  1. Any chance of a forum for buying, selling, or trading items?
  2. There's a difference between "balding" and "completely bald." I'm probably safe on this one.
  3. Obviously trying to cover their tracks...what's that, TEN missed penalties in a key playoff game? If this crew is so inept, I can only assume they won't be working this weekend's games, right?
  4. You've mentioned this several times now...who exactly is waving the pom-poms?
  5. Really? Great nickname!
  6. Page Panthers
  7. Arnegard Spuds...1961 state boys' C basketball champions...school closed in 1963.
  8. Someone around here has to know where we can find a copy of "Almanac of North Dakota Sports." I wish I had a copy.
  9. Kramer Bulldogs...Maxbass Mustangs... I believe the Newburg Eagles of 1986 were officially the "Kramer-Maxbass-Newburg Eagles" by then... Max Cossacks - great nickname.
  10. Strasburg Clippers...Hurdsfield Stags...Forman Phantoms...Tuttle Trojans...Pettibone Warriors... Woodworth and Robinson have been closed for a long time now. I had friends who graduated in a class of FIVE in 1988 from Robinson High School. They were already known then as the W-P-R (Woodworth-Pettibone-Robinson) Wolfpack. I don't know what nicknames Robinson and Woodworth had prior to then.
  11. Also on my wish list: Toto and Men at Work getting the bands back together and recording new albums!
  12. http://www.northdakotapreps.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4945 This was very helpful...and interesting. Third post from the top - Karlsruhe Tigers. School apparently closed around 1986. The Tigers made the 1985 tournament.
  13. Towner, Velva, Drake, Anamoose...other towns in McHenry County ND. Still can't find any information on Karlsruhe...
  14. I don't know who Scott Gulseth is, but if he was as good as Scott Guldseth from Edinburg, he must have been one heckofa player!
  15. http://activities.educ8.org/archived/basketball/2003/state_b_boys/program/pdf/pg6-7.pdf Check this out from 1978! Belfield's Mike Altenburg with 33 points against the New Rockford Rockets, 29 against the New Town Eagles, and 23 in a 72-57 title game loss to Larimore.
  16. Bell played for Halliday, correct. Belfield basketba at that time revolved around the Altenburg brothers, Mike, Ron, and Steve, if memory serves me right. Was your Ed Beyer story about the 1978 game or 1979? Belfield got waxed pretty good by the Polar Bears in '78.
  17. Godspeed, JP.
  18. Really? They were in the 1984-1985 state tournament. I found that they lost to the Hazen Bison in the 3rd place game. Town population hovered around 150 in those days. I actually remember that name in the state tournament - Epping 2.0?
  19. Couldn't have been Halliday in 1978 - the Wolverines lost the 1979 title game to Sargent Central. In 1978, the Larimore Polar Bears defeated the Belfield Bantams in the state championship game. Halliday wasn't even in the 1978 tournament - Region 7 was represented by the New Town Eagles.
  20. Bowman, Hettinger, Scranton, Rhame, and Reeder in that SW corner...the Reeder Rockets had a great team in the early 1990's too. They closed the school after the 2nd of the back-to-back state tournament appearances. Also saw Anamoose and Medina making appearances in that time. Edmore...Kindred (Komets?), Munich (Magicians?), Karlsruhe (?) and Steele before it became the Steele-Dawson Pirates. Don't know what Steele and Dawson were separately before the merger. Also, the Almont Eagles were around before they became the New Salem-Almont Holsteins.
  21. Wouldn't that be awesome?
  22. My earliest memory of watching the tournament was 1979 with the Halliday Wolverines squaring off against the Sargent Central Cadets in the title game. Also saw the Hettinger Black Devils and that great 1983 team - Bill Butterfield and Teddy Uecker became legends in that tournament. Trying to think of other great teams and nicknames from that era... McVille...can't recall tournament year or nickname. Grenora Gophers...I think finished 3rd one year...remember a big guy with glasses getting a dunk in a game. Starkweather Storm Kings - awesome nickname. Center Wildcats - Brad Johnson was an absolute beast in 1987 or 1988 as they faced off against Glen Ullin in the regional title game (they were from the same district). Just could not beat the Rattlers though. Vague memories of a Region 8 tournament where Richardton and Taylor were both playing - but not as a combined team. Taylor was the Redbirds and Richardton was the Rebels (another great nickname). That had to have beem late 1970's as well. Ate at Godfather's Pizza in Dickinson when the game was over. Yum.
  23. Belfield had lost to South Heart I believe 3 times that season. New England had beaten Belfield already that season as well (I think 2 times) and upset the Bantams in the District 29 semi-final game. The Bantams had to rely on the Tigers to take down the Eagles of South Heart in the championship game. New England had lost 2 times to SHHS - by 10 points or more both times. You know the rest - Shawn Flaherty coaches the Tigers to the District 29 title - after being picked in the pre-season poll to finish LAST - and Belfield beats South Heart two nights later in the Challenge Game. By 30.
  24. Having personally witnessed them during that time-frame, I'd concur. That 1985-1986 GU team was a juggernaut. Coach Jim Schroeder of Belfield was starting 4 seniors and 1 junior that season. Sometime in the middle of the year he replaced one of the seniors with junior big man Steve "Cheese" Burger. Gutsy move - but it worked. Some great players on that Belfield team - shooting guard James Gawryluk, point guard Jimmy Grosulak, and forward Mike Shypkoski, to name a few. Gawryluk was the Region 8 title game hero, picking off a Rich Quintus pass and taking it down the court for a layup and a two-point lead late in the game.
  25. BHS had lost to New England four times that season - and watched Glen Ullin absolutely demolish the Tigers by I believe 40 in the semi-finals. Jeff Meissner missed a half-court shot at the buzzer (off the back of the iron - 2" shorter and it would have been a 3-point swish for the victory). Glen Ullin instead lost its 1st game of the season. I've never seen a team and half of a gym vacate the premises so fast. The fans were absolutely stunned. Also of interest: Q) How did Belfield even get into the Region 8 tournament that year? A) The District 29 "Challenge Game."
