This is fake news...Men's hockey does not lose money. This story does not include the 10 million plus in revenue that men's hockey generates yearly in champions club $, beer/concession $, merchandise $, parking $ etc. In addition, add in the exposure that men's hockey generates for UND which is really not quantifiable but certainly substantial. Next, add the $ to the community in taxes for hotels, meals, and shopping on game nights when nearly 12,000 fill the Ralph 22 times a year; half of these folks come from outside our community. Let's not forget about all the people that are employed because of UND men's hockey on game nights. Also, there are lots of $ coming back to UND from the men's hockey alumni that made it big in their sport. Hockey is a huge economic engine for UND and this community...as is football on a smaller scale; think homecoming weekend...there is no homecoming without football. Basketball is also an economic engine for the same reasons listed above but down the list from Men's Hockey and Football. Then you have Women's hockey and Swimming and Diving...sorry but it just falls way short of the sports mentioned above. Don't fall trap to Kolpack's fake news article, written only to stir the pot at UND and in Grand Forks. Nice attempt to downplay the financial impact of UND men's hockey and to make NDSU look superior in basketball and football to UND. Nice try Jeff, but this UND guy sees right through you and your attempt to once again shine a dim light over UND and Grand Forks.

Well my apologies then...I was told they were not. Still makes me bitter we had to borrow a high school band! -

Great effort last night; very proud of these guys, they represented UND and the state of North Dakota extremely well! Hats off to coach Jones and his staff for a fantastic job on and off the court this year. With that performance last night, UND would have beat a lot of teams in the tournament. If Arizona isn't lights out (only 7 turnovers) and shoots at a still very good 50% clip (36-62 58%) and both teams shoot 75% from the line (UND 8-16, AZ 24-28), that game goes to the wire. Add in a few tough calls against us by the refs too that didn't help the cause either. The boys gave them everything they wanted and the AZ coaches and players had nothing but respect and admiration for them. Now for what left a bad taste in my mouth...So UND goes to the big dance...the biggest stage UND has ever been on; the largest TV audience the school has performed in front of...and it does so without its band or cheerleaders? Really? It made us look like Sisters of the Poor! Come on! We had to borrow some pimply faced high school kids from SLC (God bless them for doing it) to be a make shift band for us. That is embarrassing. What made it worse was roving reporter gal actually made a story about it during the game for the whole world to see...ugh! I was also told that the band was not there because it is spring break...well it is spring break for the players too...and it is spring break for many of the other 63 teams in the tournament who brought their band to the dance! We won the Big Sky and knew we had a very good chance to go to the dance; the pieces should have been in place to bring the band to the tournament. -
2017 Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament

Just stating facts...yes not the competition at the High School level but don't downgrade them because of that. Like I stated they play these teams plenty at the Bantam and PeeWee level and all the good HS kids play in the MN elite league in the fall so there are plenty of comparisons there besides the high school season. Sure it's tough to get out of section; is for all teams. This Central team is in par with any team in the AA tourney this year -

Central scrimmaged Moorhead in preseason jamboree in Moorhead before season started, score in the 1hour game was 1-0 Moorhead but Central outshot them by a good margin...Central would have competed with any team in AA MN this year. 50/50 game with anyone in the tourney. The combined Bantam team, the GF Aviators, were #1 team in MN. If GF PeeWee had a combined team they would be #1 also, no question...each team on their own are top 5 AA in MN, combined team would dominate MN AA -

‪Grand Rapids and Moorhead play for AA title. GF Greyhounds were 7-0-1 against GR/Moorhead PeeWee AA teams this year. Greyhounds had a 14-1-2 record against MN teams this year. The other PeeWee A team, GF Seawolves had a similar record and beat then #1 ranked AA team Andover to win the White Bear Lake tourney. Lots of talent coming up in GF youth hockey -
If we secure a spot in the regional, I believe that the regional in Fargo will be played on Friday/Saturday is that correct? If that is correct, what time would the latest game on Saturday be played? Trying to make travel plans around the regional in Fargo...

Look, my intent is not to throw anyone under the bus on this deal but instead to shoot down the inaccurate defending of our 'officials' as the Herald referred to them today. They played it safe and looked to just make a profit by playing at Orleans Arena. They underestimated the market big time for this game. 7500 seats sold out for this game before the general public and the opposing team had a chance to purchase; sold out 20 months in advance of the game! I am sure the Orleans Arena has never sold out 20 months in advance of an event. Not sure if I have ever heard of any event selling out 20 months in advance of an event. I know there are many UND fans that didn't get a chance to buy tickets for this event that are pissed and rightfully so. Just think how many MN fans will be irate as well! There are tons of MN alumni in the Vegas area that have no chance to attend the game as well as thousands of MN season ticket holders. Don't tell me that our arena or Minnesota's arena aren't always sold out either. That is very shallow thinking. This is an event, not just another game. This is a UND/MN Game in Vegas! Everyone loves Vegas and combine Vegas with hockey and you knew that it was an easy sell. In addition, there is no other major city in America easier to get to then Las Vegas. Our 'officials' played it safe and narrow minded and the left a lot of opportunity on the table. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in more revenue could have and should have been hauled in by our university. This in light of the budget cuts our University faces once again. Those that have the right to be pissed by this lost opportunity should also include those that are affiliated with those sports that again are on the chopping block!- 860 replies

Wednesday, March 30, 2011 The Price Of A Concert: Breaking Down Where The Money Goes How on Earth can these performers justify their $100 - $250 ticket price? Venue Most venues are paid up front, and they get paid whether the concert is successful or not. The average cost to rent an arena is around $20,000/night while the average cost to rent an amphitheater is around $10,000/night. Smaller clubs cost less, but their capacity is also less. If they could get what Southpaw thinks they could to rent it for 4 hours, they would have the game same day as PBR! -

I was referring to Orleans arena not renting for $100,000+. And casinos off the strip are not full on any weekend. If you want to talk about renting T-Mobile...the extra 10,000 tickets sold at $80 equals $800,000 in lost revenue. Sure there are extra expenses involved in T-Mobile but if you can't agree that there is a lot of opportunity lost then I am sorry -

In your infinite wisdom please tell me why renting this building would be way more then $100,000? I can rent the Ralph for less then $200 an hour and it is bigger. Granted that doesn't include ushers and other employees but lets do the math...for $100,000 you can employ 2500 people for 4 hours at $10/hour. I don't think there will be that many staff needed! Also, lets consider that this arena is attached to a hotel, a hotel that they are booking rooms for with this game. Oh, lets also remember this place has casino...a casino that the 7500 in attendance may gamble in. Good thing you are not negotiating this deal...they should comp this arena to UND, not charge them $100,000 + (which they most certainly are not) I love these non business folks that just throw out these obsurd numbers without doing the math or thinking in a business manner! -

I bought six, not sure if I need all 6 since it is 20 MONTHS FROM NOW, but I have had 30 requests already form those who didn't get tickets, all UND fans. As I said, this will be the hottest, and most expensive ticket in UND history. MN fans basically have 0 tickets for this game...200 tickets for parents and administration alone. Tickets will be going for over $1000 during the weeks before the game -

The UND administration underestimated the presale to Champion Club members. They didn't think the game would sell out in a 7500 seat arena. Appearantly they never heard that history is a great predictor of the future. -

C'mon, think about it...7500 tickets sold vs 20,000 tickets sold at $80 each before fees...unless the costs were over $1,000,000 the numbers don't add up. And that is just ticket revenue...doesn't include merchandising, concessions, beer, and parking revenue...UND administration blew it by being conservative. They don't know there own market. For those of you thinking of buying on the secondary market...you are right everyone has a price but with MN only getting 200 tickets, what do you think their big wigs will pay for a ticket? -
North Dakota vs. Minnesota in Las Vegas - October 2018

No tickets will be available on the secondary market as they all went in the presale to UND champions club members -

There was only 150 left for sale. UND administration thought small and didn't get the NHL arena. This will be the hardest ticket in UND history. Could have easily sold 20,000 tickets. 15,000+ to UND and 5,000+ to MN. Lost opportunity...shame on them for thinking small. MN only has 200 seats for this game! -
OMG Fran, get over yourself, you whining, sniveling, little pansy! Way to throw a hissy fit and cry over spilled milk. Good grief...you really rose above the fray Fran and showed you were the bigger man! Your players were embarrassed and rightfully so; you looked like a spoiled little brat! I'm guessing you were the first one to run to the teacher on the playground when you were picked on as a kid?
