Nice local option? Naw, kid has some raw strength and talent. State wrestling champ at 195 and a solid two way player in football. Will probably line up on the defensive side of the ball (inside /outside LB). EDIT* His Aunt was a STAND OUT BBALL player for UND in the late 90's/early 2000's.
-
I don't know much about BEK but to me it seems like a step back if they did.
-
You could say that about almost any school that won titles (I know LSSU won in the late 80's/90's) before the 80's. Not many schools offered hockey as a school sponsored sport. Where do you draw the line? The fact of the matter if you look at the last 20 years; Duluth, Denver and Boston College have been the elite hockey schools in college hockey.
-
The fact that you won't put Duluth in as an elite program is flawed.
-
What are you playing for then? You think the players at Alabama don't feel pressure? What about NDSU?
-
I feel like you are correct. Majority of our fanbase was content on winning a natty in 2016 and now have the "wait till next year" attitude after they fail to make the national tourney or bow out after the 1st game. At least we have the "best arena/amenities" than any other program!
-
I noticed it last year too but it looks like he is declining at a very high rate. As much as people give him grief for calling the games, you never want to see something like that happen to a person. ESPN should do the right thing and relieve him after this year. No one should be paraded on national TV when they are clearly not well.
-
Idk if this was covered in past pages but has anyone hear if Melrose is sick? He looks and sounds really rough, almost like he has Parkinson's.
-
He had been a healthy scratch for a while in Detroit and lost his spot when they picked up Olli Juolevi, so there is no need to take him. Also, Seattle is playing the short game with low cost contracts. They are building up a minor league team with a TON of draft picks and they have close to $50 million in cap space for next year.

Why? Just because Hakstol is the coach

Did I ever say we were a mid-major? No. Did I say that school are catching up to us in recruiting and facilities, yes. You people talk about how we can sit on the REA and use that as our recruiting and I am telling you no we can't. Because if that were the case we would be getting all the Blue Chippers and we aren't, other schools are finally catching up to us. Do other other school have the same tradition as us? No but using our tradition isn't helping us. Hell Michigan has more national titles than us and they have great tradition too but they are not producing either. The kids have changed the way they play and what they are looking for in programs. It's fine if you want to sit and talk about how great the REA is (it is a fine facility) but I am willing to bet that it's not the number one reason why kids choose a school any longer.
-
I never once said they were superior, so stop with that nonsense. Also, you said "nice looking" which means you have never been to them. The REA duals as a multi sports arena also, so stop with that non-sense about it being dual. Yes, the REA might be bigger but that if that is all you're trying to sell someone on, please. They have just as nice as a locker room, nice weight room, nice athletic training rooms, nice lunch/study/break room as the Ralph does. You also keep bringing up the size of the REA but it sure is empty and also look empty a lot of nights when all the fans are sitting in the concourse or in the bar on each side.
-
well played sir!
-
you can disagree with me all you want but the fact still holds true. you might not like them personally (because you probably haven't been to them) but they have caught up with UND when it comes to things players look for. Big deal the REA has granite countertop/flooring or that they have cherry wood seats. I am in no way saying the REA is a dump but take your blinders off and head to some of these other places and you will see they are very excellent places and you can see why kids would want to go there.
-
I have explained it. Let me do it again. People say we can recruit the best because of our arena and history. Well guess what, that time has passed us. Again, arena's have caught up to UND. Those schools that you mentioned have done more by finding the right players for their program and I hate to say it but they have the correct coach for their program too. I know Berry would be snatched up by lots of other schools in a heartbeat but basically going 1-3 in NCAA play (not counting his first year) and missing out on the NCAA 2 CONSECUTIVE years, doesn't cut it. You think the folks at Alabama would allow that to happen?

Ed Robson Arena Pegula Ice Arena Kohl Center Mayo Clinic Health Systems Event Center Value City Arena Baxter Arena Amsoil Arena Arizona State University's (will be super nice once completed)
-
You are also thinking hockey players from the early days are the same ones playing today. Kid's these days have a way different mindset then the Hrkac's, Belfour's, Johnson's and Blake's of the world.

I do donate each year but unlike some people I don't dictate who gets my money. Also, I never said our amenities were trash, I just said there are some programs that have finally caught up to UND and some may have passed. They are still top notch, just not #1 like we think. Television, I would love to donate if it meant a deal for all our programs to get more national exposer. However the question was what is needed and I simply responded to the question.
-
Yes we just updated a locker room that was 20+ years old. New arenas are getting built or have been built long after the REA was built or refinished.
-
Yes.
-
I honestly think a better national TV package would benefit us more. Stop with this NCHC package BS, put us on National coverage each week.
-
I could think of a few. Possibly a better coach, better exposer, Ann Arbor is much nicer than Grand Forks.
-
A lot of programs have the same or even better amenities than the REA. Using the example of the REA has a huge recruiting tool has lost its luster, it's a really nice facility but no one is playing in a 50's cattle barn any longer.
-
best fanbase is subjective to you. Some schools have excellent fanbases themselves. travel unbelievable well? again our fanbase travels well to "destination" games but a lot go missing when it comes time to go see a regular season game. Best facilities? A lot of schools have caught up to the Ralph. Are they big like the REA, probably not but everything else is just as top notch. No one is playing in an outdated arena any longer. 8 national championships is nice but how many have been won in the past 22 years? I'll give you league championships but making it to the national tournament and failing does not bode well. A lot of other schools have a history or producing high end talent too. Minnesota, Denver, St. Cloud, Boston College, Boston University, Wisconsin, Duluth all produce high end talent. Hell, Michigan has darn near 2 lines of 1st round draft picks playing for them.
-
What advantages do we have over other school in recruiting? Most schools nowadays have just as good (or on the same level) arena/training facilities as UND.
