  1. Anyone else catch that the New York Rangers wanted Chris Krieder to quit on BC when they drafted him in 09 and instead head to the QMJHL. After finding out about this and the JT Miller situation I really hope none of our recruits are drafted by the Rangers. Wonder why the Rangers have so much against the NCAA, Stepan and McDonaugh have been very good for them.
  2. Not one of our recruits but I know we were talking about him during the Minnesota State High School tourney- Grant Besse will return to Benilde St. Margarets for his senior season. http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/143655 A good thing for high school hockey and love the quote from Besse "The thing that matters is just loyalty to the team. Before my freshman year I maybe wasn't as committed to the team, but after everything we've been through with Jack [Jablonski] and how close we've become, we're basically all brothers. I don't feel I could bring myself to let that go. I don't want to run off and play somewhere else and leave them hung out to dry."
  3. Really doubt that they were the only team interested in him from what I heard he had a spot on the development team if he wanted it, but didn't want to take that route. The main reason I'm so suprised he went to WHL is his dad is the Crookston coach who has been very vocal against players leaving early for the ushl and other leagues and hurting high school hockey. I thought he would play another year at Crookston with his brother and if he was gonna leave it would be after next season.
  4. This may be the biggest reason Brock Nelson ended up turning pro, Schlossman said it is one of the more lucrative contracts he has seen for a college signee.
  5. He is a huge prospect and he has cut his choices down to either UND or the WHL, he is supposed to be a for sure top 5 pick in the 2013 NHL draft.
  6. What I got out of it was kinda that he just doesn't care about school or whether he does the work, and I was told he was just plain stupid and not only when it came to schoolwork. I was in high school not too long ago and I would guess he was able to just get someone to do the work or compare answers with someone else on assignments and get by that way, I know thats what a lot of people at my high school did whether they were athletes or not, I mean I'm sure there were times where you get back from a game at midnight and you got homework due tomorrow morning and just say screw it and get the answers from someone before class.
  7. I found out some more information that may shed a little more light on Paul Bittner leaving for the WHL. A lot of players, parents, and fans are glad he's gone even though he was a good player and they wish his brother (will be SR D-man) and dad (Crookston head coach) were going with him. Sounds like a lot of team chemistry issues surronding him and the family not meshing with a lot of the players and some favoritism going on. I also found out Paul isn't a real big fan of school and has a fair of amount of trouble with schoolwork as a Freshman.
  8. The Wild will just have to pick up Parise and Suter to be their stars Does anyone else find it a little strange Dell hasn't signed yet? I thought he was close to a contract with a team last week maybe there was a change in his decison or anyone know what the holdup is?
  9. Hermantown, Duluth Marshall, Blake, St.Cloud Cathedral, Red Wing, Bemidji, Roseau, East Grand Forks, Thief River Falls, and Warroad. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of Crookston hockey since they were a high school rival and growing up I've played against them a number of times.
  10. I don't know if its a joke, they aren't a top team but they do play a pretty competitive schedule. I was really suprised by his move, I figured he'd go back to Crookston and if he did leave it would be to Ann Arbor.
  11. A potential future recruit is gone, Paul Bittner of Crookston,MN to Portland of the WHL, very suprising since his dad was his high school coach and a guy who has been actively against players leaving high school early. http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article/show/143410?referrer_id=32760
  12. I don't think Minnesota would be a possible team if Danny leaves and is a free agent, I believe their GM said they probably wouldn't sign any college free agents this year because they are at the contract limit, also don't think Danny would go there because they are loaded with prospects.
  13. The Pittsburgh/Philly series is going to be explosive, definitely some great 1st round matchups and I can see a number of upsets happening.
  14. I think recruits from Minnesota like to play them, but it doesn't matter a whole lot to them. Its not like its incentive to come here because we play the Gophers and the recruit got rejected by them like it can be with other programs. The majority of our Minnesota recruits have grown up Sioux fans and really hate the Gophers and want to be here because that has been their dream growing up. Overall I think it may have a small impact because recruits want to play them, but definitely not a deal breaker for a recruit.
  15. Schlossman tweeted a few days ago that the coaches really liked the way Senkbeil played at forward and would probably keep him there. Also does anyone know if DiPuma went to school and is still with the team?
  16. Played against Welch this last year when he was at Mesabi, he had some success against one of our freshmen tackles using his speed around the edge although that tackle had problems against pretty much everyone, but against our more experienced guys Welch really didn't make an impact and seemed to give up on plays at times, but that could have been because we got out to a lead early and were up on them comfortably the whole game. Overall I think he can be a guy who provides a little depth and may be a spark in certain situations.
  17. The thing was he attacked the guy for no reason, I've played against Tyler in a few different sports and have friends that are pretty close with him and by all accounts he is a very well respected and good guy. I believe he now refs in the NAHL and left Providence to be close to home and could have continued to play college hockey closer to home, but really has a passion for reffing and thats what he wants to do.
  18. He tweeted to Tyler Landman, former Providence player from Roseau,MN "Remember when you where a highly thought of recruit and then you flamed out" or something along those lines, because Landman tweeted something about the incident where the Gopher was kicked out last night. A lot of people very unhappy with Cardinal and thinking he is very chilidish.
  19. Don't know if this is the best place for it but is Ryan Cardinal actually associated with the Minnesota hockey program at all? I know I use to listen to him on the PA show sometimes, but probably won't ever again. First the stunt he pulled at the Final 5, now trying to trash former college players on twitter, to me he is a total tool and I have lost any respect I once had for him.
  20. After watching through these doors I definitely got that impression too, but like you said it is very understandable and really I'd be worried if guys didn't take the loss hard and you certainly know the players did, as well as coaches and the fan base too. I really don't think that had a lot to do with him signing early, but I guess it could of. His reaction was probably one of 2 things he may have felt they were so close and that coulda been more of a reason to come back for another shot and I think he probably was leaning towards coming back for another season after that game, but something must have changed. Or the Islanders had wanted him for so long and he already knew he was gonna be signing whenever the season ended so adter that game he knew it was the last time playing with the boys and playing for a school he loved. A lot of people were a little suprised by the signing including me, but I just think Nelson felt like this was the perfect opportunity for him and time to sign.
  21. Actually I mentioned that in my post too, Dell lost playing time this year compared to last year, and by most accounts he had a worse year this year than the year before. I really think he could be thinking about if he struggles there is gonna be more and probably better competition which could result in him losing playing time. The other thing with Dell is there is no guarantee he would get an offer next year, he is a free agent if for some reason he got injured or had a bad year there is no guarantee. I think Dell will be in the AHL and probably has interest from more than a few teams as there aren't a whole lot of college free agent goalies who are better than him, all in all Dell probably feels like this just might be his best opportunity.
  22. Popeye Jones says he expects son Seth to decide where he will play next season after U-18 world championships which start April 12th in the Czech Republic. http://slightlychilled.areavoices.com/?p=2083
  23. Brad also said he expects to see Knight return. I think if I had to choose one who was gunna leave out of Knight and Dell it would be Dell. I wish he would come back for another year, but can understand why he would take a deal. Dell is a free agent with no gurantee of getting a deal after college, he had a little bit of a down season compared to last year, and there are 2 very good goalies coming in to compete with him and he may have been worried about losing playing time as Dell lost playing time to Eids this year when compared to his 1st year. When Dell does sign I will wish him the best of luck and can see some reasons for leaving and just hope he goes to a system where he can thrive and has a lot of success.
  24. I agree with you he could have been a hobey canidate and you are right he has no run ins with the law, he is a totally classy, respectful, and overall good guy. I agree a off season program at UND would have helped, but I know a lot of guys like to come back and use the facilities in the summer and with his hometown being Warroad I would guess he may still be around this summer.
  25. I think one of the things that we are probably overlooking on Nelson is that he really isn't going to an organization with tons of great prospects. I would guess he immediately becomes the prospect their fans are waiting to come up next. While I thought and wish he would have came back and play another year while putting on some muscle, he may have felt like this is his best shot to get to the NHL the quickest with a fairly weak group of Islander prospects to compete against and not having to compete against a couple more top 5 picks the next couple years.
