  1. My opinion, so take it for that, but I don't think that Rodwell has shown top 6 skill. He is fast and pretty physical. If he earns it, I could see him on a third line to start the year, but I don't think he'll crack the top six.

My gut tells me that he will be competing for an energy line role, which he could excel at.

In the situation where he is in the top 6 there really isn't a huge difference between line 2&3, but I get what you're saying he really needs to prove himself, but I do see the potential there.

  2. He's said he's not leaving high school for juniors. I'd suspect he'd go to UMD in 2014, but you never know.

Good I really hope Hill-Murray makes it back to the state tourney so I can see this kid play again I really loved the way he plays

  3. I think the question really is whether the coaching staff really wants Grimaldi at center which would lead to 3 pretty balanced scoring lines or whether they want him on the top line on a wing which could make it more like 2 balanced scoring lines.

The more I think of it the more I kinda like the idea of Rodwell and Rowney together, two big guys, can play physical, good speed and skill. I think if he can stay healthy Rodwell could be a guy who could step up his production kind of like Rowney did this year.

  4. I was very impressed with him as well. What year did he commit for?

Not sure just saw it on twitter, it looks like he doesn't graduate until 2013 though. He looks like the type of player who could maybe play right away though and I guess he could opt to play in the USHL instead of his last year of high school next year too.

  5. Blake Heinrich a defenseman from Hill-Murray has committed to Duluth, not sure how interested the Sioux were in him but I really liked how he played and his style when watching him play in the state tournament he looks to be a very solid player, good size, very physical, and a decent skater.

  6. Me too. Too many fans just like at stats to determine a players worth. Don't get me wrong Nelson had a fantastic year and I wish he would've stayed for his Junior year, but the fans that watch the Sioux consistently know who the best/most effective player on the team was this year and that was Danny Kristo. With that being said, if Nelson would have improved as much this offseason as he did last offseason, I think he would have been our best player next year.

Yeah I agree with you that I would have loved to have Nelson back another year, but some fans do just look at numbers and say he was our best player and a lot of times numbers don't tell the whole story. I'm not trying to downplay how good of player Brock was, but playing with Kristo and Knight definitely didn't hurt his numbers at all.

  7. I think Kristo coming back may have some fans on GPL a little worried, some of them are figuring he will still leave, think he is a headcase and using UND as leverage, and that he's not that big of difference maker. I may be in the minority but if I could only choose one who would be back next year between Kristo and Nelson, it would have been Kristo and it would've been a pretty easy decison for me.

  8. Leddy plays and I will seriously question the decision making of the powers that be.

I'd give Leddy a much better shot than Ballard, Ballard has really struggled and needs to get out of Vancouver and try to get back on track.

Maybe DiPuma as well last I heard he was still enrolled in school, but it seems to be a big question as to whether he was still with the team or not. Does anyone else get the feeling Dell may be staying? The Kristo decison definitely doesn't hurt the chances.

  10. Great news that Kristo is coming back, he will be a leader and a proven go to guy. Looks like there should be a whole lot of talent around the WCHA next year. I think the whole Nelson situation was he probably had planned to come back and wanted to, but may have felt he just couldn't pass up the contract offer and might have felt that was the best offer he could get. I wish Brock was gonna be playing for the Sioux next year too and he was a bit of an unexpected departure, but a lot of people figured Kristo was gone and he has decided to come back so maybe that balances it out a little. In the end you're always gonna have guys who leave early and you wish they wouldn't but I just appreciate what they have contributed to the program and wish them the best of luck in the future.

  11. I wouldn't think many prospective recruits let the jersey design influence their decision much. :)

I don't know Oregons recruiting has improved since adding all the different uniform combinations, I know a few people who have factored jerseys in to their college decison and I'll admit I thought about jerseys when picking a school, although that was just part of the factor and not the overall decider.

  12. Where will the remnants of the WCHA hold their postseason tourney? The twin cities is a natural place for them to hold a tourney too. Facilities may be too large, but it is a central location for them. Tech, Bemidji, Mankato, UAA, who else is in there now? Where will the CCHA go also, or will they combine with the WCHA. This may all have been discussed earlier, but I missed it. Can any one update me?

I believe the remaining WCHA and CCHA teams have agreed to form one conference together but have not decided on a name for the league.

  13. Was anything said about what its going to say on the turf? I can imagine maybe the Big Sky name and/or logo but the endzone will it say Sioux or would they play it safe with North Dakota.

No they woulldn't give anything away with the design when someone asked, just said the turf will go wider on the sidelines and would be much better for the players.

  14. That was a very sad excuse for a hockey game....Not the kind of thing to attract more hockey fans.

While this postseason has been a litlle bit of the bloodbath judging by the numbers the fans are enjoying it, playoff viewership is up by something like 30%, and the Pit/Philly game Sunday had something like a 50% viewership increase compared to last years game in that slot.

  15. As I said before if they come from outside the area either a parent has to move with them ot they would need a legal guardian to attend school here. I think the plan is to bring kids from outside the area ala Shattuck and make a allstar team to compete in Canada. I would not be surprised to Canadians come down even.

I agree if this team is gonna work the kids are gonna be coming from outside the area which I believe is way more likely anyway, I think they will have to try to operate the way Shattuck does.

  16. I disagree. I think a lot of kids from northern MN would leave their high schools to do this because they don't get the publicity they need at smaller schools most of the time unless they do make the state tournament or have an absolutely astonishing year

I think your way off, northern Minnesota hockey gets way more exposure than the hockey down south around the Shattuck area, but yet many players stay with their high school team in that area instead of going to Shattuck, in the end kids that are good get found no matter where they play.

  17. I said that an advantage for players to play Midgets instead of Juniors is that they can still attend high school in their hometown. You disputed that by saying they would have to make to Grand Forks and get an guardian or something. I then brought up the Nick Schmaltz example saying he drives to Chicago a couple times a week to practice with his Midget team. The answer to your question would be absolutely yes. There are 6-8 players from Bemidji that drive to TRF twice a week to skate on the hockey teadmill, I think if they are willing to do that they would be willing to make basically the same trip to Grand Forks to practice with the Midget team. I think it would be pretty easy to get this team together with just local kids. All the Grand Forks schools, Fargo schools, Moorhead, TRF, Grafton, Bemidji, Crookston, Detroit Lakes and maybe Roseau and Warroad as well. I would be very surprised if there isn't 20 players out of just those communities that would want to play Midget.

I think you are overestimating how many kids would want to do this. There aren't a lot of Minnesota kids who are going to give up their high school hockey career and the chance to play in the State hockey tournament. If this was a team in the offseason then yeah sure, but during the high school season you will get very few talented Minnesota kids whether they are from the area or not, in fact you probably would get more kids from outside the area.

  18. Can't wait! Would be nice to know what they look like, any idea when they'd release a picture or something. Also anybody know anything about the turf design?

I toured the Alerus for a class and we saw a sample of the new turf and I forget what he called it but the Fargodome got the exact same stuff and the guy said it is the best available, but he wouldn't say much about the design except for that it should extend farther on the sidelines. I think he said they will begin installing it after Grand Forks high school graduation.

  19. Not to sound rude here....but I'm pretty sure those things crossed his mind before he submitted the paperwork.

I'm sure they did, with what I have seen from his son I would guess he would go to Shattuck if Eades were to get the job. I was mainly just trying to find some more reasons for why he wouldn't take the job.

  20. Another thing that could maybe influence Eades a little is I believe his son and daughter are both in high school and play varsity hockey at EGF maybe he doesn't want them to have to move and would rather let them finish here and than he could look for a head coaching job elsewhere when they are done with school.

  21. I really think Guentzel will stay at Minnesota, I'm sure him and Lucia have had some conversations about how much longer Lucia will be doing this. If I were to guess I'd say Lucia will only be Head Coach for maybe another couple seasons and then he will retire and become a full time hockey dad following Mario and Notre Dame hockey.
