Yeah, if DU is sending out a press release, then it isn't good. Perhaps something as bad as a death in the family or a close relative coming down with a serious illness. This isn't going to be good.

Wasn't Wheeler Gretzky's first draft pick as GM? If that's the case, then that may be why he did what he did. Perhaps he couldn't trade low enough. but if you ask me, I would have traded down twice (traded pick #5 for the #10 pick and perhaps another second rounder, and then the #10 pick for the #20 pick and another draft pick and then drafted Wheeler then). But that's all hindsight.

I disagree. There are quite a few poor officials in the WCHA, but as I've stated many a time, Adam is the worst because he's every bit as bad as all the other guys but also has a complete disregard for player safety on top of it. That makes him a bad AND dangerous official. Anderson...Shepherd...Mason...Campion... doesn't matter. They all have been inconsistent, incompetent, and called poor games, but I've yet to see any of them act in a manner that placed players on the ice in danger of injury. Adam has.

I've always been a critic of Wheeler. I don't think he should have been drafted in the top 5 or even the to 20. However, I do think he has pretty good skills for a big player. He's just got nothing to work with. Bariball is having a sophomore slump. Carman is rusty. Kaufmann is feisty but not really a finisher. Wheeler can score, but he's more of a Toews type player (set up man, playmaker type though obviously not Toews type talent). He'll eventually make the NHL, but it is going to be a long journey. I think Gretzky was wise to keep him in college and may even be wiser to keep him in Minny until he graduates. Turris is a flight risk because of his mobility and puck handling skills. It won't be showcased in Wisconsin, but he's a great fit for the "new" NHL. Just look at Skille. The guy did next to nothing in Madison and now he's doing alright for the Hawks.

That's better than 8675 309 Or 25 or 6 to 4

I disagree for the sole reason that I can't have you getting a big ego on us.

Normally I'd agree, but where does the grabbing Malone by the facemask enter into it? Beaurline (now that I've thought about it more) had to push Malone away and Malone was stupid for not knowing where he was (hence the fall). However, grabbing the facemask was NOT necessary. And who said he was going to be suspended? At most, Greggiepoo would slap CJ's wrist and say "Buddy, don't do that again."

I'm not concerned about Lee's commitment. Eaves will turn him into a quality checking forward. He should have committed to someplace like Miami, Ohio State, or perhaps even Cornell. Then he could lead the league in offense.

True, but there is (maybe was now) a chance the NCAA (or WCHA) would look at this and give him one. Maybe not now, but... My point is still valid. If Adam let the clock run out, no altercations would have taken place and there would be nothing against any of the three players.

Yup. I can't tell you what is the right amount of passing or cycling on the powerplay, but I can tell you that nothing comes of a power play if you don't shoot the puck. The power plays that ran basically the last half of the second period and first part of the third period were so awful that I'm not sure the Gophers had to do much at all except stand in front of their net. We let our passing clear the zone for them. Kangas could probably have caught up on school work because we were too busy looking for that cross crease pass or the "perfect shot." I love garbage goals. They're not pretty, but the count the same as the pretty ones.

That's why I think Adam's remaining employed with the WCHA as unfathomable. He is notorious for having a complete disregard for player safety. Not saying that Malone was right in what he did, for he wasn't. Adam is a disaster as an official. He's not only inconsistent and incompetent (like his peers in the WCHA), he's dangerous.

Hak's behavior was wrong, but Adam's control of the game is legendary. Seriously folks! Adam's reputation is stated to the players before they step on the ice before one of the games he's officiating: "Do you have your affairs in order?" He is not safe. He is incredibly inconsistent, he allows tempers to flare and simmer and then goes haywire when the end of the game happens and it finally boils over. Adam could have done things to prevent Saturday night, I guarantee it. If he had simply let the clock run out with 3 seconds left in OT, the teams skate off to the lockerroom and that's that. Lucia, Zajac, and Finley have nothing to do but look forward to their next games. Anderson doesn't do squat to Oshie. Like I said, Adam is unsafe. He got flicked off, but even that could have been prevented if Greg Shepherd did the logical thing and fired him after the Bina incident.

I think the extra game had something to do with it, yes. However, the head of the Association is from SCSU, a school that enjoys it when UND gets in trouble almost more than many fans from other fanbases do. Is this harsh? I don't know. I thought he'd be suspended at least one game. The league rules addressing the criticism and abuse of on-ice officials is rather well-defined. What made it worse is the nickname dispute and the fact it was caught on camera. I don't know to what extent the punishment will be, especially since UND is off this next weekend. I'm not all that concerned about Hak's actual suspension as I am about whether or not he'd be allowed at UND practices. Eades has been around and Jackson's doing alright (if he could resolve the fact that our powerplay has downright sucked lately). Koberinski on the bench as assistant would be neat. brianvf- Unbelievable. Didn't notice that. I can imagine if Frank rewrote the article today it would totally be some excuse filled trash berating the league for not allowing the saint that is Doug Woog support his student athletes. Frank is such a blowhard.

I guess I've already said it but I'll repeat it: We gave UND "haters" ammo this weekend big time. Finley's antics will be lucky to get him suspended for only one game (if the WCHA looks into it, which I'm sure they will). I hate that. Western College Hockey Blog just wrote an embarrassing story on UND this past weekend and I can't even imagine what the comment section says. Problem is, what deniability do we have? What RJ Anderson may have tried to do? Does it change what Finley did in the handshake line? Or that Zajac checked Anderson from behind? Does it change how Malone jumped in 2 on 1 against Peltier? Sure, I like feisty play, but this was just bad. The headliner was Hak losing his cool, which is something I've NEVER seen before. Sure, we speculate, but never has it been documented. Yes, it was against Adam, an official who shouldn't be employed by the WCHA right now, but still....

UND radio had a guy who would ask UND hockey players to walk the listeners through a typical night on the town or date with them... Seriously, when this idea came up, was the approval guy sick? Distracted? Drugged? Seriously, it was the most retarded radio interview series I've ever heard.

I haven't read the whole thread as I watched this game from a hotel room in bumbledonk Wisconsin last night, so I may repeat what many have said but here it is: 1. We should have lost this game. I have never seen two teams on the ice so downright pathetic in a very long time. At one point I wondered if I was watching UMN vs. UND or AIC vs. Wayne State. Thank you JPL. Thank you VV. Both of you saved your team's bacon. 2. Just in case anyone is wondering: You don't score if you don't shoot. Might want to think about that the next time we're on the FING POWER PLAY! 3. Got passing? Anyone? Hello? FIrst we can't pass at all, then we pass too much. I understand the need to cycle the puck and why cycling is important, but what I don't understand is why it takes almost half of your powerplay to set it up. I don't think we made the Gopher penalty kill work that hard. 4. It's either a dive or a penalty. Either whoever it was need to go for interference or JPL for diving. You can't dive on a penalty! It's simply not possible! Did JPL dive? It's more than likely possible. The replays showed he was definitely interfered with, but I'm not sure what JPL should have done. With Adam, you never know what is going to be called and what isn't. 5. Kangas is good. 6. Hakstol had legit concerns but expressed them in an improper manner. The officiating was terrible. At one point Gordon went for interference when Chorney skated headlong into him. It should have been either a noncall or Chorney for charging (pathetically really). Clutching and Grabbing was ALL OVER the place. 7. I have no individual players who showcased good or bad really other than JPL and VV making a critical goal. I do think we played alright in our defensive zone. But this game was excruciating to watch. Didn't appreciate Malone or Zajac's antics. Especially Malone's. But the post game shenanigans was Adam's fault. With no fighting in the NCAA, he's the one in charge of keeping it safe, but.. as we all know, Adam has more important things to worry about rather than player safety, right Bina? 8. Beaurline (AR) grabbing Malone by the facemask and dumping him in the penalty box. Ummm.... Non suspension necessary, because Shepherd doesn't have the balls.

I agree. Woog was quite fair. The fact of the matter is, that goal was unbelievable because of how difficult it was to do. I very much doubt that anyone, Oshie, Trupp, or whomever could do that in those conditions multiple times straight.

I hate being a downer, but.... I didn't like how the Sioux played. First off.... Kaufman scores when the Sioux forget that the Gophers only have 4 players on the ice. Sure, I love scoring shorthanded, but that doesn't change the fact that the team on the powerplay has absolutely NO EXCUSE for giving one up. I don't care if you are the best team in the history of man or a winless joke of a team. You don't give up goals to teams that have less players on the ice than you do. Secondly, on the powerplay, you have to shoot. Especially with the next point. Thirdly, you must have solid fundamentals to win the game. Our passing was atrocious today. Lucia and Barriball at one point thought they must've had the wrong jerseys on because we kept f-ing passing it right to them! (Thank God for JPL) You MUST have a solid passing game. Wide ice, bad ice, adjustments need to be made. Maybe this was a lapse in coaching or maybe the Sioux players just played the game the same way they would on good ice and expected it to be the same? I don't know, but if the puck is bouncing around like that, then, unless I'm mistaken, the best way to minimize the bad passes is to decrease the amount of space between the puck carrier and the person who is to recieve the pass, no? A short passing game might have helped the defense a bit, but it wouldn't have turned over the puck as much either. I know a win is a win, Trupp played magnificently. However, the Gophers weren't playing well in their own zone and relied upon Kangas a lot to bail them out. Had we simply thrown the puck on net more, I'm positive we would have ended the game in regulation.

Maybe this is the event that signifies "rock bottom" for Hagemo. It sometimes take a life shattering event to make them come around. I had thought that this comeback pre-season would be a big help in it, but I'm starting to think that the failure of him to make a comeback did more damage than the prospect of making a return did good. His situation (injury not arrest) reminds me of former Ranger goaltender Dan Blackburn. That guy had tons of talent and and arm injury basically ended his dream. I hope he hit rock bottom so he can head back up into happiness and a new life.

I sound like a broken record but.... Ummmmmm... have you checked out the slogun for FSN North lately? Last time I checked it is "Where Minnesota comes First." Or something to that effect. If FSN North has that for a slogun, why are we so upset about Gorg or whoever giving more lip service to Gopher recruits? This isn't ESPN we're talking about. It's a regional sports network BASED IN MINNESOTA. Don't get so upset that they didn't mention Gleason. Please, they're not going to brag at all about a player who is bound for somewhere other than a Minnesota team unless you are talking about individual performance based upon the game that is being aired at the time.

How about: Tom Brady is still Limping!

What do you mean Sid knows nothing about college hockey? He knows plenty! Just ask him!

That's GOLD right there.

You can't change it overnight. In fact, you can't change it this season. What you do install is new administration. This administration comes in and makes two immediate changes, even before making individual personnel decisions (like hiring and firing officials): 1. Immediate and thorough implementation of NCAA rules and guidelines, including crackdowns, with the assumption that the WCHA is the reasoning behind the crackdown. 2. Install a head of officials with the understanding that the officiating is the only barrier separating the WCHA with true dynasty-like greatness.

Unfortunately, the dichotomy exists and will continue to exist. Dichotomy being: What we deserve and what we get will be different and entirely independent entities or ideals.
