  1. I agree if this team is gonna work the kids are gonna be coming from outside the area which I believe is way more likely anyway, I think they will have to try to operate the way Shattuck does.
  2. I think your way off, northern Minnesota hockey gets way more exposure than the hockey down south around the Shattuck area, but yet many players stay with their high school team in that area instead of going to Shattuck, in the end kids that are good get found no matter where they play.
  3. I think you are overestimating how many kids would want to do this. There aren't a lot of Minnesota kids who are going to give up their high school hockey career and the chance to play in the State hockey tournament. If this was a team in the offseason then yeah sure, but during the high school season you will get very few talented Minnesota kids whether they are from the area or not, in fact you probably would get more kids from outside the area.
  4. I toured the Alerus for a class and we saw a sample of the new turf and I forget what he called it but the Fargodome got the exact same stuff and the guy said it is the best available, but he wouldn't say much about the design except for that it should extend farther on the sidelines. I think he said they will begin installing it after Grand Forks high school graduation.
  5. I'm sure they did, with what I have seen from his son I would guess he would go to Shattuck if Eades were to get the job. I was mainly just trying to find some more reasons for why he wouldn't take the job.
  6. I got the Hawks over the Pens as my cup pick, probably picked a little more with the heart than the head though.
  7. Another thing that could maybe influence Eades a little is I believe his son and daughter are both in high school and play varsity hockey at EGF maybe he doesn't want them to have to move and would rather let them finish here and than he could look for a head coaching job elsewhere when they are done with school.
  8. I really think Guentzel will stay at Minnesota, I'm sure him and Lucia have had some conversations about how much longer Lucia will be doing this. If I were to guess I'd say Lucia will only be Head Coach for maybe another couple seasons and then he will retire and become a full time hockey dad following Mario and Notre Dame hockey.
  9. Anyone else catch that the New York Rangers wanted Chris Krieder to quit on BC when they drafted him in 09 and instead head to the QMJHL. After finding out about this and the JT Miller situation I really hope none of our recruits are drafted by the Rangers. Wonder why the Rangers have so much against the NCAA, Stepan and McDonaugh have been very good for them.
  10. Not one of our recruits but I know we were talking about him during the Minnesota State High School tourney- Grant Besse will return to Benilde St. Margarets for his senior season. http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/143655 A good thing for high school hockey and love the quote from Besse "The thing that matters is just loyalty to the team. Before my freshman year I maybe wasn't as committed to the team, but after everything we've been through with Jack [Jablonski] and how close we've become, we're basically all brothers. I don't feel I could bring myself to let that go. I don't want to run off and play somewhere else and leave them hung out to dry."
  11. Really doubt that they were the only team interested in him from what I heard he had a spot on the development team if he wanted it, but didn't want to take that route. The main reason I'm so suprised he went to WHL is his dad is the Crookston coach who has been very vocal against players leaving early for the ushl and other leagues and hurting high school hockey. I thought he would play another year at Crookston with his brother and if he was gonna leave it would be after next season.
  12. This may be the biggest reason Brock Nelson ended up turning pro, Schlossman said it is one of the more lucrative contracts he has seen for a college signee.
  13. He is a huge prospect and he has cut his choices down to either UND or the WHL, he is supposed to be a for sure top 5 pick in the 2013 NHL draft.
  14. What I got out of it was kinda that he just doesn't care about school or whether he does the work, and I was told he was just plain stupid and not only when it came to schoolwork. I was in high school not too long ago and I would guess he was able to just get someone to do the work or compare answers with someone else on assignments and get by that way, I know thats what a lot of people at my high school did whether they were athletes or not, I mean I'm sure there were times where you get back from a game at midnight and you got homework due tomorrow morning and just say screw it and get the answers from someone before class.
  15. I found out some more information that may shed a little more light on Paul Bittner leaving for the WHL. A lot of players, parents, and fans are glad he's gone even though he was a good player and they wish his brother (will be SR D-man) and dad (Crookston head coach) were going with him. Sounds like a lot of team chemistry issues surronding him and the family not meshing with a lot of the players and some favoritism going on. I also found out Paul isn't a real big fan of school and has a fair of amount of trouble with schoolwork as a Freshman.
  16. The Wild will just have to pick up Parise and Suter to be their stars Does anyone else find it a little strange Dell hasn't signed yet? I thought he was close to a contract with a team last week maybe there was a change in his decison or anyone know what the holdup is?
  17. Hermantown, Duluth Marshall, Blake, St.Cloud Cathedral, Red Wing, Bemidji, Roseau, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Warroad. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of Crookston hockey since they were a high school rival and growing up I've played against them a number of times.
  18. I don't know if its a joke, they aren't a top team but they do play a pretty competitive schedule. I was really suprised by his move, I figured he'd go back to Crookston and if he did leave it would be to Ann Arbor.
  19. A potential future recruit is gone, Paul Bittner of Crookston,MN to Portland of the WHL, very suprising since his dad was his high school coach and a guy who has been actively against players leaving high school early. http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/143410?referrer_id=32760
  20. I don't think Minnesota would be a possible team if Danny leaves and is a free agent, I believe their GM said they probably wouldn't sign any college free agents this year because they are at the contract limit, also don't think Danny would go there because they are loaded with prospects.
  21. The Pittsburgh/Philly series is going to be explosive, definitely some great 1st round matchups and I can see a number of upsets happening.
  22. I think recruits from Minnesota like to play them, but it doesn't matter a whole lot to them. Its not like its incentive to come here because we play the Gophers and the recruit got rejected by them like it can be with other programs. The majority of our Minnesota recruits have grown up Sioux fans and really hate the Gophers and want to be here because that has been their dream growing up. Overall I think it may have a small impact because recruits want to play them, but definitely not a deal breaker for a recruit.
  23. Schlossman tweeted a few days ago that the coaches really liked the way Senkbeil played at forward and would probably keep him there. Also does anyone know if DiPuma went to school and is still with the team?
  24. Played against Welch this last year when he was at Mesabi, he had some success against one of our freshmen tackles using his speed around the edge although that tackle had problems against pretty much everyone, but against our more experienced guys Welch really didn't make an impact and seemed to give up on plays at times, but that could have been because we got out to a lead early and were up on them comfortably the whole game. Overall I think he can be a guy who provides a little depth and may be a spark in certain situations.
  25. The thing was he attacked the guy for no reason, I've played against Tyler in a few different sports and have friends that are pretty close with him and by all accounts he is a very well respected and good guy. I believe he now refs in the NAHL and left Providence to be close to home and could have continued to play college hockey closer to home, but really has a passion for reffing and thats what he wants to do.
