  1. Saw Western Michigan play some in the CCHA semis and final. Goaltender was pretty decent but gave out big rebounds and wasn't the quickest side to side and also had some trouble high glove. They didn't seem to have to aggressive of forecheck and seemed to like to play a little bit of a trap, on the PK they had 3 guys stacked at the blue line and only sent 1 guy in the zone at all and not very aggressive. Their D are not as big as typical WCHA style d-men and they seemed to have a little trouble in the corners. Their forwards have some decent speed and skill, but if the boys play anything like this weekend we should be all right and I feel it is a good matchup for us.

  2. I'm guessing FSN will find a way to get the Gopher games from ESPN and put it on FSN or FSN+, but not sure if they will get both games Saturday or just the Gopher one. I'm thinking WDAZ will try and should be able to pick up the Sioux game though with the ESPN/ABC syndication.

  3. Just was on HF site for islanders and they claim nelson is going to sign right away. Contract is laready in place just need the ink on it according to a reputeable poster on the islander site.

I'm not bashing Nelson or saying he shouldn't sign I just don't think he will. While I know Nelson is a good player and has great statistics he still has some things to work on. Nelson will still need to put on some muscle before he is NHL ready and a lot of the opportunities he gets come because of Kristos play and teams focusing on Kristo. I really like Nelson as a player and person and have seen him play since high school since we were in the same section. I believe Nelson really loves the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux and has a lot of pride for the program and just don't see him wanting to leave that behind.

  5. Hope we come out with a lot of energy and get a good early start. It wil be key to jump on the early and take an early lead. I'm with the poster who said it wouldn't be the worst thing to not have to play 3 games in 3 days, but then again I NEVER want to lose to the gophers. I really hope we play physical but smart right from the drop of the puck, looking forward to see someone light up Rau.

  6. RE: CHL vs College - I thought these stats were interesting

    2009-10 - Minnesota State - 38 GP - 11 G - 8 A - 19 Pts - 27 PIM

    2010-11 - Medicine Hat - 56 GP - 27 G - 35 A - 62 Pts - 31 PIM

    2011-12 - OKC/AHL - 47 GP - 6 G - 9 A - 15 Pts - 24 PIM

This player had WCHA and CHL experience.

From the stats, it looks like the WCHA is a tougher league to play in vs. the WHL, which allegedly where all the skill players go.

The point is that there are no absolutes - both paths have pluses and minuses.

You can take either path and become an NHL star, or an AHL/ECHL/EuroLeague journeyman. One path gets you diploma. You be the judge.

Think I have a pretty good idea who this player is.

  7. Don't know if those numbers are accurate but yeah Warroad is notorious. They also conveniently get foreign exchange students that play hockey. Haven't they even had Canadian players? There is a reason Roseau plays AA. If I have my facts straight the whole section was peeved in the 90s and threatened to not play Warroad. And their boys will start again. Warroad only recruits when a Marvin is coming through. So it'll be happening again soon. I heard that one of the levels (peewee?) only has 7 players. Hometown kids are starting to realize that they don't get to play.

And I'll agree with MNStateofHockey (which is what I said earlier). They need to go to AA or in my mind have their own section/tourney. I know public schools do recruit, but it's not as often as some of these private Twin Cities schools. Actually heard Rosen on KFAN today with Common and he said they used to have some independent tourney. I guess this topic was discussed but I just missed it.

That number is accurate for girls team this year I talked to someone who played against them and a lot of the transfers are canadians. I know that is how they operate offer a job for the parent and get the kid, but I know most of the boys recruiting up there has stopped, but I believe Warroads bantam A's had like 10 players and somehow made the state tournament so who knows if it will pick up again or not.

  8. Not sure if they were recruited or if they decided to go their on their own, but 2 of Moorhead's better players in hockey this year are actually ND kids.

I know the announcer said during one of the games that Terry Leabos dad moved him from Fargo to Moorhead in 9th or 10h grade so that he could play for Morinville because the dad had played for Morinville in high school, probably a good decison for the kid.

  9. Public schools recruit too. Warroad does it. My best friends sister was recruited from East Grand Forks, she captained their team this season.

Yeah I know I played in the same section as them, however the boys team doesn't really do it too much anymore, but I think something like 13 of 18 players on their girls team this year weren't from Warroad.

  10. That would explain why they listed 1000 on the telecast. I thought it seemed a bit high, but I know the Strib was making a big stink a few years back about how they have been skirting the attendance and move to AA.

Problem is that MN does things backwards. They limit the number of big schools schools instead of the opposite. Since teams like Roseau and BSM move up it kicks some larger schools down like Bemidji a couple years ago.

Heard the STA kids and coaches have wanted to move up (and need to) for the last few years, but administration is against it. I know Bemidji opted up a few years ago and think they still opt up to play in AA now and would be A if they followed enrollment, not sure though.

  11. Coming back will DO him no good if he's that dominate. Me personally would move on if I was him

Coming back can do him good he will have a big leadership role on the team and will face a much more competitive schedule than what he played this year, plus its Minnesota High School Hockey...nothing like it. He could also play juniors before and after the high school season like Rau did his Senior year.

  12. It's really time for all the recruiting private schools to have own tourney or all in one section. Rediculous that STA has an enrollment of almost 1000 (all boys) and gets to play class A. At least BSM moved up to AA a few years ago.

I don't think they should have their own tourney, but most private schools should have to play AA with the exception of some who can't even compete in class A.

  13. He has no business in high school hockey next year if you ask me. Time to move on if you dominate like that. I couldn't believe how ridiculous that was.

If I were him I'd come back there is no way I'd be able to pass up on everything that is Minnesota High School Hockey. Its not like he is not going to be facing good competition as his team is going to an independent schedule so they'll be able to play all the top teams and not some of the bottom teams like they had to do in their conference.

  14. I would agree the Minnesota State High School tourney is a different level of hockey, but I don't know if the teams could beat college teams maybe with the way Benilde was playing and everything just seemed to go their way. Benilde and Hill probably have 3-4 D1 players each. On a side note a great story seeing Benilde win the championship with the whole JABS story and what a performance by Besse.

  15. Alexandria is his fall back plan. I would be shocked if he isn't in the USHL next year.

Watching him play I find it hard to believe he won't get an offer from somewhere along the way, he is so calm and positionally sound in the net, actually reminds me a lot of Gothberg when he played in high school.

  16. per @mnprospects on Twitter

"Charlie Sampair of Hill-Murray stated that he might take his chances in the WHL next season with the Victoria Royals."

    Big mistake IMO

Any idea what kind of college offers he has?

  17. Some uncommitted guys to watch at MN state tourney today

Jake Guentzel (probably not much of a shot with him) JR Hill-Murray

    Zach LaValle JR Hill-Murray

    Charlie Sampair SR Hill-Murray

    Andy Faust SR Hill-Murray

    Spencer Bell SR Maple Grove

    Meirs Moore JR Duluth East

    Trevor Olson SR Duluth East

    Connor Hurley SO Edina

Tyler Naane (Probably not a great shot at him) SO Edina
