Good game DU. Too bad we couldn't play smarter.
-
This doesn't look good. We're starting to shoot more, but we're allowing a hot goaltender to dominate us again. I'll state the obvious: If DU scores again, game over.
-
Well, thank god that period is over. Time to reevaluate. Step one: Play smart hockey. Step Two: SHOOT THE GOD DAMN PUCK! Step Three: The officials aren't calling penalties on DU that often. Therefore, we have to make them count Step Four: Expect any big hit to be called so hit cautiously.
-
It should be 4 or 5-1 DU right now. Great goaltending.
-
Are we playing hockey? Right now we're not. Defense? Nope. Smarts? Nope. We're playing stupid hockey without defense. WOW.... We're playing STOOOOPID

The neat thing about the term "to close to" (other than the first "to" should be "too") is that it isn't. Cavalry is defined as an army on horseback as well as the modern connotation of an army mounted on vehicles such as helicopters and armored personnel carriers Cavaliers are gentlemen trained in arms and horsemanship. So, yes, I can see the possibility of some confusion if you don't know the definitions of the terms, but Cavalry is a group of mounted soldiers (with modern connotations) whereas Cavaliers are individual mounted soldiers (with no modern connotation). I think calling ourselves the Fighting Cavalry (or just Cavalry) would be a great name. We can go all out by having presentations and ask the local Army National Guard (as well as representatives from the 66th Cavalry Division (Army Reserve - if still around. This Division was dispersed across 4 states including ND) and perhaps even the 1st Cavalry Division), have the ceremony in the Spring once the snow thaws so they can have a Huey helicopter flyby, have the band playing patriotic songs, bring in a few military vehicles for the kids, military color guards, and so on.

Toews also gets his ninth tonight. What's interesting to me is that he's +2 on the night with only 2 SOG. So, he shot 50% tonight. It will be interesting if Kane gets the Calder because if he does, Toews will do most of the legwork.

I'm in Seattle so I can't listen or watch the game. Ok, I could listen to the game, but I can't at this point. But anyways, are we not getting those odd man shots off because we're trying to be too cute (something we are historically prone to do) or was it just good D?
-
Wow, that's very nice. Too bad some won't listen. And I agree with nodak hockey fanatic as well. We're fans. We watch the game. we root hard for our team. Player bashing shouldn't be the MO for us around here, but refraining from comment shouldn't be discouraged either. Saying Radke takes stupid penalties is one thing. Saying he sucks is another. It's also wise to remember that when asking "What in the world does Radke bring to the Sioux?" the answer can be simply "Enough to warrant him still being on the team, Hak still having confidence in him, and his teammates still liking him."
-
And here I was worried we wouldn't have a scapegoat now that Lee has left the Sioux. Whew. Glad(?) I was wrong?

Started out here disliking Woog quite a bit until I learned more about the game and listened to him more. Now I understand that Woog is a great hockey mind, even if he is a Gopher homer and Masucko is just an idiot. However, I like it when he sticks his foot in his mouth and Woog corrects him. Some things I did notice from this weekend's games (I watched UFC last night -- what a horrendous UFC that was)... UAA and UMTC were horrible in their own right. Neither could stick handle on Friday. UAA routinely beat UMTC to the puck but once they got to the puck, they couldn't carry it or pass it or shoot it. #21 for UAA had an EASY goal if he could have handled the puck when the Gophers were up either 1-0 or 2-0 but he whiffed. UMTC just didn't see to have much heart all weekend long. They didn't play hard at all. When UAA started scoring on Saturday, UMTC folded. No other way to describe it. It literally seemed that they stopped trying when the Seawolves went up 3-2. I agree with Sagard. Lucia better get their heads back into the game or it's gonna get ugly for the Gophers.

COOL! MY CAPS LOCK WORKS TOO! Seriously, my tongue in cheek meaning for a practice goaltender really struck a nerve with ya, huh? Too bad I don't care. I stand by my statement that we need an adequate practice goaltender. I also stand by the fact that Hak would hold no BS above this guy by saying "Hey, you have a shot at playing!" That's because he doesn't barring some horrendous fluke. Look, he could act all pissy about it and all and all he'd have to do is say "no." Or he can do what Ryan Sofie did. Practiced hard with the team, did the best he knew how and filled a role with value even if the value can't be measured in real stats. If you want to go around blowing smoke, that's your business. I believe that this guy needs to come aboard ready to try his best but to hold no expectation of getting any playing time at all.

That, coupled with your member # could bring questions regarding senility.

Or loses, depending upon your perspective. Sure, argumentatively speaking, Diggler wins the battle, but he also loses because he now has no focus towards one of his key arguments heading into the season. I suppose there's always Turris.
-
I guess the way I see it is that, if an offensive defenseman doesn't work out (assuming his defensive skills are good), he becomes another defensive defenseman. If a forward doesn't work out offensively, perhaps he can be a grinder. If that doesn't work maybe he can be another Boogaard.
-
First I'm accused of being a genius and now I'm a hockey guru? I'm flattered. My point is that it really doesn't matter who the third goaltender is as long as he has experience at the high school level or higher and is moderately competent at that. Open tryouts can produce that. I believe SCSU had some third stringer out of St. Cloud Cathedral (Or some high school in town) for a year. Was there for a year. Gone after that. Never heard of him since. We just need a guy who can give us what we need. I think we should get a big goaltender. Someone who is 6'2 or taller. They seem to give us a lot of trouble. Seriously, though, I don't think it is going to matter who Hak finds. I doubt he'll be more than a practice goaltender...
-
Are you serious? In order for our third goaltender to have playing time we'd have to have a goaltender situation like we did in 2001-2002 OR JPL and Walski will have to be injured. I say find some 21 year old stiff who just aged out of the NAHL or USHL (at Christmas break), get him enrolled and hand him a personally numbered practice jersey, a sewing kit, and a coupon for dry cleaners in town who specialize in removing puck marks from jerseys.
-
I agree completely. Right now, the in your face attitude is being taken up by Kaip and perhaps Jones and Zajac at times. Radke doesn't score. He'll never be a scorer. It's disappointing considering his numbers at Grande Prairie (AJHL), but that's how it goes. But he does work hard, hit hard, and play hard because he has to on this kind of a team. There's so much talent that he'd be easily lost in the shuffle. Many forwards are faster than he is. Many can stick handle better than he can. He's not even very big size wise. When that is the case, you have to get into the lineup by sheer work ethic and emphasizing what you've got. Like him or hate him, he's improved every year he's played with the Sioux. And I'm confident we'll see him play before too long.

City/State you were born and where you live now? Rochester, MN -- Fargo, ND Did you attend UND? Yes. Graduated 2004 BS in Early Childhood Education/Elementary Education Favorite current sioux player? I like 'em all. Favorite all time sioux player/s? Too hard. I can name close to 10 that would fit. Favorite all time NON sioux WCHA player and team? Don't really have a favorite non-Sioux WCHA player. I liked Backes, Morin, Raymond, Lessard, Gauthier(Sp?), Sertich, Cullen... As for team, I'd say Duluth. Are you a season ticket holder? As a student yes, until they went to that lottery system my final year. Didn't get drawn.

Roger Thomas is currently the NCC boss. He's probably regretting it. He has the distinction of coming into the job right as the NCC fell apart.
-
I hope he's retained. His ineptitude is simply laughable. As for Williamson, it was unprofessional for the Vikes to do what they did. However, what was worse is that they didn't do the right thing and cut his butt after last season. I don't know what he's like off the field or in practice, but he's worthless on the field.
-
I think the Vikings shouldn't have been in this situation to begin with. They should've cut him in training camp.
-
Yes. I don't think either team did horrible offensively. Whereas, I don't know how many offensive players played defensively in this game. If they DID, then that may explain why it was so horrible defensively today. And right now, the way NDSU is playing, either FCS is very very weak (or the teams they played are, including the Gateway conference) or NDSU is a really good team. And please don't use the "NDSU beat Minnesota" argument. At this point, I think D-G-F can beat Minnesota.

Eades probably said "Get a water bottle ready and I'll show you what a melee really is."
