Trust me when I say..EVERYBODY or at least 99.999% of everyone here wants the name and logo to stay. If there was a way to keep it and be off of sanctions I and everyone else would love to see that, but the reality is the NCAA already said they don't care about ND state law, and their policy still stands. That trip Al Carlson and others took to Indianapolis to meet with the NCAA was supposed to convince the NCAA to change their mind because of the state law. It didn't!! So now that UND's football team becomes playoff eligible this fall they could win their conference and still have to play all their playoff games on the road. They (UND) would be the home team but would be at NDSU, or at UNI, or at App State. Total disadvantage for our teams. The hockey team saw those sanctions when the NCAA said you guys show up in the tournament with any Sioux name or logo....you will have to forfeit. Was the NCAA bluffing? If they were then why did the UND team, band, etc. change uniforms. The sanctions are real and the only other team on sanctions is Alcorn State. They don't want to give up their Braves nickname. Just look at their team...towards the bottom of everything. Their glory days of McNair and Driver are gone because of sanctions. Those 2 NFL Superstars were drafted before the policy took place now the "Braves" are at the bottom of the SWAC. They go on the road as the A's not the Braves for any playoff game they are in. UND will have to do the same. Fighting Sioux at home and North Dakota "no nicknamers" on the road. Plus more teams are not scheduling UND just this year South Dakota State was added to the list. Which should alarm people because this isn't a major DI team this is a team in UND's backyard. What is next...NDSU, USD? What if certain conferences ban OOC play against UND like the Summit, or MVFC? The consequences are too great to take chances on this. Make it easy and vote YES on Measure 4 to retire the name.

Won't it? If UND goes to the NAIA...out goes the hockey program because the NAIA doesn't sponsor hockey. So to save "only" UND hockey the other sports must go to DII or DIII. Yeah thats not going to happen. UND is not going to be the Ferris State or Union of the hockey world. Unlike you there are people that care more than just hockey, they care about the school's other teams.

Which IMO should up the attendance quite a bit.

With Montana, MSU, Cal Poly we have some tough trees to chop down. It may take UND some time to get used to the BSC schedule, however our talent level IMO is better than last year especially if we have our QB situation under control.

Is that why there are 5,000 threads on BVille about UND and what about 5 on SDSU and maybe 3 on UNI. SDSU is not your rival.

Its the whole why they don't want to play the game. Is it because of the 2004 incident? If that is the case that is such bull$%!#. It still doesn't say how the tax that you pay now is going to be made up. Yes ND has a billion dollar surplus or whatever but that oil money won't last forever. I pay over 2400 bucks here in Fargo for property taxes and I would love not to pay that, but until there is something (some fund or some other revenue) that will take its place that will be enough to last at least for me another 30 years...then I have to vote NO.

In the most simplest terms...what does Measure #3 do?? I understand 1, 2, and 4. But 3..for religious freedom? Just what will be added or taken away if approved.

If and when UND gets a new nickname and logo....should UND get a mascot? A mascot could be fun for the kids plus it doesn't necessarily have to do with the team name like the Cleveland Indians mascot Slider and the old UND mascot...Thunder the Bleacher Creature (which I would love to see make a comeback!!)

Looking through my closet I do own a couple shirts that just says University of North Dakota with the ND logo. No Sioux name, no Indian logo. I wear it as proudly as I would if it did have the Sioux name and Indian logo on it. If the name goes...the school still survives.

No I am not implying that UND is better than the Montana's (USD yes we are better than them and proved it last year). I am implying NDSU (mainly Gene Taylor) wants nothing to do with UND when it comes to football. Sour grapes since 2004..thats my guess. But I think he saw what UND has done to NDSU's other sports (basketball, volleyball and baseball) where UND has won. I think he doesn't want UND to start beating NDSU at their #1 sport and take potential recruits away from NDSU. UND has owned NDSU from the mid to late 90's through 2003. UND has lost what 3 games to them since 1993 including playoffs. That has to hurt. It would be the same if NDSU got a hockey team and beat UND right away. It would sting like never before. So I think as long as GT is AD...this game is just another topic for the message boards.

I would still wear both Sioux and the UND whatevers gear. Kind of a mix and match. I cheer for North Dakota....no matter what the nickname is.

When I attended the NDSU-WIU game a few years back I thought it was hilarious here i was at a game watching the Bison play the Leathernecks and hearing Sioux suck by Bison fans (not a ton) but loud enough that I can here it plain as day across the dome. I am sure Leatherneck fans thought...what idiots they have here in Fargo chanting for a team that isn't even playing. I am sure Viking fans chant Packers suck when Minnesota plays Denver.

Holy crap I didn't think this thread I started would end up like this. I just saw the tv ad again. I hope it is getting the point of undecided voters. That is going to be the biggest problem. Should i vote to get rid of the name that I cheered for for many years? Or should I keep the name that I have cheered for for many years. You always have the ones who know how they will vote...YES to help UND athletics, NO to stick it to the NCAA. But the undecided ones who don't have much of a clue on the sanctions or even know who the NCAA is...thats going to be the biggest factor in the vote.
