When/If Fighting Hawks win since that is what is rigged to happen...
petey23 replied to 01grad's topic in UND Nickname
Well the first 2 years I had my seats in 110 right next to the student sections. So when the students stood I either stood or looked up at the screen. Loved being in the atmosphere and most nights I would usually only be there for a period as we would usually venture up to the bar and sit in the 2 barstools next to my friends seats or his if he texted me and told me that his were open that night...toward the end of year 2 they started to crack down and check tickets to get into that section. Moved my seats to where I like to sit at most any hockey game...end where we shoot twice at an angle but close enough to center to look right down the glass. Would be tough to give these up. 106, 2 rows down from entrance. -

Hey. That's where my tickets are. -
I think if the vote between the final 2 is less than a percentage point that we should just share and use 1 name for certain things and the other for other things.......why not at this point?

I would hope the new logo would be fresh and young looking as the target audience will be current and future students and young fans of UND....as an alum, myself and most others in my group will continue to wear Fighting Sioux gear and UND gear and anything I buy in the future would likely promote UND. I do not see myself purchasing any apparel or merchandise that has the new name/logo on it unless if is very understated within a cool design. -
The problem is that everyone of these names sucks when they stand on their own other than North Stars which isn't really a viable option. The only time any of the names suck less is when they are in a group with the other finalists and at that point everyone has an opinion or reasons as to why their selection sucks less.......now I know what it must feel like to vote for the NDSU homecoming queen.

How should I vote then if Roughriders was my 4th choice of the remaining 5 and not in my top 10 before the cut to 5? Thanks in advance!

Finally, some people are starting to figure it out. I said this when they announced the finalists.....not even blow it up, but rewind and reboot.

You could still make a pretty similar logo to the "faux" Hawk that is out there. Change the colors and a little bit of design work.

True. But most people don't look 30 years ahead.

Unfortunately they are kind of caught in a catch 22 right now. With Wisconsin and Michigan State at low points in their programs and Ohio State never really being 100% committed to winning, and Michigan a little down when the Big 10 conference began playing hockey that left Penn State who is doing things right and building excitement around their program....but they are a new program with some growing pains and Minnesota who was and is one of the premier programs in college hockey to carry the flag. The first season was mediocre as a conference and last season was a complete disaster so now they are at the point where these kids that are being recruited and worried about their development and listening to their "family advisors" are thinking twice about the Big 10 as they won't be facing top competition as often as they would in Hockey East and the NCHC. With the conference on a definite down cycle right now the best thing that could happen would be for a few additional schools to add hockey to build some excitement. Every other school in the conference has at least 1 if not 2 club hockey teams currently. Iowa has quite a few USHL teams and Lincoln draws extremely well so Iowa and Nebraska would be naturals as would Illinois and Indiana.

Well if you are in Minnesota and tell someone you are from North Dakota, they might say Nodak huh? But if you cut them off in traffic and they see your ND plates it's fu$&ing Nodak. Kind of like my friends in Bismarck used to do during the Class b basketball tourney when you inevitably met traffic going the wrong way on the one way streets...fu$&ing B-sters......having lived in Hillsboro, Litchville, and Linton before moving to Bismarck I of course didn't comment.

Let's take a more realistic look at the vote just so we know how popular the new name will be and why I say that none of the remaining names are strong enough to have the staying power to be around in 10 years......we will have a different name than what comes out of this fiasco whether that happens by a voting process or a groundswell of support after a name organically evolves like this one should have been allowed to do. Fighting Hawks......8.7% Roughriders.....5.9% Nodaks......5.7% North Stars......4% Sundogs.......3.6% People wanting to remain North Dakota for now/People wanting to remain North Dakota forever/People that don't care/People that don't care for any of the crap names that were selected for them to vote on/others......72.1%

I agree....kind of. Move the "Fighting" off of the Hawks and onto Nodaks. Replace it with Green or White or Prairie, cut roughriders and vote....OK, I know you can't cut roughriders but I would be fine with either of the other 2.

Could be many reasons. Some kids develop later....see Ladue, Paul Several NHL players and current D1 College Kids went through the NAHL. Some spent there junior careers there, some moved "up" to USHL. A lot of kids choose to play there, especially if they are maybe a late developer or realize they are going to spend 2-3 years in Juniors in all likelihood. A good example would be Taylor Richart who is a senior at Miami.(friends with the family and have know Taylor since he was about 4 or 5). He played at Blaine and was a bit undersized coming out of high school he tried out for the Force his first year out of High School and had the opportunity to stay with them and he would have probably been in the 6th to 8th defensemen role for them that season. He also had tryout with Aberdeen in the NAHL and chose to go that route. He ended up playing on their top D pairing and getting plenty of time on power play and penalty kill. Played a top 4 role for the Force the following season and had a couple offers(Air Force and a couple Eastern Ivy League schools as he is a good student) and was planning on playing a 3rd year of juniors until Miami offered him after a summer showcase.
