  1. Lowell did acknowledge that staying North Dakota was far and away the most popular choice. Like I said, if you are going to bring the far and away favorite this far in the game and then just cast it aside you are going to end up with a name that many will consider invalid. I can live with Roughriders if it garners more votes than "North Dakota" among Alum, current students, faculty, and/or those who have contributed to the cause.
  2. Anna Burleson, Forum News Service -- The committee was split on whether to continue to play as "North Dakota," with members Landon Bahl, Chelsea Moser and Lowell Schweigert speaking out against it while Dave St. Peter was in favor of discussing it further. "Now I think is the time for some courage and the popular choice based on what was submitted during April, obviously to all of us, if you look at numbers, is 'North Dakota,' but popular isn't always the right choice," said Schweigert, a UND alumnus and committee member. "North Dakota" received 21 points when the committee voted on the name with St. Peter awarding 8, the most, and Bahl awarding -8, the least. Begs the question. what is the annoying emcee dude doing on this committee? The fact that he can basically cancel out the vote of St. Peter makes about as much sense as Lakes bison possibly getting to vote on our future name.
  3. Alum, students, faculty, donars.
  4. So there isn't going to be a vote? I would have actually been fine with that as I said from the start. form a committee and hire local consultants to pick a name, no public vote(sure, send out surveys to alum and students but that's it).....not pass the buck and turn it into a complete cluster f%$# that this has been. Should have just had the committee formed, left out the wasted money on the consultants and brought in a few people locally with experience in the marketing business like UND alum Jason Loney of Scheels who has a little experience with Pro and College licensing and a couple key people from any of the following large regional companies whose job is to work with logos and designs like CI Apparel, S&S(Brad Ness is another alum), Lake Shirts, etc.(I left out a couple companies including mine). Narrow it down to 3 or 4 acceptable choices and have those companies go back to their marketing people and art staffs and come up with some concepts and ideas rather than pick a name and then say "welp lets see what we can come up with" They gather the info, discuss it and announce a name and explain why they chose that name and it's over. Now they are going to end up with a name that the majority of people do not want since they dangled out the possibility of going by the current status quo of being The University of North Dakota and that is the most popular choice among the people who truly matter. Absolute transparency isn't always the best thing when you involve the general public due to the 7 out of 10 rule. It is to be expected though when any government agency is tasked with something like this.

  6. So which is worse? Choosing to go by The University of North Dakota and having The Fighting Sioux as the de facto nickname in perpetuity? or Choosing a nickname that is looked upon with disdain and scorn and having the Fighting Sioux as the de facto nickname for the next 15-20 years anyway(See Marquette)? I think, although by no means do I like the name for my School, that Roughriders is the only name that could possibly shorten the above time frame. If we end up something incredibly lame like Nodaks or Sundogs we will be going through the process of choosing a name again in less than 10 years. Bring back Explorers, add either the Green or Fighting Hawks to Roughriders and North Dakota. Put it to a ranked vote 1 through 4 on the ballot for UND students, alumni, employees, and large donars only and be done with it. The whole thing has been a clusterfuck and I just want it over at this point.
  7. No. The majority would have voted for something else. Are you trolling us with this?
  8. Well. You don't speak for me. I don't mind Nodak Nation as an occasional description but as name it is brutal. One of the worst left. At this point we should be down to North Dakota and Roughriders. And as much as North Stars is a far superior name to Roughriders, it is Minnesota's. I could have lived with Explorers even though 1 other school has the name just because of the marketing and design potential.
  9. No. No it wouldn't.
  10. Well. Maybe we could be the Raw Dogs instead.
  11. Pretty much my thoughts as well. They would be able to use an X by itself or X's for quite a bit of cool apparel and design ideas.
  12. Well the list doesn't look as bad when pared down to 15. Pretty easy to get to 6 I think. Blaze-no Cavalry-no Explorers-3 Fighting Green-no Fighting Hawks-no Force-no Green Hawks-4 Nodaks-no North Dakota-1 North Stars-2 Pride-6 Roughriders-5 Spirit-no Sundogs-no Thunderhawks-no
  13. Dangit. 4 strikes against me.
  14. I am considering applying for this position. I figure I have 3 things working against me. 1.I do not have an advanced degree. 2.I possess common sense. 3. I am not tone deaf to the real world around me.
  15. And having 2 stud running backs and a stud fullback to join the QB in the backfield didn't hurt either.....not to mention Wide Outs who didn't mind not catching balls but relished blocking downfield.....growing up a Nebraska fan I have to admit I was a fan of watching the option offense.
  16. I remember having 2 conversations on this back in the day. One with a couple guys who were pretty tight with the Bison program and another was with a UND coach and both had similar take on it. Mostly with having a lot of scholarships tied up in QB's as they got hit a lot and you had to have depth for current roster as well as for future, RB's since you had to have good depth as even on plays you didn't run the ball you usually had more blocking assignments than a traditional RB may have as you were usually helping on linemen or getting to the linebackers and secondary....so you had to play quite a few RB in every game and again have depth in case of injuries, and you needed several Linemen as running option is a pretty active offense for linemen as well and you needed to be 2 deep or at least have a solid 8 for every game and also be prepared for injuries as well and when D2 cut scholarships it made it tough for everyone who had been fully funding football at the D2 level and even tougher on teams who ran "option" type offenses. When Babich came in, one of the first things he did was to gradually move their offense in a different direction.
  17. I would agree that the reduction in scholarships at the D2 Level hurt NDSU more than many other teams. One reason has been mentioned here, but I think that while having guys that would be on your depth chart lining up against you could be a factor....I think the bigger factor was that the Veer was an expensive offense to "fund" scholarship wise and it ended up hurting their depth on both sides of the football.
  18. Sorry the whole thing went over your head. I have no illusions that UND will beat ndsu this year.....just pointing out that I was getting points from my arrogant bison buddies for games that at best were tossup games and a few that UND won by 2 and 3 touchdowns. The big joke back then was that the Fargo Dome was going to replace the turf with paper since the bison always looked better on paper.
  19. Ha. Well I never let their arrogance get in the way of making a little cash. Never got less than 14 points from my Bison friends in any of these games and went 13-2 against their "spread". 96 November 16, 1991 Fargo, ND North Dakota State 28 35 97 November 14, 1992 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 19 20 98 October 30, 1993 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 22 21 99 October 29, 1994 Fargo, ND North Dakota 34 13 100 November 26, 1994 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 14 7 101 November 4, 1995 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 21 7 102 November 18, 1995 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 10 41 103 November 9, 1996 Fargo, ND North Dakota 33 19 104 October 18, 1997 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota State 10 31 105 October 17, 1998 Fargo, ND North Dakota 39 25 106 October 2, 1999 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 13 10 107 September 30, 2000 Fargo, ND North Dakota State 13 16 108 October 6, 2001 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 19 7 109 October 12, 2002 Fargo, ND North Dakota 12 6 110 October 18, 2003 Grand Forks, ND North Dakota 28 21
  20. Talked to a buddy of mine who is an ex Bison player. He was pretty confident in giving me 45 points.
  21. Pretty common in College Basketball.
  22. OK. That's enough. It is time for an adult to publicly tell these people to "Shut the !@#$ Up".....respectfully of course
  23. by whose definition? Union had 2 of the best defensemen in the country and 1 of the best forward lines in the country. Providence had the guy coming into the year being lauded as the top goalie in the nation and they were preseason #4 or #5. Funny thing is that if the NCAA hadn't messed around with the pairings and locations their is about a 90% chance that Providence would have been 1 and done.
