The Sioux were the #1 seed in 2000 when the tournament was in Wisconsin and the Badgers played the evening semi-final while UND played the afternoon semi-final. Yes, the rule has applied outside of the Xcel Energy Center, but only 1 Final Five in recent memory has been played outside of St Paul. That being said, it's time for the Minnesota rule to go. Funny that UMD won the Final Five last year, being the first play-in game winner to do so. However, had the Bulldogs had to play at 2:00 pm Friday instead of 7:00 pm Friday, my guess is they would have run out of gas.

I'll let you know where I'm sitting. I think there's a knowledgeable Gopher fan in my section.

Knowing the U of M, that comes out to $75 for the cost of the actual tickets...$125 for the cost of parking.

Minnesota Vikings News, Schedule, Players, Stats, Videos, and Brett Fa
MafiaMan replied to GF_siouxfan's topic in Community
Just so everyone's aware, since I took so much heat in the drama-filled thread about Favre's initial retirement from the Packers...I am not a Viking fan nor am I a Favre hater. I'm simply pointing out that people like DaveK continue to hero-worship guys like Brett Favre no matter what they do or don't do. Remember the ill-advised throw against the Giants a few years ago? DaveK gives Brett a flyer on that pick, which led to the Giants winning the NFC title. Yet here we are two years later and he's ready to lynch Aaron Rodgers over not completing a pass in OT and suggesting that Brett hits that throw 100 times out of 100. If #4 throws 5 TDs and 400 yards this weekend in a huge Vikings win, Packer fans will groan how they wish Brett was still in Green Bay and how he would have single-handedly defeated Arizona last weekend. However, if he throws for 150 yards and 4 INTs in a 34-17 loss to the Cowboys, I bet DaveK and other Packer backers will be surprisingly quiet or simply giddy that the Vikings lost, yet somehow blame the defense, poor coaching, the kicking game, or maybe the game-time temperature inside the Metrodome, rather than fault Brett Favre. -

Something Brett Favre has made a career out of doing...and how many times has the result been an ill-advised throw/interception? Plenty. To blame the loss on ONE PLAY is simply silly. If Brett Favre throws six interceptions this coming weekend, will DaveK still whine that he wishes #4 was still in Green Bay? -

Wow. I'm glad you're not my boss. The guy lights it up yesterday and is the QB behind a comeback almost worthy of Buffalo Bills/Houston Oilers legendary status...and you instead want to light him up over one missed completion. WOW. -
Scores are not officially kept at the mites level but the kids certainly know who won or lost... 1/3/09 I believe 7 or 8 to 2 win over Jefferson white 1/9/09 5-4 win over Burnsville

Nice win for the Sioux women. Congrats.

I had heard that there would be a free 12 oz given out to all fans when the team scores more than 11 points in a half.

Sioux/Gopher Tickets Jan 16th- 4 SRO for sale
MafiaMan replied to FargoHockeykh's topic in Tickets wanted / for sale
Might be interested...what's the price per ticket? I can't believe no one has jumped on these. -
How'd that "ammo" pan out tonight? Nothing against Cincy, but these small conference teams are still living off of Boise State/Oklahoma and Utah/Alabama. What's more the norm is what happened with Georgia/Hawaii and tonight with Florida vs Cincinnati. Blowout city.
-
Trust me, I didn't. Yea, the past decade really had some entertaining Sioux and Gopher moments, didn't it? 2000, 2002, and 2003 don't seem that far away...but they sure are!

I swear it to be the absolute truth.

Thanks, sagard, for reminding me of some of the darkest days in hockey history...

So if the US wins World Junior gold, will DaveK be, for the first time in his life, proud to be an American?
-
C'mon, let's not be overly dramatic, DaveK. Americans are saturated with Major League Baseball, the NFL, NBA, Nascar, NCAA sports, and the NHL. On any given winter Sunday in New York, it's quite possible to have the Knicks, Jets, Giants, Rangers and Islanders all playing. Most major US cities have at least 3 of the 4 major sports in their community. Canadian cities have one (unless you count the CFL as a major sport, and I suppose you could make that argument), with the exception of Toronto, which obviously has the NBA and MLB in addition to the NHL. I can certainly forgive American "ignorance" in not realizing that the World Junior Hockey Tournament is going on somewhere in Canada. Like it or not, hockey is a niche market in the United States, not the national sport. However, to back up your point, I do have a funny story from the World Cup of Hockey held in 2004. The tournament included several games held at the Xcel Energy Center in September of that year, including Russia vs the USA. It was heavily promoted in the local media and the build-up of this as a huge match-up was fairly impressive. On our way to the hockey rink, my buddy and I were stopped by some pedestrians on the street given the following greeting: "Who do the Wild play tonight? I didn't know the NHL had started already!".

I'm looking to put numbers on my 1958-1964 home jersey and need some help. The letters S I O U X are 4 7/8" in size. Was the number on the left chest at that time the same size? In photos I have, it appears that they are the same size as the letters, however, most left chest numbers, C and A's, etc., are 4" in size. Also, any idea about the number on back? And although I don't have pics...I'm also curious about the 1964-1971 style jerseys. Same question...4" or almost 5" numbers on the front? The historic photos I have seem to indicate a "chunky block" style number that seems too big to be 4". I appreciate any help!

Not that I agree or disagree with your opinion, but I laughed out loud when I saw the mis-spelling of 'genius.'
-
Right now, I just have a pic of MafiaMan Jr's jersey on my cell phone. PM me with your cell number or e-mail address and I can forward it to you.

This was second-hand information relayed to me, but the person apparently thought that SiouxSports.com is affiliated with UND itself.
-
Mites jerseys were handed out to the kids today at BIG. Apparently a Gopher fan contacted someone affiliated with the University of Minnesota and asked about a Gopher-sponsored team to counter the Intermediate Gold SiouxSports.com team. Maybe gopherz, sagard, or some of the other regulars of GopherPuckLive.com should do something about that...

Update: Kennedy jersey was hand-delivered to me five minutes ago by one of the head coaches. PM me with your cell phone number if you would like me to send you a picture of the back of the jersey. When I have more time, I'll post pictures here or on Facebook. Thanks again to all who made this happen!

I just received a package from the USPS and have gotten my first glimpse of the 1958-1964 home white jersey, the 1964-1971 home white jersey, and the 1964-1971 away green jersey. All I can say to AZSIOUX is "OUTSTANDING!". These jerseys are absolutely fabulous and I'm considering getting a few more. I'd strongly suggest you buy an old-school jersey from AZSIOUX before they're gone for good. Footnote: Portions of this program were paid for by AZSIOUX.
