  1. Didn't make the cut for beginner mites in Carrington, ND in the 1970's? OUCH!
  2. I'm looking for members of the board who might be interested in an outdoor broomball game against some of the folks over at GPL. The game would be held in Roseville MN on (likely) a Saturday in early February. Male and female players needed. I don't have any other details available at the moment but am looking for 8-11 players in order to have enough. Must be a poster on the board to participate (or at least registered on the board). No skill level will be turned away so broomball novices, don't be nervous about accepting the challenge.
  3. If this was a LGBTQ protest interrupted by you calling someone a "Fudge Packer"... You know what? Nevermind.
  4. WHAT? No more Bowbells Eskimos and now THIS? I suppose you'll be telling me next that the Woodworth-Pettibone-Robinson Wolfpack and the Grenora Gophers are gone as well.
  5. Yes it was! Man, what an incredible boys basketball team in the 1980's too. Great nickname. Not to be outdone though by the nickname of the school that beat them in the 1986 Region 8 title game: Bantams.
  6. "...I made a good decision to go and play NCAA hockey." Yea, all 9 games of it.
  7. Wasn't goaltending on this team considered a STRENGTH not all that long ago?
  8. Protesters were on the news two nights ago pleading with the Bloomington city attorney to not prosecute the MOA folks and to "put people before corporate profits." She should tell that to the store clerks making $8 or $9 an hour who had to be sent home with no pay because their store had to be closed because of those protesters! As for the "public funding" theory that supposedly means you can do whatever you want because it's not a 100% privately-built building, I challenge you to jump onto Target Field during a ballgame this summer and see how well that goes over.
  9. Yup! I think it was on a Friday night in 1988 or 1989 when the Maroon Loon wiped out and the rope and triangle went flying in front of the zamboni. The driver didn't see it (fans were screaming "STOP!") and ran it over. The zamboni made a growling sound and screeched to a halt. Rope shredded, plastic triangle in a million pieces, zamboni broken. Saturday night, the loon was in the stands roaming around - he wasn't allowed on the ice.
  10. I still can't believe that Barry Melrose pencilled Minnesota into the Stanley Cup Finals the moment they signed Parise and Suter. A couple of seasons later and it sure looks like this team is a mess. Parise was much closer to getting a cup with the Devils than he's been since he arrived in St Paul.

May God bless the souls of the two victims and provide comfort to their families. May he also help those injured recover quickly - physically and mentally. What a horrible tragedy.
  12. Just a bit stunned that such a big fan of the political party that prides itself on diversity and tolerance would use such a slur, that's all.
  13. On the game-winning drive, the Lions were called for what, was it THREE penalties? And now the NFL admits that Suh was held on a key 4th and 6 which would have resulted in a 4th and 16? Wow, just wow. I've cracked the code. Roger Staubach and Tom Landry were the shooters on the grassy knoll.
  14. I see. So any player who wants to can run from the sidelines onto the field for a quick conversation with the ref about a penalty now? D'okay!
  15. Fedorov, if you run into NDH this weekend, don't forget to ask him about the golden days of yore when Bob May was a wee mite hockey player in the youth program. NDH sat little Bob down on his lap after practice one day and told him "son, someday you'd make a great coach at the University of North Dakota. Maybe even win their first championship." True story.
  16. I had a hunch you weren't a SN...always liked you DTD's when I was on campus...my house was a little further east of there.
  17. Imagine the outrage across America today had the team roles been reversed and a certain Lion whose last name is Suh pulled that stunt...
  18. Doesn't Sigma Nu still provide free limo service to and from the rink for its alumni?
  19. Canada in full-out meltdown mode now!
  20. They will be a formidable opponent for sure...
  21. I concur on UMD possibly being the best team UND has faced all season long thus far...but a Gopher fan jumping in to predict a sweep is pretty hilarious. Given a home 3-2 loss to Merrimack and a 3-2 OT win against RIT, I think our friends to the east have bigger things to worry about than UND's opponent this coming weekend.
  22. Got any other gut-busters, shortbusguy?
  23. How do you miss a guy with no helmet on sprinting onto the field to chew you out over a flag that has been thrown though?
  24. The NHL retired #99 league-wide despite Wayne Gretzky having played with just Edmonton, Los Angeles, St Louis, and the NY Rangers...MLB has retired the #42 league-wide in honor of Dodger-only Jackie Robinson..the Miami Heat retired #23 in honor of Michael Jordan (dumbest idea ever)...the Seattle Seahawks retired #12 in honor of their fans 30 years ago...the Minnesota Wild retired jersey #1 in honor of their fans as well, I believe on opening night of the franchise... Calgary honored George Pelawa by setting up a 20 year scholarship fund in his memory. When funds ran out, Pelawa's parents continued the scholarship with their own money. Somehow officials with the Flames organization heard about this and efforts were made to continue the scholarship with help from the Flames and private donations. Honestly, I couldn't think of a greater tribute than for UND to announce that George Pelawa will also be also be remembered forever along with Terry Casey by the #12. What could have been...a terrible tragedy.
