He looked good. Moorhead native Matt Cullen had a great game. Cam Ward was a stud. Mild Hockey is back.

Careful, this is Captain Obvious' badge: Nah, I'm just kidding Goon. But still...

Well, they can't screw that bracket up, can't they? AZ- I'm not that petty. Besides, UMN winning one round isn't all that bad. Plus, we get to see Miami win the Whiners of the Week honors.
-
Now Albany is the easiest. I know that no one here is much for the Gophers, but how awesome would it be to see Minnesota defeat the "dynastic" Miami Redturkeys? I think it would be awesome. CC and UNH now have the toughest opening round opponent. UND has the toughest regional. My opinion anyways.
-
Understandable, but I'm not sure I'd call a concussion of any gradient a "weak" injury. Didn't Kaip suffer a concussion of some sort and then took the rest of his freshman season to overcome the after effects?
-
My 3rd(?) day's take on the Monday's news: This bracket is seriously favoring CC. Providence will put up less resistance than tUMD would (please, they are only sub .500 because they don't have finishers). IIRC Army would face Minnesota (or is it Miami?)! Either way, Minnesota could put Frazee or even Solei in net and still win. CC would then crush Minnesota. If that turns out to be the final bracket for that regional, an early congrats to CC.

Crap. SOrry about my inability to remember names of owners of crappy teams. Whoever owns the Timberwolves and Kevin McHale then.

BullBLEEP. McLeod and Shepherd are to the WCHA as Gene Taylor and Kevin McHale are to the NBA. They're either both going to go or not at all... at least until proven otherwise.

I appreciate Speed_Kills' holding his tongue in keeping away from flaming LaPoint. Obviously, flaming LaPoint only shows pettiness and a need to walk away for a while. Chay Genoway is injured. I think LaPoint has a great opportunity to step up during this, sure, and has the skills to do it too. However, Chay is fast. LaPoint is big. Both have its advantages but expecting LaPoint to be a 1 for 1 replacement is ridiculous. Who has to step up? Robbie Bina. Yeah, he's played well, but he's somewhat stagnated lately offensively. He's a senior. He can pick it up. I say let LaPoint continue to grow and finish up his freshman year with 100% fan support. Same thing with Marto. IIRC, the best games LaPoint has played has been with Marto as his defensive partner. Maybe we should cheer for their opportunity while we hope for a speedy recovery by Chay. Oh, and Marto's not a 1 for 1 replacement for Chay either. Marto isn't as fast, doesn't have as great of a shot as Genoway, and isn't even the third best outlet passer on the team. Genoway has been the best defenseman all year for the Sioux. Chorney and Finley have had great outlet passing (Genoway has the total package). LaPoint's outlet passing is good and is improving. Marto's outlet passing is decent as is his puck carrying skills, but he's no better than LaPoint IMO.

From what I know the BCHL is a more offense-laden league whereas the USHL is defense-laden. I don't know where the SJHL fits into all of this. Only that Kaip's team, the Notre Dame Hounds, are a pretty good team, if not the best team historically in that league.
-
Better to share it with CC than some other teams in the WCHA.
-
I wonder if Hextall's UND career will mimic Kaip's. IIRC, Kaip scored well in the SJHL before coming to UND and then his offense dropped off to the point where posters were asking what Hak was thinking when he compared Kaip to McMahon. His junior and senior seasons, however, were (are) HUGE for the Sioux. He certainly is now just as well liked, imo, as McMahon was. I'd love to see that production continue at UND, but I'm just not sure it will translate. You never know though.
-
I too think the CC will take the McNaughton. I hope we get the Broadmoor AND #8. As usual, I'll take a good showing as long as we're the last WCHA team standing.
-
Precisely. I couldn't agree more. And he did pick it up. I wonder if LaPoint will be teamed back up with Marto or will they go with something different.

Or two minors and a 10 min misconduct...

Since I'll be at the Saturday game, here's another question: Who else is going to be there and I can come down and harass? Sioux-cia? Goon? Hockeymom? I'd like to meet a lot of ya. Neat thing is I get to take someone to a Sioux game who has never been to one before. Always a fun experience.

My concern with Roe is this: Roe hasn't been DQ'd yet for Fighting. Most of ours have. Finley is the only one who hasn't. Roe won't go after Finley. So what is going to happen Saturday if Roe decides to try to pick a fight with Radke or Malone? I know Kaip would skate away, but Radke and Malone are emotional guys. Also, with an injury to Genoway, we can't afford to lose any more D, even for one game.

Is this the Irish trophy? Or this one?

And here I was thinking of the former WCHA official turned Director of Little REA Goodell.

Precisely. Here's my weekend grading wrap up: Offense: C -- Ok, this is harsh, especially considering UMD's defensive play and goaltending, but I think we could have done a lot better in this category. Defense: A- (A+ Saturday, B+ Today) - Overall, we did fine in this category. No really costly mistakes despite my opinion of UMD holding the advantage (especially Sunday) in scoring chances. Goaltending: A+ - JPL only gives up one goal all weekend long. It will be JPL vs. CC's Hillen for Defensive POTW. PK: A+ I think we're now at the point where it doesn't matter if we go down a man for 2. I truly think we'll kill it off. Sure, if anyone can score on us on the PP, it is SCSU, so we have to be careful, but this is truly a magnificent special team. PP: D (C+ for Saturday, F for today) - Yes, I'm harsh on this but I don't see how we can not only NOT play well with a man up, but manage to play so poorly on Sunday that I was thankful for the 4 on 4 play. Today's effort was awful. Seriously, for as many PP's as we were given (enough to warrant whether or not we actually deserved a lot of them), we should have played better. Once again, it shouldn't take us 2+ minutes to register a SOG on a 5 minute major. Discipline: C+ - We took some dumb penalties this weekend. Lucky for us, UMD took more. UMD's grades: Offense: B- (C for Sat. A- for today) - It's hard to speak highly of an offense that doesnt finish, but they produced a ton of quality chances this weekend. Defense: A- - They played well. They played with desperation. They played aggressive but didn't allow much all weekend long. Simply magnificent play. Goaltending: A - Should have been an A+ if it weren't for the giveaway that ended up tying the game (I think it was Stalock's pass that was picked off). I can't imagine where UMD would be without Stalock. After watching him play, he has to be right alongside Mannino, JPL, and Bachman when it comes to top NCAA goaltenders. PP: D - It might have been UND's stellar PK unit that made them look bad, but they were very ineffective. They didn't give up many shorthanded chances except for one today. PK: A - Did what they had to do. Clogged up the passing lanes and really drove us nuts. Discipline: D- Terrible job of staying out of the box this weekend.

What are you trying to say here? They showed pictures of Chay and Evan today on TV. Both had bandages wrapped much like casts on. Evan's leg was elevated and placed on a chair and he had crutches. I'm inclined to believe the rumor about a broken bone. Chay had his arm wrapped from his wrist to assumedly his elbow and his arm in a sling. I don't know about you, but if he hurt his wrist, would they really imobilize the entire arm? Something tells me this isn't a wrist injury...or worse, not only a wrist injury. Either way, I fear both will be out significant time.
-
What do you mean? Shepherd would probably have issued an apology, told Thul he was a bad bad man, suspended him for a weekend's work on a weekend he wasn't scheduled to work anyhow, and called it good. What is Goodelled?

Let's chant it together: WE GOT LU-CKY! Clapclapclapclapclap
