  1. Who is actually responsible for this restriction on UND's national broadcasts ? Do we know for sure ? Was this a requirement made by CBSSN or by the NCHC ? If this was required by CBSSN, who is the complete idiot that was involved in these negotiations from the NCHC side ? Why in he!! would the NCHC agree to a lousy 18 game conference TV schedule and give away the right to nationally telecast the other 94 games (assuming a 28 game conf sched) ? Whoever negotiated this should be fired immediately as they are incompetent. Even the mighty big10 does not preclude the members the right to nationally telecast games that the big10 network does not want. I have no hope now for the leadership of the NCHC and it hasn't even started yet. We left one conference because the leadership was pathetic and we start a new conference and we are no better off, in fact for UND we are much, much worse off. Please, someone enlighten me on what I am missing here ? The "wait and see" approach does not work for me, I can only envision webcasts and their crappy quality when compared to even a std def TV broadcast. Let's see, we have killed the Fighting Sioux nickname and we have restricted the TV access to Sioux games, what's next ? How else can we screw with the alumni and fans of the University of North Dakota ? Mr. Faison please come on this website and tell us why we should have any faith in what you are doing.
  2. Sorry, but this is absurd. UND loses 20-22 home games each year on national TV and will be replaced by 4-5 games on CBSSN. How does this possibly make any sense for UND ? What was the point in changing conferences, to limit exposure ? Can't wait to see St.Cloud play Western Michigan instead of UND. The whole conference will have fewer games on TV than UND had. This is brilliant marketing. Internet streaming is the broadcast of last resort. While it has improved over the years it is still not even close to standard definition TV. My choices for watching Sioux hockey (and it will always be Sioux regardless of the idiots who forced the change): 1. Live. Since I live 400 miles away it is difficult to go to all the games. As much as I try I cannot make it back for all games. 2. High-def TV 3 Std-def TV 4. Streaming Instead of moving from std-def to high-def, it looks like we are moving backwards to streaming. Yuk. What is UND getting out of this ? Money ? Doesn't look like it, in fact it looks like we have to pay to have CBSSN produce the telecasts. Exposure ? Nope. We are reducing exposure and will be helping other schools in the conference gain exposure. How is this helpful to UND ? UND is “doing what’s good for the conference.” Bah. I don't care about that. In the long run this will not help UND win National tiltles. That's what I care about. Maybe it will help attract other "name" schools in the future to join the NCHC if/when they start hockey ? Nope, don't see how that will help...see Notre Dame if you want any proof. No "name" school is going to want to join a hockey conference where they can't control their TV rights, just not gonna happen. He!!, even the big10 network allows MN to broadcast games on FSN if they don't want them. Someone please show me where this is a good thing for UND and how it will be helpful in the long run, I just don't see it. Initially I was fairly positive about this new conference. Then they went and added St. Cloud which was a big mistake, now we are losing most of the national broadcasts of home hockey games. This is absolute crap ! There must be other changes that are coming that will be positive...there has to be...there has to be....I know, just a matter of time until the NCHC announces the new Supervisor of Officials will be Greg Shepherd.
  3. I am sure that the U of M will be issuing an apology any day now (probably already done so, I just haven't seen it). A school as politically correct as Minnesota will in no way tolerate these kind of comments from the guy doing their hockey play-by-play. Heck, they won't allow "Fighting Sioux" to be uttered in their arena so I am sure they would be extremely upset to find out that Shaver use the term "hose heads" when referring to UND on the air. In case I somehow miss this apology could someone please provide a link. Thanks.
  4. They really expect that ? Not now, not next year, not for a long, long. long time, maybe never. They are shoveling dirt on the nickname coffin and he is already talking about expecting people to switch to the new "official team apparel". Show some respect for the Fighting Sioux nickname and don't even comment on what people will wear to games.
  5. I have now seen all I need to see of Frazier as a head coach...he is clueless in managing a game. If you can't manage a game nothing else matters, the Vikings will not win with him as the head coach. To not use his timeouts when Tampa was driving at the end of the game is complete incompetence. Left no time on the clock for his offense if Tampa ties or takes the lead. Absolutely pathetic. Childress would be proud of him.
  6. I agree, there will be a new nickname and logo at somepoint, whether it is next year, 2 years or further down the road. My guess is there will be a new nickname for the start of the fall 2012 season. Kelley said it was a great marketing opportunity so you know he wants a new name/logo. If he wants it then you know it will happen. As far as helping to choose a name, I want no part of that. I really don't care what they pick...besides, if it was up to me I would try to come up with a nickname that would be offensive to the NC$$. For me the nickname for UND is "Fighting Sioux" - today, tomorrow, next year, 5 years...forever. The only other nickname I could possibly support is "Fighting", then our jerseys could just use a large FU for the logo, next to an NC$$ patch.
  7. Should Notre Dame decide to go to Hockey East then I would assume Western Michigan will be out of the new conference. That would leave: Big 10 with 6 teams, 20 game conf sched. New "Super" Conf with 6 teams and a likely 20 game sched. Remaining CCHA/WCHA would be 11 teams, adding UAH would make it 12. Have one conf with 22 game sched or two separate six team conf with 20 game sched. This would leave many non-conf games for all western teams (max of 34 games not counting trips to Alaska, Icebreaker, or Hall of Fame game). Every team could still schedule a lot of non-conf games against former conf rivals. In the long run this may be beneficial to a lot of the teams left in the WCHA/CCHA as they would greatly improve their chances of making the NC$$ tourny, especially if they could form two 6-team conferences. Some of these schools that would likely never get a sniff of the tourny in the past would now go into each season with a chance at making it. They would still be able to get some home games against rivals like UND, Denver,etc...even the Big10 schools will have to have a few road series. If they form one big conf and play a 28 game schedule then that would be a huge mistake imho as It would leave little room for non-conf games and would probably ensure that some schools drop hockey. Over time having 4 conferences with six teams would provide plenty of opportunity for new schools to add hockey. The obvious danger is that with only six schools you can't afford to lose even one school or you jepordize your auto bid.
  8. If UND is not on the NC$$ sanctions list then Wisconsin will play them regardless of the nickname. That's why they played in basketball this past year. Not sure about MN.
  9. I don't believe the agreement and the efforts to get the nickname approved were done in good faith. Therefore I have no problem with any attempt to get that agreement changed or invalidated.
  10. There is only three ways I see any change happening in the NC$$ position: 1. Pressure from Congress. You can forget this one, ND politicians are worthless. 2. Lawsuit. There is no way this will happen now given the BSC statements, even if a case could be made. 3. If the NC$$ sees they could lose $$$ by maintaining their position. Start an email campaign and contact every business that sponsers the NC$$ and ask them why they support an org that is discriminating against native americans ? Why does the NC$$ not respect the people of Spirit Lake ? Here is a link to these businesses: http://www.ncaa.com/...ns-and-partners Seems that the ND state legislature got an awful lot of email on this issue. My guess is these corporations would not be too happy to see their inbox flooded.
  11. People with the follow names should start protesting immediately: Arlene Bret Cindy Don Emily Franklin Gert Harvey Irene Jose Katia Lee Maria Nate Ophelia Philippe Rina Sean Tammy Vince Whitney These are the 2011 hurricane names. This could traumatize little kids when they see their name associated with storms that many times take lives.
  12. So this appears to be list of invited attendess: Gov. Jack Dalrymple Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem Board President Jon Backes UND President Robert Kelley Athletic Director Brian Faison House majority leader Al Carlson Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem Why is Spirit Lake not invited ? They should be first on the invitee list. These people fought to keep the name when others were giving up. Not inviting them makes me doubt they are sincerely trying to save the name. If they really want to keep the nickname they would invite Spirit Lake and Hoeven and/or Conrad. We can show that the closest tribe overwhelmingly supports the nickname and then we need to show that we have the full support of the politicians, both state and federal. We then need to take the stance that we will not surrender on this issue and we will pursue every avenue to keep the name. Without this complete determination from all sides I don't see the NC$$ backing down. If all of these people get behind keeping the name then I believe we will keep it without any sanctions as the NC$$ will find a way out of this to avoid a fight. Without a serious threat of a long and involved lawsuit that might cause collateral harm to the NC$$ I don't see them changing anything. When the nickname policy was first introduced by the NC$$, Florida State's president was unequivocal in his statement: "I intend to pursue all legal avenues to ensure that this unacceptable decision is overturned and that this university will forever be associated with the "unconquered' spirit of the Seminole Tribe of Florida," Wetherell said. Our current president will not even state his opinion. I would prefer that he is not at this meeting unless he starts adopting the same stance as FSU president Wetherell. He seems to want to defer to the SBOE on all things nickname related therefore I see no point for him to attend. Open invitation to Mr. Kelley to show up at the Frozen Four pregame wearing a Fighting Sioux jersey. If you really do not oppose the nickname here is a chance to make a very public statement without even speaking.
  13. It's the same in the 2011 manual: http://www.ncaa.com/...frozenFINAL.pdf see page 25
  14. Definitely one of the "good guys".
  15. I highly doubt that they set aside 600 tickets for each of the 16 teams in the tourny. That makes no sense to me. My understanding is they set aside 600 tickets for each of the four schools that make it.
  16. Looking for 2-4 tickets all sessions. PM if you have any. Thanks.
  17. If the WCHA is really working on a scheduling agreement with MN/Wisc and it includes all WCHA teams then this will probably be the way both schools will get arond the nickname issue. If will be similar to now as they play UND cause they are in the same conference. In the future it will be "we are playing them because of a conference agreement. The downside is that we will only play MN one series at home every four or five years, and one on the road. It will only get worse in the future if the big10 adds teams. UND needs to make it know to McClown that this scheduling is not acceptable. We need to establish yearly games with both MN and Wisc right from the start if we want to keep the rivalry. If they won't schedule them due to the nickname then its time to move on, we'll see them in the post-season if they can qualify. If we only play them once every two to three years it is no longer a rivalry, just another game.
  18. Not exactly. He was on the ice and got a point 16 times at even strength. He was on the ice and gave up a goal at least 9 times at even stength. What we don't know is how many times UND scored at even strength while Chay was on the ice where he did not factor in the scoring (still gets a +1 for it). If that happened, say 10 times then it would mean he was on the ice for 10 more goals against. This also doesn't factor in shorthanded goals scored or allowed but I don't think that would make a big difference. I do agree that Chay is one of the more dynamic players and I too am glad he is our captain.
  19. Not to mention the blatant missed call in the first ot on Denver having too many men of the ice...I mean, how do you miss that ? Can the refs not count ? It was obvious to most in the crowd and when I watched a replay of the game it was impossible not to catch it since you could see six attackers for Denver right in the screenshot...maybe I missed it and they pulled the goalie for awhile. Very poorly officiated game. During regulation there were phantom penalties called, during ot they wouldn't call anything, even the obvious. Last time we see WCHA refs this year. This is both good and bad. Good because the quality of officiating is poor and inconsistent, bad because at least we know what we are getting...some of the other conference refs may even be worse when it comes to a physical game being played which could be a problem.
  20. Looks like DU can still get a #1 seed if they win and Miami loses to Western Mich and BC beats Merrimack.
  21. I tried to ignore Ciskie's picks cause they were boderline ridiculous. Leaving Frattin off the 1st team invalidates anything thing else he ever says. He should not be allowed to vote on this as he is a complete homer. Only two Sioux make his all conference teams ? Wow. How did Hakstol not get his vote for coach of the year then ? Somehow he won the league without anywhere near the talent level of UMD (4 picks + 2 rookie), Denver (4 picks + 3 rookie), and Wisconsin (3 picks). When you factor in that they did this without a goalie that was worthy of being in his top 3 it is truly amazing they were able to win the league (after all, Dell gave up almost 2 goals a game and only was .35 goals better than the next goalie). If you try to downgrade Dell and claim the defense is so good, then where are the defensive picks ? Genoway doesn't count as I would argue he not a defensive defenseman. Chuck makes a bit more sense but both of them picked Wisconsin's Craig Smith as 3rd team and both left off Jason Gregoire. Huh ? Please elaborate on this, I would really love to hear the rationale. In conference games only, Smith had 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. Gregoire had 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 points. Oh, he also played in 4 fewer games due to injury. He averaged 1.29 pts/game (7th in the league, tied for 4th in pts/game). Smith averaged 0.86. Not just a little difference, Jason averaged 50% more points/game. Also, Smith might have been the dumbest player I saw all season...for some reason he decided to check the Sioux net in the Friday night game...and then did it again on Saturday night and got a penalty. IMO, Frattin is 1st team and player of the year. Gregoire should at least be on the 3rd team and Dell has to be one of the three goalies. Blood should also be second or third team.
  22. I don't care how Kristo got frostbite, I only am concerned that it happened and that he get the best care so he can achieve the best possible outcome. Any contributing factors I'm sure will be dealt with at a later time by Danny and his family as it should be. We have no right or expectation to know the details. Whether he can make it back this season is of little concern, I just hope is is able to get 100% healthy and continue with his career in the future.
  23. I certainly hope Howe's injury is minor and that he is back for this w/e. I do question the coaching decision to leave him in the game in the 3rd period. I thought for sure that CC would bring in the backup to start the 3rd period and definately after the Sioux scored the 6th goal. Not sure what was to be gained by leaving your starting goalie in a game that was one-sided.
