  1. I always try to stay optimistic about this team and the direction they are going with such a young group. In order to stay respectable in this game they have to play their best game of the year and make the extra pass and hit a good percentage of their open shots. With Nebraska's size inside most of the shots I believe will come from outside with alot of 3's going up. We must make these shots from Huff, Mitchell, Schuler. Hopefully tonight the point guards will penetrate and dish to the open wings for once. Under 10 turnovers will be big also. Go Sioux
  2. obviously the mines are an up and down team just like us. They were up to South Dakota and only lost by 11 and up against us and lost by 9. Its basketball and you will have nights like this, but fortunately we won and thats all that counts. UND came thru at the end when they needed to and that hasnt happened much this year with this young team.
  3. Very impressed with how the mines played. See why they also gave South Dakota a close game.
  4. Ugly game but a win at least. The mines played very well and shot lights out for most of the game. The entire game all I was hoping for was a win and we got that. Looked like a team that had not played in 10 days. Mitchell hit big shots in the last couple of minutes. We need him to do this more often. Another good game from Brekke and Huff. Too many charges by the young guards. This is the 13th game and they continue to drive to deep and try to shoot over the trees. Anderson must realize he is 5 feet nothing.
  5. Hopefully many more to come for the sioux players.
  6. Could be a tough one for the men tonight. Greenbay is playing good ball as of late with their last game being a 14 point loss to Wisconsin. They played Wisconsin tough and the rebounding stat was 30 rebounds each against Wisconsin. 7'1" freshman center is playing extremely well and we are down another player (Goodman) who was injured in the first minute of our last game. Injury bug has now got Goodman,Wilmer,Mathison and Haugen on the sidelines and Clausen is not yet 100%. We will have to shoot extremely well tonight and protect the ball. This would be a very nice early christmas gift to all of us if the Sioux could pull out the win. Go Sioux
  7. Very good observation and I agree. Anderson, Huff and Webb need to kick the ball more. The screen allows them to penetrate on anyone guarding them but rarely and I mean rarely do they kick the ball. This is why we have games of 5 and 6 assists. I see guys standing wide open on the wings and the pt guards shoot the ball with 2-3 guys on them. This has been an issue of mine all year. Anderson has been block so many times trying to shoot over guys a foot taller than him. Most of our shots are coming from our point guards which is kinda strange. Our shooters need more shots to build confidence. Mitchell is not getting enough shots as well as others. They are young and hopefully thru coaching and experience this will improve.
  8. I dont disagree with you but again I think it will take some time. You've got to remember alot of the time we have 4 freshman on the floor and considering each one has probably never set many screens in high school. These guys (Huff,Anderson, Schuler,Brekke,Webb) were always the ones getting screens set for them and they would roll off these screens and shoot. Now they are being the screener and obviously do not understand the fundamentals of setting good screens. Also, our bodies aren't big enough to force the defenders out far enough to be effective. Hopefully this also will come with experience and bigger bodies on the floor.
  9. Most all the sophs and freshmen averaged more than 15/pts per game in High School. Haugen scored over 2200 career pts in 150 games, Schuler scored over 1700 career points in 98 games and Brekke scored over 1300 points are the most that I saw. Read an article on Huff during his final year and at that point he was averaging around 25/game. Brekke averaged 20+., Schuler averaged over 19/game sophomore thru senior year, Goodman was just under 15/game. Bios are not up for Anderson and Webb for some reason. Archer, Allard,Schuler,Haugen were all 1st team all state at least their senior years with Schuler being co-player of the year in Ohio his senior year.. They obviously all know how to score, its just a matter of them getting comfortable with each other and making the shots. I'd say Jones and company did a great job of getting these guys to UND for what they had to offer but its up to these guys to also improve and get stronger mentally and physically.
  10. Seriously what did you expect in only the second year of a full D1 schedule when all the coaches could offer was a scholarship. No conference, No NCAA bid , no tournament bids of any kind. The men and womens basketball teams have alot of upside with the freshmen and red shirt freshmen and the sophomores to build on. It took several years for this to happen and now its time to wait a few more years to see where it goes. So many of you want to fire the coaches, get rid of the current players and start ALL OVER again. You want improvement, well we have improved since last year alot in my opinion with younger players. Last year with a full D1 schedule we won 8 games and the rpi was 340+ with seniors leading us. This year we will win more than 8 games ( guessing 12+) and currently have an rpi of 304 with freshman 4 of the top 5 scorers. This shows improvement with alot of years for more improvement. If you didnt notice the Bison took control in the second half with 5th year seniors. Thats what UND is building towards. In two years we will have 5 fifth year seniors and 2 fourth year juniors and 3 juniors with three years of experience along with any other recruits that may make an impact. So, yes the program may not be winning as much as we all like right now but it looks better in the future and the administration ,unlike alot of you our fans can see this and understand what it takes. Look around at other attendence figures for established D1 schools and you will see we do better than most.
  11. Agree with green team. You obviously have not been to a single game this year. Princeton is GONE. Entire team is shooting horrible right now and once this comes around the scores should easily be in the 70's. I still believe alot of this has to do with 6 of 9 games being on the road and a really good schedule against quality teams so far.
  12. Dont know why the students are not more involved. Its really sad when the price of admission is free and they do not support. Its not like there is alot going on in this town to not atttend some of the games. I believe the last home game was better than I have seen for awhile. Maybe it will improve the remainder of this year.
  13. The men finally return home to host Mayville tonight. This should not be a repeat from last year. This game does nothing for the Sioux and wish they would take non D1 opponents off the schedule. Hopefully Clausen is healthier tonight and can play more minutes and Wilmer brings the game he played agains the Bison and continues to improve. Will be there to support the Sioux. Go Sioux
  14. Which one game did you go to in order to call all these players a bust. To make statements like above you must not know anything about basketball. The sophs will be fine and Schuler is not a sophomore and has only played 9 collegiate games. I personally like the way he plays. Looking at stats he has almost a 3-1 assist to turnover ratio (off the charts), We need someone that doesnt turn the ball over. Second in steals and is probably the best defender on the team. I like the way he always finds the open man and hardly ever turns the ball over. People Ive talked to sais he is a great shooter so Im sure that will come around because he has a nice stroke. Give the kid a chance. He runs the floor and team as it should be done in my opionion. He has scored 7 or more points in 6 of his first 9 games as a freshman. If he is a bust then almost every freshman in the country that has played is a bust. The sophomores are hampered by alot of injuries. Allard is going to be good once he is completely healthy, Wilmer showed what he can become in the last game, Archer is still bothered by his injury last year, Goodman has started everygame and has played very well with one game of 9 pts and 8 rebounds and Haugen is a very good shooter when he shoots. So why are the sophomores a bust. They are still young and learning. D1 takes time so give these young guys some time. They have also played 6 of the first 9 games on the road which usually makes shooting alittle more difficult. Could be one of the reasons the ENTIRE TEAM is shooting poorly right now. OLE I also see most of your posts are in football so that explains why you know little about basketball. How many young players have you thrown out in front of a train for their 3-9 season in football?
  15. I disagree with you. They are better this year than last with a much younger team than last. Last year leading scorers were seniors and this year 4 of the top 5 are freshmen. Two things are holding them back right now and both are easily fixable: (1) team concept. At times they move the ball around with everyone touching it and they get good shots but then they go one on one way too much and thus the scoring droughts. (2). shooting. Most all of these players were prolific scorers in high school. Look at their bios and its obvious they can shoot. Maybe they are pusing too hard and just have not got the feel of college ball yet. This will eventually come around. Once they get playing as a team and their shooting percentage starts hitting 40+ percentage they will be in every game the rest of the year.
  16. Well said. More and more talent will come as we move into the Big Sky. What has UND had to offer these past 3 years of D1 basketball to the players, basically nothing. Watching these 5 freshman I believe Jones and company has gotten some real good young talent they can build on and with the affliation to the Big Sky will continue to build. UND is very fortunate to have this class to build. They are fighters and play hard and at this point is all you can ask when as said above they are basically playing for nothing. Go Sioux
  17. Its called 5th years senior playing against freshman. No one expected the Sioux to hang with the Bison in this game so why is everyone jumping on the players and coaches. It just showed in the first half that this team down the road can be very good. UND had no practice in this dome and if you ever played basketball shooting in this type of setting is very difficult. Im sure the Bison practiced for several days and got used to the back grounds. So many of you call yourself fans and just cant wait to butcher the players and coaches. All these players are solid players that just need experiences like last night to improve. To me the guards are still playing selfish and taking alot of bad shots. There are always open guys when they drive and force up shots. This is the one area the coaches need to make sure this does not happen as often. Wilmer showed his potential as a big man but still has work. Once Clausen is healthy and Allard gets going for league action they will be right there this year. The guards can shoot and will eventually find their touch. Go Sioux
  18. Obviously you have not watched a Sioux game this year. They dont run the shot clock down like last year at all. Its a much more up tempo game with alot more athletic players than in the past. The other problem right now is that 4 of the 5 top scorers are freshman and they are going thru some rough streches in everygame scoring. Its not from holding on to the ball at all. The coaches have done a good job getting these freshman and having the confidence playing them. The Sioux were not that good of a D2 team in the years prior to Jones and company. Too many people live on the memories of 20+ years ago and must realize it takes time for the transition and UND has a good young group of players that with experience and time will only get better.
  19. Are you saying you are equal to Wisconsin? Bison by 30 come on. UND has played much better teams than the Bison this year and kept it within double digits with the exception of a few minutes. Northern Iowa is a much better team than the Bison and the Sioux were down only 1 with 11 minutes to go and lost by 12 I believe. Dont underestimate our young team cause it will make you look foolish in the end. Hate to say Bison should win but I still believe the Sioux will stay close and could pull out the win.
  20. Any idea what the attendence figure might be?
  21. Goodman and Schuler were 5 of 9 from three in the loss to Monmouth. Maybe this will get the two of them going after a slow start. Shooters will always be up and down regardless of who you are thats why you need inside support and rebounding on off nights. This team has little choice but to chuck up threes with no inside scoring. They will be fine.
  22. Let see if I got this right for next year. POINT GUARDS(1) - Anderson, Webb SHOOTING GUARDS(2) - Schuler,Haugen, Gentry, Benton SMALL FORWARDS(3) Goodman, Huff BIG FORWARDS(4) Allard Mitchell POST (5) Wilmer, Brekke,Archer This is the 13 scholarship players on the roster. Basically we have 8 guards and Allard can also shoot the three. A major bottleneck at the off guard position(shooting guards). Lots of talent in the guard positions but alot of guards will not be happy with playing time. Maybe you move one of the shooting guards to small forward. Which post player can step up and provide the necessary help for all these guards? Agree coaches have alot of tough decisions. Go Sioux
  23. Agree we need bigs, been saying for a long time. Game after game we get dominated inside. We cannot score on the inside nor can we stop the other teams bigs when they get the ball down low.
  24. Northern Iowa just beat the 6-0 Iowa State by 6 last night at UNI. That just shows we are not that far from being a very good team with so many young players. If not for about 5 minutes in our game with UNI we could have won that game. Go Sioux
