shepherd is saying "Do it this way" (which I'm sure he is), then how do we know that Campion really sucks? Maybe he's just acting in a capacity that he interprets is expected of him by Greg Shepherd? Admittedly, the MSUM thing is odd, but still... Papa Shepherd is the head of this ugly beast run afoul. I still maintain cut off the head and install someone who is competant. And definitely not a buddy of McLeod's. That means someone out of system. I'd love to have a highly respected, newly retired NHL head official take over. Or perhaps the NHL assistant supervisor of officials.
-
If that's the case, then I'm really worried about PCM. At his age, I'm not sure he can take that kind of "excitement."

I'd like to double emphasize this. He is from Moncton folks. Moncton, along with London (OHL) and Red Deer (WHL), constitute one of the top three locations that have been successful in luring NCAA players and NCAA commits away from their schools. Moncton, I'd say, is even more successful. Clarke hasn't been drafted by QMJHL teams yet, but if Moncton drafts him, I'd be very surprised if he suited up for the Sioux. They are weasels in Moncton and Moncton happens to be where Clarke used to live (before moving to, of all places, Missouri).

No. There are two, maybe three officials I'd fire off hand (Adam, Schmidt, and perhaps one other...Mason?). The rest, I'd say, is a wait and see. Truth is, we can't really tell as fans what the officials are doing based on their own personal incompetence (or competence) and what they are being mandated in enforcing by the big man. So, my viewpoint is to simply fire Greg Shepherd and replace him with a guy who actually has a plan to keep the officials accountable that goes beyond the simple wrist slapping, the apology letter, and the "buddy buddy" relationship mongering. Enforce situational officiating in only such cases as that would require an official to be fired (in other words, an official can enforce parity through situational officiating only if he wants to be unemployed after the game). An official will not be allowed to control the game regardless of which teams are playing. And, of course, consistency will be the number one means of career endurance. You call it both ways and both ways only. PERIOD. Anyways, replace the brain and keep most of the body and see how it acts.

Something has come up Jan 26th and I don't want to give up my one shot to see the Sioux live. So, I'm looking to trade a ticket for the UAA series Saturday game for a future home series. Since my ticket is lower bowl (Section 112), I'd ask for lower bowl in exchange, though I wouldn't turn down a suite ticket ( ). I appreciate your time. Contact me via PM if you can help me out.

Do I even need to say anything here? Ok, insert the usual rant about WCHA Officiating here, but I will add one graphic reference to Greg "I suck at life" Shepherd. Here's a cartoon depiction of Greg Shepherd's apology to UW. "I sowwy. But I can't do nothin' bout it because I'm an incompetant boob and my officials are only doing what I expect of them."
