  1. Agree 100% with their ability to drive on anyone, but when several defenders collapse on them they need to realize this and find the wide open teammate. At this point the defense is in a scramble mode and thats when we can get easier shots. Hopefully thru coaching and experience this will improve. They are only 5 games out of high school and lhave already done things this year we never saw all of last year.
  2. Season is still young for the red-shirt sophomore class. I havent looked at any stats but I would say the true freshmen have taken the majority of the shots, some good and alot of forced shots. I would like to see the true freshmen kick the ball when they drive when they have 2-3 defenders on them. I cant hardly recall them kicking the ball to an open guy this year when they drive. Too many bad shots over the timber underneath. They need to locate Mitchell when then drive cause he is open.
  3. Very good win for the Sioux. Got alittle nervous towards the end but Anderson made all his free throws down the stretch. Three freshman on the floor down the stretch during crunch time and handled the pressure very well. Sac State had 8 JUCO players that were juniors and seniors and we had mostly sophomores and freshmen. As this team gets more time and experience by the time they are juniors and seniors they could definately make a presence in the Big Sky. Next Tuesday and next Saturday will again test this team to see what they need to improve on.
  4. As I have mentioned before and got bashed for it, all they seem to sign are guards. Next year another 2 guards have signed and no big men.
  5. Agree alot of promise in the future. Wisconsin was just way too big and talented. What concerns me is only 5 assists. Way too many shot forced and way too much one on one. You wont win very many games with 5 assists. This team must make the extra pass for the wide open shots instead of shooting or driving against 3 defenders. Hopefully they watched and learned what Wisconsin did. Regardless a very good experience for this team. Need other production from the other guys cause based on their bios they can shoot also. Maybe just alittle early career nerves for a few.
  6. If the Sioux can find a way to rebound against the much bigger badgers they can keep this game close. Go Sioux
  7. Looking at the stats: more assists(13) than turnovers(11). Not sure if that happened at all last year. Up tempo play was fun to watch and the freshman scored 39 points. Alot to look forward to in the future Sportsfanatic, Huff was very impressive but was sit a couple of times for forcing bad shots Once he realizes he has 3 guys on him and hits the open man he will be a great all around player. Starting five came out explosive and ended the game in the first 4 minutes with alot of energy. Look forward to what these guys can accomplish against Wisconsin. Go Sioux
  8. Its not negative. Just must work as a team and hit the open guys. Yes, we need scoring after watching game after game last year scoring in the 40's and 50's. To be really successful you need chemistry and that is hitting the open guy and making the shots and not forcing shot after shot. With 6 red shirt sophmores and 5 freshmen (2 red shirt and 3 true) I am very optimistic in a couple of years this will be a very good team challenging for the Big Sky Conference title. Not many scholarships left in the next couple of years so these two classes will have to carry alot of the load and be productive, which I am sure they will. Cant wait till Friday and Im sure I will see you somewhere in the stands.
  9. I heard UND lost and that Huff shot the ball everytime he touched it with several guys on him without passing to the wide open teamates. You must have chemistry and take good shots to be successful. We will soon find out in both areas soon. I can see this team doing great things in a couple of years. Still very young.
  10. Why was their scrimmage for Nov. 8th pulled from the schedule? Heard they scrimmaged South Dakota State last week? Anyone see the action? Starting lineup could be: Anderson (fr) or Webb(fr) pg Haugen (so) or Schuler (red fr) off guard Clasen ( Sr) forward Mitchell (jr) wing Benter (sr) post
  11. They obviously caught their mistake with Brekke and Schuler. They are now listed as red-shirt freshmen on the roster.
  12. I should not have used the word dominant. How about a very good big man to compliment all the guards. A player or two that plays above the rim. In my opionion way too many guards is my point.
  13. Just what we need another guard, NOT. We have 2 new point guards coming in this year and if he is added that is 3 point guards next year and several combo guards that can also run point. Why not recruit some dominant big men for a change?
  14. UND game is Nov. 16th not the 14th.
  15. From all the games I watched last year guard play was the dominant players on almost all of our opponents. Seems mid majors and lower teams are guard dominated. Only games where we are going to be really hurting with bigs will be like Wisconsin and Nebraska. Two true point guards will be a big bonus for us next year. From what I hear not only can Schuler shoot the ball but he has the highest basketball IQ on the team. This results into good decisions and not many turnovers. As we all know turnovers killed us last year. Seems now we have the ball handlers and the shooters for the next 3-4 years. I expect Haugen and Mitchell as well to have a break out year shooting the ball. Clausen will also play a key factor shooting the ball. When he shoots, he usually shoots very well. Playing time for so many guards will be a fight day in and day out in practice and produce better game time results. Go Sioux
  16. Wisconsin and Nebraska NICE. Northern Iowa as well. Very tough and very good road games for the men.
  17. Automatic bid and a conference is huge. All I am saying is Jones deserves more time and once in a league where he can recruit on a semi level playing field with other mid major schools, then decide. I am sure he is getting the best players he can for the situation. Are these all the exact players he was going for, probably not. Im sure he was recruiting much better players but they opted to go elsewhere because of the transition, bid and conference. Has every recruit been a success, NO. You have to start somewhere and build with the successes and failures. The failures are with every college and every pro team. High expectations are seldon met from players. UND will have several solid players to build on these next several years. It only takes a couple of solid recruiting years to be on top and in some cases (kentucky) one year. Couple descent players from this years red shirt that played and hopefully one from the two that red shirted this year can make a difference. I really dont think any other coach in this situation could have done any better. Thats why I say give Jones more time and lets not start all over again for now.
  18. Star2City, Who sais Jones only has one year to prove this team? Its going to take more than 1 more year. Until UND has a league and can actually go into someones living room with the hopes of the NCAA , any coach will struggle with the transition.
  19. You've got to give a coach more than a couple of years, especially when you are making the jump from d2 to d1. When you look at this year the best player (bledshoe) was not at full strength until half way thru the season. With him full strength i say they when several of those games they lost. Injuries plaqued this team all year and they played 5 red shirt freshmen 20+ minutes per game. The young players hopefully learned alot. Prior to the last 5 games they looked to me like they had improved alot from the beginning of the year. They have talent they just need to learn to protect the ball and shoot better. Their shooting was inconsistant but when they did shoot well and didnt turn it over they looked really good. The coaches cant shoot or pass the ball for the players. I really think they will be fine next year and especially in 2 years. I believe its also alittle bit of a learning curve for the coaches.
  20. Why not the " fighting warriors". It does not specifically name any Indian tribes and the logo can remain the same.
  21. 90 points. Seems the offense is beginning to work. This team is looking better and better each game. Great job.
  22. Congratulations to Travis. The men are looking very good as of late. Very few turnovers and are shooting the rock very well. The offense is flowing so much better and faster than early in the year. Good job guys and lets keep it rolling.
  23. Excellent. This game is needed for both schools each year from now forward.
  24. Seems like they have plenty of guards. Sure would be nice to get a 6'9" or taller athletic scoring center with their final scholarship.
  25. Houston Baptist started the game with a 10-2 lead and opened up the 2nd half with a 15-0 start. Thats a 25-2 run to start both halves. They also shot 40 free throws to our 17. Seems like we are getting homered alot lately on the free throw disparity.
