I would agree that it is self-inflected but only to a point. Bubba is a good person to have when we need to raise funds for projects because he is all on board with what UND is trying to do (name change, new buildings, etc) His type of football however is no longer sufficient in the Missouri Valley/D1AA. UND needs to pay its football coaches a little bit more to attract that type of coach that is going to take us to the next level.

You and him are taking my post out of context. I said that NDSU has one contender and UND could potentially have 2 sports be contenders if they were smart. Name me one other sports that NDSU can say they will be contenders in? Our men's and women's teams basketball teams and volleyball team have made the NCAA tournaments too but I definitely wouldn't be calling them contenders

You are correct, they had to emphasize hockey but what is forgotten is with that money comes a responsibility to produce championships. They can talk about tradition, culture and everything else all they want but when you don't produce its a huge drag on other programs that can be promoted.

You are not wrong but NDSU is doing the same thing but with football as they have put all there eggs in one basket (football) because thats all they really have. UND is in a unique spot where they could have two big programs be contenders each year (hockey and football). I hate to say this but to me the hockey program isn't set up by the athletic department, its set up and directed by the Engelstad foundation/REA.

The ones you are referring to about Coach Walsh were in fact replica jerseys. There was no way to get on ice jerseys done as those jerseys were done last min and were screen printed numbers. It's kind of like the ones UND wore in 2003 to recognize our military services, they just took a bunch of off the rack replicas, sewed on numbers and military patches and used them in a game.

You are incorrect. Replica jersey do in fact come in numbered sizes and sometimes have a fight strap on them but that doesnt make them the same as the on ice jerseys. If you look at the tag and it says "made in Indonesia" or other foreign country, it is in fact a replica. The on ice jerseys that the team wears will say "made in Canada" on the tag.

You are the one moving the goalpost to fit your tiny ego. As I and many others have explained to you before ALL SPORTS AT UND ARE D1. We all know that football isn't at the top of D1 but it also isn't considered D2 because the NCAA has a classification for D2 and UND is not in it. Why is it so hard for you to comprehend it? I bet your sole purpose of this argument is to degrade NDSU's success in football and it also comes at our schools expense.

You can still use your crayon reference all you want but the fact of the matter is you are wrong. By NCAA classification UND is D1 in all sports, even football. This cannot be disputed, no matter how big your crayon is. You are just being ignorant at this point because I cannot imagine someone being this stupid.

Here is a thought. Does UND let Bubba coach another year or two and then bring Schmidt back? He will have a pretty good resume as an assistant coach (and he knows how to recruit) at the FBS level and UND would be his first HC gig, so he shouldn't command a whole lot.

2 seasons of head coaching at an AAC school is a HUUUUUGE stretch for a P5 program. The only reason he got that is due to him being an alum and the fact that Nebraska looked the other way on all his other flaws. If UND wants to make a coaching change and they want to make a splash, they will need to pony up some money and/or they will need to find that GEM that is hiding at a D2 level AKA Brian Kelly...

He went 6-7 his first year and then 13-0 his second year. You call that a good track record? Especially a good resume to jump into a P5 program?

outside of football what are they better at? It's really hard to say that NDSU football is bigger than UND hockey when the last few destination games for hockey have been sold out and the bars run out of beer.

Whenever NDSU is on national TV they always use the Fighting Hawks logo.
