  1. Is there a way to do it for non iPod users? My father has a Sandisk Sansa and that doesn't accept iTunes.
  2. I watched the 1987 World Series on TV. Does that count? How about the 2000 Fighting Sioux season (every home game in attendance!!!). Seriously, count yourself lucky. I count my dad lucky. I'm such a sports cynic that I can't get into pro sports. I haven't really been a Twins fan since 1987. Never really was a Vikings fan. Basketball sucks (and so do the T-puppies, who knew?)... Never got into the North Stars. Dislike the Wild... Anyways, speaking of NHL, I would LOVE to download Toews' insane goal from earlier this season now that I got a new video iPod, but I can't figure out how. Anyone know how?
  3. So you are saying the Wirtz didn't run the Blackhawks into the ground? They were already 3 feet under when he took over and ended up taking them nearly 3 feet more? Thanks for the correction. My father watched much of the 1961 season from the stands. I don't recall how much it cost for him to go to the arena, but it wasn't much. He got to see so much... from the 1961 Blackhawks to watching Koufax pitch... lucky man.
  4. Thanks Nodaker. It's unlikely that Patterson would come here anyways. Colorado wouldn't want their draft pick to play backup to some other team's draft pick. In any case, he is uncommitted.
  5. So then what is the solution? "Oh, you don't want to uphold those treaties? Ok, here's your land back." Uh... nope. The fact of the matter is that, wrong as it was for us to "take" the land, it was taken and signed over. There is no viable solution to reverse this. It simply WILL NOT happen. The reservation idea was a bad idea conceived out of a poor excuse saying "this way they get some land." What a mistake. However, the reversal isn't to pull out of that land. It would, I'd dread, demand a violent action on the part of the Lakota and I don't see them doing something so stupid. So, again, what should be the solution? Give them semi-autonomous governmental powers while still granting them every right an American citizen gets? Done. Give millions of dollars in aid and programming both on and off the reservation (whether or not the people see it is another argument)? Done. Give Native Americans a near monopoly on an industry (casinos)? Done. What else do they want? They have equal rights available to them. They just have to act and live up to the same code every other American citizen lives up to. Sure, there is a lot of poverty on the reservation. Why? Is it because of the White Man? Nope. Is it because we set Native Americans up to fail? Nope. Is it because the Native Americans hold U.S. education in such low regard? Not necessarily, though there is an awful lot of Native Americans who never graduate high school. I believe it is the word "conformity" that holds Native Americans back. Underneath this umbrella comes words like "motivation," "culture," and "look to the future," but I think conformity poses the biggest problem. I believe that many Native Americans see conformity towards U.S. societal goals and expectations (such as "whatever you want to do, you can do, provided you do it by the rules and get it yourself") as turning their backs on their own culture and self-identity. I cannot imagine the alarm that is felt towards the loss of the language of the Native Americans over the years, but I can also imagine that it isn't the White Man's fault directly that causes this... or at least it shouldn't be. In order to succeed in the U.S. society you have going to have to be willing to: 1. work hard, pay your dues, and set aside personal ambition for a while in order to build enough foundation to go after your personal ambition 2. have to balance family and professional life to the point that professional goals can be met while still being able to meet most, if not all, family needs. 3. think for themselves. Add to this one that success isn't something that is given to you, it is earned through hard work, failure, and risk. 4. do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get on the path towards success, whether it can be done near home or away from it. That means graduating high school, getting into college, graduating college, and working your way up the ladder. This may mean moving thousands of miles away from home. 5. Find a medium between your culture and the societal expectations that are foreign to yours. We are a "mixed salad" if you will here in the U.S., but in order to succeed, we can't have each component off in its own side of the bowl. 6. Take the time to fix it. Fixing the problem won't happen overnight. It probably won't happen in a generation. According to a friend of mine, who does social work for immigrant families, it could take up to 3 generations to get a family out of poverty if all the conditions (such as motivation, dedication, and willingness to "play by the rules") are in place. 7. Put aside the past injustices and work towards a better tommorrow. Hate the white man for what he did in the past, it is your right, but remember that it is the same white man that can help you toward success. Play by the rules and win. Turn your back and you lose. 7a. Put aside the entitlement attitude. We (U.S.) do not live in a socialist or communistic society. We do not give you handouts in the real world. It's not our job to ensure you succeed. It is our job to put the tools in place so that, should you put the effort into it (including, unfortunately, the sacrifices that go with it) you can do it on your own.
  6. WWW is the initials, IIRC, of their late owner, William Wadsworth Wirtz. He's the guy who basically started up the Chicago Blackhawks, watched them rise to power, and then promptly ran them into the ground.
  7. Hab-It: Officiating can't be as inconsistent as what we've got. And it is truly rare to find a head of officials more incompetant than ours. As for UBC and UAlberta (both of whom I hear are fairly competitive and were names thrown into the NCAA argument) have major roster issues right now, if they were to jump to the NCAA. Under the current NCAA eligibility guidelines, only 4 of UBC's 26 players (15.4%) would be NCAA eligible and only 3 of 27 (11.1%) would be eligible out of UAlberta's current roster. All of the ineligibility is due to Major Junior play.
  8. Let me say that I know little about these guys, but they are available still (uncommitted) from the USHL: Josh Robinson Kent Patterson (He was drafted by the Avs, but is having a rather poor year having been ousted in favor of UMD recruit Hjelle) Michael Clemente - His stats aren't impressive. However, he's played the majority of games for NTDP to date. Alex Evin - overager. Stats are impressive (goalie leader in the BCHL at this point). Chris Rawlings was once recruited by UND, but he's seemed to have fallen off the mark. His stats aren't that great either. Don't know much about these guys, but Kent Patterson has NHL interest and Robinson seems to be playing well at this point...just looking at stats only anyways.
  9. Uh no... if they want to take away land that is now the property of the "public domain" such as Government land and private property that lies around it (like the city of Fargo, my parent's house, etc.) then they're going to run into serious problems like: "We are charging them rent and they're not paying it! The courts look the other way!" Seriously, they can make all the claims they want. It's not going to make it happen.
  10. Sure! Oshie was great as a center last season (when he took draws). I just wonder who is going to take the draws for the third line. I like Kaip leading the third line. He's got offense this year. He's got grit and leadership. He's pretty solid defensively.
  11. Who cares? Let them have their casinos. Now, however, we can tax them the same as any foreign-operated business operating in the U.S. and pressure them to show good faith by employing U.S. citizens. These people have been oppressed so they want to remove the U.S. from the equation. This poses some interesting situations. Renouncement of U.S. belonging, or secession if put into a state context, has never truly been accomplished since the U.S. seceeded (so to speak) from Britain (unless that crap about Texas counts). The success of this movement would in fact, make the Lakota "nation" into North America's first true third world country (say what you will about the U.S.'s support of the Lakota.. it still may be considered third world like for all I know, but all the U.S. money (and assisted health care if any -- Sioux-cia?) goes away. I think this is a terrible price for those who have been brainwashed into believing this tripe to pay. They are, in essence, making it difficult for Lakota to leave the reservation. Just look at the labels they make of NA people who do not join in with their crazy beliefs. it's interesting that they complain about how awful reservation life is and how the U.S. made them move there and remain there, yet now THEY themselves are enforcing the reservations' walls. You can't leave otherwise you are a traitor to your people, a lackey to the "White man," or a "hang around the fort" Indian. These "freedom" people sound so much more like hostage takers than freedom fighters to me.
  12. Most certainly. I hope Watkins and Kozek or Kozek and Trupp is on that line. Definitely Kozek though.
  13. I don't think losing O'Brien hurt the Gophers one bit, but I do think, even with Carmen back, they'll miss Okposo. With the Minnesota teams always so good at passing, it always confused me why Okposo didn't light it up as much this year or even the second(?) half of his freshman year.
  14. Just an fyi, but UAA landed Bryce Christianson to replace their injured goaltender. He's the same guy that had some hype behind him a year ago when UMN was recruiting him when they didn't know if they'd land Kangas.
  15. I'm not sure I like Kaip on the first line, but only for one reason. Kaip is a center. I don't have the stats with me, but I believe he's done alright on draws this year. Removing a center weakens the lower lines. Kaip is deserving based upon leadership and performance, for sure, but I do think we need capable centers just as much.
  16. When's the last time things like: "Sucks for them" or "I liked him, even if he was a gopher" were considered "spiteful?" Seriously, I don't like the Gophers. I wish we'd always finish ahead of them in the standings. HOWEVER, I'd rather side with the Gophers than side with Major Juniors or side with poaching NHL GMs who can't wait until season's end.
  17. Ok... How about as toothless as UAH? It's not my fault that MSUM isn't playing the part this year.
  18. Could be Overly Exciteable Retirees Perhaps Over Extended Racoons
  19. I'm hoping someone else caught the UNH-Maine game. I caught just about the last 9 minutes of the game and I thought it was rather dull. Maine just isn't good offensively AT ALL. No finishers. Bellamy can skate, but really... UNH, Im not sold on quite yet. They didn't appear to really be pressing very hard. They just sat back and played defensive hockey for the most part. Regan only had to make one good save in the time I watched. If we can produce good passing and get a speed game going, I think UNH is very beatable. Maine looked a lot like MSUM without all the grit. And that sucks because I like Maine.
  20. I'm calling out WPoS! Where's that lousy sack of... anyways? He hasn't posted here in ages. Same thing with Greyeagle! I thought he was some respected something or other! God I'm bored.
  21. WIth whom? I don't spend my time peeking in on a man and his five fingered romances.
  22. Question for the Vikings fans: Ok, the Vikings have been playing well lately. Yeah, Eli Manning gave them the game. True the Chargers crapped their breezers and should have won the game. However, this recent development poses an interesting situation. Which would you, as a Vikings fan, rather see: Situation A: Vikings continue their winning ways and win out. They make the playoffs and face whoever, it doesn't matter. They lose (Which they would. No crappy teams, except perhaps the Giants, make the playoffs). Childress claims victory and is rewarded with a 5 year extension. Situation B: Vikings take a dump and lose out and take a better draft pick. They fire Childress and hire a better coach. Just to make this situation more interesting, we'll say they draft well, improve their WR and DB Corps in the offseason with the higher picks.
  23. I think the "good old boy" system only applies when there is a perception that an outside candidate is overlooked in favor of an inside candidate despite the outside candidate apparently holding better credientials. It's a no-win situation because if an organization goes outside to avoid that accusation, then there will be those who say that the organization does not care for their own and that outsiders don't truly know what the organization is all about like the insider. Then, those people just wait until they can find fault and jump all over the "bad" choice.
  24. Like sagard, cujo2 is a secret Sioux fan. Let the secret out, dude.
