It's not an absolute and every underdog has his day (or almost has his day). What was the average margin of victory by the Bison in the playoffs last season? I know it's only a week (or two for some) into the season, but from what I've seen of EWU, their defense couldn't stop Eden Prairie High School's offense. And they're supposed to be upper-echelon FCS?
-
Actually it was relevant because it shows that the state of FCS isn't all that good. A lot of quality FCS teams have moved up already - the #9 team in FBS would most certainly give the #1 team a game. Not-so-much it seems in FCS. And now I'm an antagonist? Why, because I don't toe the official party line with regards to the state of UND football?

I know PLENTY about college football as I pay almost zero attention to the NFL but am glued to the TV every Saturday. What's funny about your nasty retort to my post is that lots of folks here consider me a Bison sympathizer or some sort of Sioux Football Benedict Arnold. All I'm saying is that there is a big Big BIG difference between beating Iowa State and going to-to-toe with Michigan State. And, yes, the Cyclones would roll UND...

Just wanted to be sure Alzheimer's wasn't kicking in. This is the part where Shawn-O jumps in and asks me what Bison jersey I'm wearing for the next game...
-
So Jacksonville State is the #9 ranked team in FCS...and Michigan State could have hung 100 up on them pretty easily had they wanted to. NDSU wouldn't keep a game with Sparty within 35.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at the time of NDSU's big announcement, wasn't UND's company line "we're happy where we are at now in D-2"?

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=090925/aunese I thought this was an interesting story for those of us who remember the glory days of Colorado football...

Hmnnn...rabid...suggesting "fierce" and chimpmunks, a new sort of hybrid offspring of a chimpanzee and a chipmunk. I'd have to see a logo sketch first, but I'm intrigued so far...

No chance that happens due to obvious issues with branding and women's athletics. There won't be such a thing as Norsemen and Norsewomen or Lady Norsemen, sorry.

Awwww shucks...thanks, geaux_sioux.

Hey-ooooooooh!

Talk about some bad luck. All for making a few bucks as a punching bag for a FBS school, especially USD.

Soooo glad I could sleep easy after that game yesterday (yes, I'm a Wolverine football fan and have been since I was about 6 years old). I think I barfed after Michigan lost to App State in 2007.

The hockey team loses 2 in a row in October and the fans go nuts about Hakstol. Midway thru last football season, some folks here STILL wanted to wait and see how the season played out with Muss. I don't get it... Fire alarms should have been going off after the home loss to Sioux Falls. After a 15-13 victory in the rematch, it should have been a four-alarm blaze.

How is the patience at Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Minnesota, North Carolina, Kansas, Boston College, and Virginia these days? This most certainly isn't going to be a one or two season fix-it process. It could take years... Two schools I can think of who have had their perceptions reversed completely in the past 25-30 years: Colorado and Wisconsin. Colorado was 1-10 in 1984. Starting in 1985 and lasting thru about 2005, the Buffaloes enjoyed a pretty good run of success, highlighted by the early 1990's period of excellence. The bottom has since fallen out and they are now on their 3rd new head coach since Gary Barnett was fired in December 2005. They opened up yesterday with a 2-TD loss to Colorado State. From 1964-1989, Wisconsin football was the textbook definition of "doormat." In St Alvarez's first year, 1990, the Badgers went 1-10. By 1999, Wisconsin was a 3-time Rose Bowl champion and is pretty much synonymous with the words "powerhouse program" today. They've come a long ways since Don Morton's rising-out-of-a-coffin "I'm not dead yet" TV commercial (a bizarre advertisement for season tickets) in the early '80's.

http://nativeappropriations.com/2013/01/new-billboard-for-florida-states-mba-program.html/fsu-mba Granted, this article was from a while ago..."war paint"? Really? It'll be interesting indeed to see if the OSU story gets the attention that certain t-shirts in North Dakota did this past spring...

Did anyone see the "Send 'em home" and "#trail_of_tears" sign some OSU fans had on GameDay? The official OSU Twitter folks "favorited" the picture, then "unfavorited" it later saying they didn't see the hashtag reference. My guess the intern running the Twitter account had no idea what the Trail of Tears was until someone explained it to him or her. http://m.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/osusportsextra/blog/osu-sports-trail-of-tears-sign-at-espn-college-gameday/article_fb90b9ae-a265-5942-9911-ab9051463d28.html The NCAA...it's only a racist nickname if it's Fighting Sioux.

Unable to post a link from my PC but SI.com has a short story about a Twitter pic a bunch of OSU fans took along with their "Send 'em home" sign. Beneath that was the witty hashtag #trail_of_tears". The official OSU Twitter account "favorited" the photo, then "unfavorited" it later saying they had "missed" the hashtag (which was clearly visible in big letters. This whole selective racism that is approved by the NCAA is beyond ridiculous.
