  1. You can't really call out A-Roid and cheer on Santana, can you? Ervin adamantly denies "knowingly" taking Stanozol and still claims he hasn't the foggiest idea how it got into his system? C'mon...
  2. Gopher fan friends of mine licking their chops over being able to ridicule "Sundogs" or even better, throw condoms on the ice if the selection is "Roughriders." I'd imagine Bison fans would love Roughriders as well for football, volleyball, and basketball games.

    Jerseys

Not a jersey, but if you're interested in hockey sticks, I have one used by Joe Finley that I'm looking to part with.
  4. In this day and age of hyper-sensitivity and over-apologizing for anything and everything, I'm sorry, but I disagree. Kelley and company will want to avoid ANY potential nickname controversy. "Well, Roughriders and Sundogs were our final two choices - but given TR's comments on Indians, the final selection was actually quite clear. The new nickname 'Sundogs' will epitomize the true spirit of diversity and abstract vision for the future that we, as the University of North Dakota..."
  5. It's just a matter of time before the '9 out of 10 Indians' quote comes to the forefront of discussion of that possible choice - before it is quickly eliminated.
  6. It's sad that most fans just seem resigned to their fate now. The theme seems to be "go ahead and pick ANYTHING, Mr President, I'll cheer for UND no matter what." Which is EXACTLY why that small feel-good band of BRIDGES folks will rejoice when the school completes the total capitulation from the hostile and abusive Fighting Sioux nickname to the trailblazing all-inclusive Sundogs. Hail academia!
  7. Does the popular "hot dago" sandwich served all over the Twin Cities make the word "dago" any less derogatory to an Italian from New York or Boston? NoDak = someone from North Dakota. Wouldn't folks already be aware of where the school is from given the "North Dakota" in front of the nickname?
  8. As long as the vocal minority celebrates the selection of "Sundogs," he won't care. After all, like any good academia nut, he himself knows what is best for the common folk.
  9. Sundogs, Fighting Hawks, North Stars, and Nodaks. That $80-$100K nickname & marketing consultant sure did a bang-up job on this project.
  10. University of Minnesota - Grand Forks North Stars. UMGF North Stars. Kinda catchy.
  11. Whoa whoa whoa...you mean I don't have to wait a day or two to read the scores in the paper? Mind = blown.
  12. I could almost live with the jerseys...but those pants? It looks like Sebastian the Ibis puked up leftover peas and carrots all over them.
  13. Sick, dope, and fire? Those are the hip new buzzwords today?
  14. So you're sayin' you favor gfhockey's "Big C*cks" nickname suggestion?
  15. "There's a lot more Knights gear these days than Redskins apparel at Grand Forks Central." Gee, Tom, ya think? What's it been, only a quarter of a century since the name was changed? Would you be equally surprised to wander around Los Angeles these days and not run into someone wearing an LA Raiders t-shirt?
  16. My point is that "generic" nicknames that you find boring are more than popular in lots of places - even in the SEC.
  17. Interesting comparison, because if Georgia, Mizzou, and LSU all decided tomorrow to get rid of their respective Bulldogs and Tigers nicknames, there would be rioting in the streets of Athens, Columbia, and Baton Rouge.
  18. So now it's mandatory that the flagship university in each state must use the official state nickname as its school nickname?
  19. #just_don't_get_the_appeal
  20. If I throw a rock across the St Croix River, it'll land in Minnesota. OK, not quite THAT close, but 15 minutes from Stillwater.
  21. Nothing, but how many more folks would yell "SIOUX" over the football, basketball, or hockey announcer when he/she says the word "Fighting"?
  22. Hmnnn...you had me hooked for a minute and then all of a sudden, you lost me. Just kidding, absolutely GREAT post, including the part I cut out. I'll offer up another tyoe of fan, though: one who spent 22 years as a born-and-raised native North Dakotan who just recently hit the tipping point of having now spent the majority of his life as a resident of somewhere else. To this day, when people ask me where I'm from, the answer is still "North Dakota...but I live in Wisconsin now."
  23. 1912: Of course it's true, I read it in the paper! 1944: Of course it's true, I heard it on the radio! 1980: Of course it's true, I saw it on TV! 2015: Of course it's true, I read it on Twitter!
  24. 90% of my posts are in the hockey forum...and I've disliked the idea of being just "North Dakota" from the start. And I'm not on Twitter.
  25. BREAKING NEWS: The University of North Dakota has announced its name change. From now on, the school will be known as the... ...University of North Dakota, Berkeley.
