Soooooo you do realize that Worldometer is basically a Wikipedia like site? You really think that is more accurate than a state public health department's official data?

Lol......TN Department of Health numbers or your mystery graphs.....okay. Now you aren't even trying.

Sounds scary..........except that's not what's happening. Ever wonder why the "everyone in Florida is gonna die of Covid" stories have dried up? It's because they have been dropping for a month now despite kids not wearing masks in school....etc. Same is happening in TN. The numbers are in decline.

Your article is flawed. For starters It's almost a year old. But, even in your article it says that England estimated the fatality rate as .9%.....in other words 99.1% live. If you are talking 1 in 100 healthy 30 year old people are dying, that's one thing. But when it includes people of all ages (and once again health levels) that changes it.

This. It is impossible for some people to comprehend that it is possible to support vaccinations (and even for oneself to be vaccinated) but still argue against what is going on with the mandates. And to clarify my previous post, no airborne respiratory virus has ever been eradicated. Comparing vaccines like polio and small pox vaccines which were/are stable for years to the Covid vaccines is disingenuous. It doesn't mean that getting the vaccine isn't a good choice for most people, but let's also not ignore the fact that Covid is here to stay and is burning through the vaccine barrier. Even if every single person in the US got the vaccine, unless you are willing to lockdown borders it just takes a couple travelers from India, China, wherever that has the newest variant to reignite the flame again in the US. And even if you lock down the borders to accomplish this, studies are ongoing to determine the prevalence of transmission of Covid from animals (i.e. Mr. kitty cat) to humans which according to CDC is currently considered low risk..... but it's not no risk. Advertise it for what it is....a way for most people to improve their odds of not getting sick enough to be hospitalized and/or die.

Most viruses and all respiratory viruses are and always have been contagious. No respiratory virus in the history of humans has ever been eradicated so the body needs to learn to fight it at some point or another. The science a year or two from now will be interesting when/if studies are done to see how weakened people's immune systems have gotten from hiding from not just Covid but many viruses. Will the guy that went to 77,000 Lambeau field maskless just get sniffles from a common cold while they person that's been sheltering his/her immune system for 2 years get buckled from basic common colds? With venues opening up should find out soon.
  7. Very nice for sure. For the amount of money it cost it should be nice though. At least they didn't screw it up.

I hope it isn't cancelled and don't think it will as numbers are trending down in the south....for now. But there does come a point where it's fair to ask if too many more hoops are added to jump through this close to show time if cancellation is a viable option. I'm guessing not because I'm guessing financially the game is already a success for UND with what seems to have been strong ticket sales. I will throw this out there that maybe someone can help with.......does UND/Penn State/ Big Ten currently have testing requirements in place for athletes? Because if 1/3 of Penn State tests positive or is close contacted out for a couple days on Wed/Thur that would end the game pretty quickly too.

Same could be said about almost anything. You can't 100% eliminate risk when it comes to losing/having personally identifiable information (including health related information) stolen and/or abused. That doesn't mean you don't take reasonable steps to reduce risk. One can argue where that reasonable line is......but even you have a line..... If it's not that big of a deal go make 1000 photo quality color copies of your driver's license (front and back) and leave a couple in every building on the UND campus. Just because a good thief can break into most anywhere, doesn't mean you don't take steps like have working locks, neighborhood watches, Ring doorbells, etc on your home to keep from being an easy target.

Thank you for trying to make a point because it brings up another thing people are overlooking. Those that work in the information security world know that not all spills are intentional....in fact most are unintentional. But I'm sure all of these low cost bidder 3rd party apps will have people safely covered.

It's all fun until the intrusion hits an area that you care about.....which eventually it will. Two years ago if you told someone to upload their medical information into a 3rd party app so they could show it to some fella making $10 an hour to gain entry to a college hockey game they would have told you to "f" off. These days some people are tripping over each other to comply with whatever they are told to do.

People are generally willing to go along with the examples you gave because they have a track record of dependability. Fewer people would buy into using credit cards to buy tickets for example........if 3 months from now 1/3 of the tickets purchased that way had disappeared and you were told you had to run your card again even though they weren't able to tell you if you were part of the 1/3 that had already lost their ticket.

The polio vaccine 70 years later is still 99-100% effective.......so just a wee bit different.

Fair enough, there is always a component of people that raise their hand during the initial planning process but are nowhere to be found when it's go time. However it's naive to think that a certain percentage of people aren't going because instead of fading away arbitrary rules/restrictions are still being generated (like Vegas opening up and then going back to masks). Maybe the rules change again and you need to be vaccinated AND have a negative test 72 hours before? Maybe children under 12 aren't allowed in at all because they aren't vaccinated? Maybe a new variant is identified that JnJ doesn't work against so they say only Moderna and Pfizer count. No one wants the goal posts getting moved again a week before they fly in.

Only if the event is cancelled. The Bridgestone Arena vax mandate in and of itself might not be the sole factor scaring people away. However it may have some people thinking "what's next?".

This. That is the point I probably didn't do it he best job of explaining. I honestly believe things would be very different with an impartial media.......but they latched onto this issue and (imo) are bullying whoever they can into compliance.

I always enjoy how people pick and choose when they want to enforce property/business rights and when they don't. Definitely happens both ways, but the pendulum is way overextended one way at the time being. I would say that I hope that the same people currently gloating because they are getting their way are just as accepting when the pendulum swings back the other way.....but my suspicion is they won't.

A guest essay in the Washington Post? Sounds unbiased to me. Come on be better than that.

At least one pharmacy that I am aware of has Moderna shots on demand so the timeline isn't an issue if someone wants to comply. The issue of whether complying should be necessary belongs in the thread that is closed.

Florida has basically peaked by letting it rip South Dakota style. The rest of the South is soon to follow. Not an argument of whether that was the right way to do it.....but the sooner the hump/peak passes the better chance things will be lightened up come Oct 30.

Sounds like a facility worried about liability. There is no way that a bunch of part time event staff will be able to tell real/fake cards or so the math. However, by at least putting forth the good faith effort they are hoping to avoid super spreader press.
  22. It will be like a Dickies was minus the horrible access.......
  23. The whole point of NDSU and UND are the physical experience they provide. Poor leadership that encourages students to come to campus only to be stuck in a dorm with 100% online classes (last year) or that enacts a mask mandate after students had already arrived will impact enrollment. You take away too much of that experience, students will just stay home and go online to a better and/or cheaper school than NDSU/UND. Maybe that is already happening.
  24. Has a player that was a captain one season not been "voted" back as captain the next season? Seems like it's kind of a default type of deal. And keep in mind the "friction" would have happened after he already had the captain-ship given to him.
  25. As for Weatherby's shot at playing in the NHL, is he really any better than a player like Poganski was? Seems like a similar decent AHL player that can't quite make it in the NHL type player but who knows.
