University of North Dakota Hockey 2019-20 Season

This was always my response to the Fire Berry crowd, we're not far off and I think we will see the fruits of his labor(recruiting) this year and the next. 8-1-2 is a lights out start and I'd put odds on them taking at least 4 points with a chance of a sweep vs SCSU. Then we can put a pounding on a reeling Gophers team in Mpls and take care of an injury depleted WMU team to end the 1st half somewhere around 13-2-2 or 12-3-2 IMO. I'm not big on crowning teams before Christmas but this team has the pieces to be special and make an honest run at #9. We are lucky enough that we get to enjoy the ride. -
And beautiful saucer passes for days. Like NHL level saucer passes that hit the tape time after time.

Yes sir! A beer and 2 whiskeys deep, 67 degrees in Denver isn't too shabby either! -

If anyone has a line on 2 tickets for the game on Saturday, let me know. I've secured Friday but the DU website doesn't have 2 next to each other for Saturday, must be a lot of Sioux fans going. -

Thanks for the heads up, booked my flight last night because how can you pass that deal up? #AlwaysAHomeGame -
No recent hardware though, that's what I'm concerned about. Who will bring out the best in our team come tourney time? We'd make more tournaments with the schedule on the left over the past 3 years but we'd also get subsequently bounced by the teams on the right because we've been playing in an inferior league.

If our defense plays like we did Friday, we can sweep. If it plays like it did Saturday, we can be swept. -
Wow that's a great callback haha in other words, don't get too high or too low on a commit. The coaches saw something with Pinto and they were 100% right.

I'd argue the NCHC prepares its teams for the NCAA tournament even better than the old WCHA did. It provides us with more speed and skill week in and week out. And you really have to perform some Simone Biles' level mental gymnastics to convince yourself the current Big10 is on the same level as the NCHC since its inception. Look at the results any which way over the past 5 years. I'm not trading that for an extra 500 people in seats every night even if that was factual(it's not).

Suppose we gotta find something to complain about being 7-1-1 with a team that can put the puck in the net. We could win out this year and someone on this site would complain about the glare of the trophy hurting their eyes.

That's what happens when you double the arena size. Not everyone is going to be there because they're big hockey fans. That's just the way it is and it wont ever change. I'd rather have the 6k people that are casual fans then have the upper bowl mostly empty on one side like last night(I know it was opener wkd but just sayin)

Miami @ UND -- NCHC play begins!

Should be a nice little boost after we sweep them at Magness -
Exactly; clean open ice decleater hits
-
One thing I really liked about last night was seeing the boys take the body. A few nice hits provided a needed energy boost for the crowd and the team.

I've played some great courses around the country but Pebble is still on my list, heard it's as good as advertised. The price tag is the only thing that will have me waiting a few more years to experience. Gotta do Ireland and Scotland first, Pebble is probably right behind those.
-
Partially agree as it relates to announcers. I'm not a fan of Joe Buck on the call but as far as camerawork, the US Open was revolutionary this year. The angles they got using drones was awesome and not the same angles we get every year at Pebble. IMO they provided a much better sense of scale of the place for those that have never been.

*unexpectable -
I dont think I'd suggest not scheduling them anymore but once every 2 or 3 years maybe? Leave some room for non conference variety. Itd be nice to have room to squeeze a team we dont see a lot of like a Quinnipiac, Union, Providence, maybe even a different WCHA or Big Ten team. Just my .02

I actually like going to Bemidji for games, mostly because we have a lake home in the area and it's a cool little downtown area with some good bars. However, I think the highlighted is definitely a valid point. At least this year we play MTech to bridge the gap a little before having Miami come to town.
-
That save to keep it 1-0 was massive, I was so bummed he lost his shutout after playing a great game. Let's keep it rolling vs Tech next week!
-
5-2 UND Kawaguchi, Pinto, Adams, JBD, Peski
-
I kind of agree, it's starting to feel like playing Bemidji is a lose lose for und. If you lose it's a killer, if you win yeah you were supposed to. All the while their coaches become intimately familiar with how we play, coach, make adjustments and can craft their teams and style to beat us. Speaking of adjustments, please take the drop back pass on the pp and kill it with fire. Bemidji had it sniffed out after one go round.

That's a good point, I was just pleased to see us play vs Mankato who is a veteran, quality team and it didn't feel like we were reacting and a step behind. It felt like that in A LOT of games last year, and it's beyond frustrating to watch our players just miss a breakaway opportunity or just miss an open net because they didn't anticipate where the open space was.
