  1. You missed a good show on Saturday night when we finally convinced the HOT HOT HOT bartender to get up on stage.
  2. Maybe you were there on Sunday night for Old Timer's Day, AZSIOUX!
  3. Why not the UND Prairie Knights? Apparently that is "non-hostile," "non-abusive," and a real source of pride for the Indian community.
  4. Sorry, I am playing in the USSSA Fall State softball tournament this weekend, otherwise I'd be in for this gig in a heartbeat. I'd probably even find a way to stop in Columbus and re-visit the now infamous Platinum Fox.
  5. I resent that statement. Governor Pawlenty signed into law legislation making us the People's Democratice Republic of Minnesota just last week. You hafta love the NCAA, don't you? We don't hear a peep about The Ohio State University and the Maurice Clarett situation anymore. Minnesota doesn't even have a banner recognizing their basketball Final Four team from a few years ago thanks to the scandal involving their coach and players having homework being completed for them. Florida State and Miami have a competition going as to who can recruit the most convicted felons for their programs. The University of Colorado has its hands full with a coach and football players who can't quite control themselves around attractive women. Until he was canned recently, Bob Huggins graduated what, like 1 player in the past 16 years from Cincinnati? But we brush those issues under the rug and get to an issue that needs real attention and immediate action: school logos.
  6. Does the ticket office accept checks?
  7. Interesting how times change...five years ago, Brian Gionta cried after BC lost to the Sioux in the NCAA title game. Last night, he pounced on the puck and grabbed it out of the net almost immediately after Parise scored. Byegones are byegones I guess.
  8. Well put, PCM. I agree. Finding common ground is what it's all about.
  9. Further proving that extremists on either side of the aisle are no good, Sioux-cia. However, I don't think conservatives alone are responsible for the slandering of the word "liberal". It would seem the extreme left wing of the Democratic Party has done a good job of that all by itself (Charlie Rangel, Ward Churchill, etc.).
  10. I couldn't disagree more. The NCAA would want to wipe out any evidence that that nickname and logo ever existed.
  11. I'm not referring to the regional. That contract was set in stone long before the long arm of the NCAA tried to re-do it. Obviously their attorneys concurred. I'm talking about if UND were to change the nickname from Fighting Sioux. What would make more sense, tearing down the REA and building a new Sioux logo-less arena or removing the Sioux logos from the existing arena? That should be obvious. It would be foolish to think that the name-change crowd would be happy with a new nickname, yet allow REA to keep ties to the past by not removing the existing logos everywhere from the campus, from t-shirts to gym floors to the hockey arena.
  12. One thing I do not like about the pro-nickname argument is the mention of how much it would cost to remove the logos from REA. Big deal. I'm sure it cost a lot of money to enforce integration in the south in the 1960's, too, but no one felt that it was too much money. The pro-name change forces should be eating that cost argument right up. Besides, if there is money for all the marble and granite in the place, I'm sure they could find some cash to remove some logos. It's a bad argument for keeping the logo.
  13. Pretty good article, PCM. You know one positive that might wind up coming out of the decision to put the screws to UND is that maybe some people will finally see the light and think that this is political correctness run amok. What's interesting is the obvious "huh?" when you look at two schools with similar issues and the NCAA reaches completely opposite conclusions: UND + large population of American Indian students + Fighting Sioux nickname = hostile and abusive UNC-Pembroke + large population of American Indian Students + Braves nickname = exemption
  14. Thank you for recognizing that. Funny that Conrad wouldn't criticize the NCAA or the pro-name change forces, but instead direct his first shot at a Republican governor.
